Ignition Module
The following engines, like the X 10 XE in the Corsa-B, are equipped with an ignition module (single spark ignition coils with integrated spark plug connectors).
| Engine | Engine management system |
|---|---|
| X 12 XE | Motronic M 1.5.5 |
| X 14 XE / X 16 XEL | Multec-S |
| X 18 XE1 | Simtec 70 |
| X 20 XEV | Simtec 70 |
In the ignition module, each cylinder is allocated one ignition coil and one ignition final stage, which are actuated by the engine control unit in the ignition sequence.
The firing angles for the individual cylinders are determined from the camshaft and crankshaft signals.
The ignition module with integrated spark plug connectors is located directly above the spark plugs.
The benefits of the ignition module are:
- No power loss in distribution
- Compact design
- Reduction in number of components
- Decreased electromagnetic interference
