Starter, Disassemble (Valeo)
Unbolt positive brush connection (1) from starter switch.
Unbolt nuts (2) for housing cover (3) and remove housing cover with carbon brush holder and rubber seal from starter.
Remove carbon brush holder from housing cover. Lever out thrust spring from carbon brush holder with screwdriver.
Note insulating plates.
Remove insulating plates (4) and carbon brushes (5) from carbon brush holder (6).
Unscrew bolts (1 and 2) from starter housing. Remove starter housing from starter.
Unscrew bolts (3) for starter switch and remove starter switch with spring from starter motor.
Remove shift lever axle (4) and remove shift lever with tension rod (5) from armature shaft.
Position starter vertically. Drive back thrust ring (1) on armature shaft with suitable sleeve.
Remove snap ring (2) from armature shaft.
Remove thrust ring (3) and free wheel (4) from armature shaft.
Support starter housing with suitable piece of pipe (5) and press bearing bushing out of starter housing with suitable drift (6).
New bearing bushing must be soaked in oil for at least 1/2 hour before installation.
