| Complaint: | The battery was discharged / flat due to uncontrolled operation of the radiator cooling fan after extended parking periods(>1hour) with ambient temperatures of < 0° C and cars without A/C. |

| Cause: | At temperatures < 0° C the engine Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may in some cases trigger of the radiator cooling fan, this way causing the fan to run until the battery is discharged. |
| Production: | (ECU) with a manufacturing date before 12/97 and from 11/98 on are ok. |
Remedy:
In case of complaint as discribed above, identify the ECU.
Procedure: Relevant information for identification of the manufacturing date (1) and the Change number (2) are shown on the type plate of the engine Electronic Control Unit (see drawing). ECU with a manufacturing date before 772xxx and from 871xxx (11/98) on are OK.
In case the manufacturing date lies in the range shown above, the Electronic Control Units (ECU) has to replaced, see procedure - "Electronic Control Units, remove and install" of unit "J" in the Service-Instructions for Astra-G.
