- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 1 and the IAT sensor. Are the connections and terminals OK? YES - Go to step 2. NO - Repair the connectors or terminals, then go to step 15 .
- Remove the IAT sensor (see «IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S30760036372006022100000) ).
- Allow the IAT sensor to cool to ambient temperature.
- Note the ambient temperature.
- Connect IAT sensor to its 2P connector, but do not install it on the intake manifold.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Note the value of the IAT SENSOR quickly in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
- Compare the value of the IAT SENSOR and the ambient temperature. Does the value of the IAT SENSOR differ 5.4°F (3°C) or more? YES - Go to step 13 . NO - Go to step 9.
- Disconnect the IAT sensor from the 2P connector.
- Using a heat gun, blow hot air on the IAT sensor for a few seconds. Do not apply the heat longer than a few seconds or you will damage the sensor.
- Connect the IAT sensor to its 2P connector, but do not install it on the intake manifold.
- Check the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Does the IAT SENSOR change 58°F (32°C) or more? YES - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM. NO - Go to step 13.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the IAT sensor (see «IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S30760036372006022100000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0111 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.

- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Check the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is about 356°F (180°C) or more, or 0.08 V or less indicated? YES - Go to step 3. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the IAT sensor 2P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Check the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is about 356°F (180°C) or more, or 0.08 V or less indicated? YES - Go to step 7. NO - Go to step 11 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Check for continuity between IAT sensor 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the IAT sensor and the PCM (C26), then go to step 13 . NO - Go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the IAT sensor (see «IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S30760036372006022100000) ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0112 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM (see «PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220945-S16531944742006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0112 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. NO - If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S32339521312006022100000) ).

- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Check the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is about - 40°F (-40°C) or less, or 4.92 V or more indicated? YES - Go to step 3. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the IAT sensor and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the IAT sensor 2P connector.
- Connect IAT sensor 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Check the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is about -40°F (-40°C) or less, or 4.92 V or more indicated? YES - Go to step 8. NO - Go to step 20 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Remove the jumper wire.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between IAT sensor 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 12. NO - Go to step 16.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C14 and IAT sensor 2P connector terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 27. NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C14) and the IAT sensor, then go to step 22.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C26 and IAT sensor 2P connector terminal No. 1. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 27. NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C26) and the IAT sensor, then go to step 22.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the IAT sensor (see «IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S30760036372006022100000) ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?
