- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check TP SENSOR A in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is there about 0.3 V or less? YES - Go to step 4. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body and the PCM.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are DTC P0122 and P0222 indicated at the same time? YES - Go to step 10 . NO - Go to step 5.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the throttle body 6P connector.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (44P).
- Check for continuity between throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the throttle body and the PCM (B17), then go to step 18 . NO - Go to step 23 .
- Measure voltage between throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 16 . NO - Go to step 11.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (44P).
- Disconnect the throttle body 6P connector.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B19 and throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 23 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the throttle body and the PCM (B19), then go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-220953-S20883818412006022200000) ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0122 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM (see «PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220945-S16531944742006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P0122 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at TP sensor A and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO - If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S32339521312006022100000) ).

- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check TP SENSOR A in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is there about 4.8 V or more? YES - Go to step 4. NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body and the PCM.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are DTC P0123 and P0223 indicated at the same time? YES - Go to step 11 . NO - Go to step 5.
- Measure voltage between throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 16 . NO - Go to step 6.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (44P).
- Disconnect the throttle body 6P connector.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B17 and throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 1. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 23 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the throttle body and the PCM (B17), then go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the throttle body 6P connector.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B34 and throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 4. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 23 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the throttle body and the PCM (B34), then go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Replace the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-220953-S20883818412006022200000) ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.

- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

- Measure voltage between throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Go to step 16 . NO - Go to step 11.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (44P).
- Disconnect the throttle body 6P connector.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B19 and throttle body 6P connector terminal No. 2. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 23 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the throttle body and the PCM (B19), then go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.

- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.

- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P061F indicated? If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S32339521312006022100000) ). - Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Do the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the RELAY circuit OK? YES - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM. NO - Go to step 3 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Remove the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay (A) from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Test the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay (see «POWER RELAY TEST»(ref-220994-S33083793312006022200000) ). Is the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay OK? YES - Go to step 6 . NO - Replace the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 13 .
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A20 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the PCM (A20) and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 13 . NO - Go to step 9 .
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between PCM connector terminal C4 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the PCM (C4) and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 12 . NO - Go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P1658 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM, then go to step 19 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM (see «PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220945-S16531944742006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P1658 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM, then go to step 19 . - Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P1659 indicated? YES - Go to step 4 . NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Check the No. 3 DBW (15 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES - Go to step 6 . NO - Go to step 20 .
- Remove the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay (A) from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Test the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay (see «POWER RELAY TEST»(ref-220994-S33083793312006022200000) ). Is the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay OK? YES - Go to step 8 . NO - Replace the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 28 .
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Measure voltage between electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is the battery voltage? YES - Go to step 10 . NO - Repair open in the wire between PGM-FI main relay 1 (FI MAIN) and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 27 .
- Measure voltage between electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is the battery voltage? YES - Go to step 11 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the UNDER-HOOD FUSE/RELAY BOX, then go to step 27 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Connect electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay 4P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between the PCM connector terminal C4 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 16 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C4) and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 28 .
- Disconnect the jumper wire.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
- Connect electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay 4P connector terminal No. 4 to body ground with a jumper wire.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A20 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 33 . NO - Repair open in the wire between the PCM (A20) and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 28 .
- Remove the blown No. 3 DBW (15 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (44P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C4 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Go to step 24 . NO - Replace the No. 3 DBW (15 A) fuse, then go to step 28 .
- Remove the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay (A) from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C4 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM (C4), then go to step 28 . NO - Go to step 26 .
- Check for continuity between electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the No. 3 DBW (15 A) fuse and the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay, then go to step 28 . NO - Replace the No. 3 DBW (15 A) fuse, then go to step 28 .
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-220951-S17680691112006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P1659 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO - Troubleshooting is complete.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM (see «PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220945-S16531944742006022100000) ).
- Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P1659 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. NO - If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-220946-S32339521312006022100000) ).
APP Sensor Signal Inspection
Note. This procedure is to inspect the abnormalities of the APP sensor full closed position. Other failures than full closed position will store a DTC, therefore the steps to inspect them are not included in this procedure. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS before this procedure. If there are any DTCs indicated, troubleshoot them first, then do this procedure. Press the accelerator pedal several times, and check the operation. If it does not operate properly, check the accelerator pedal. If you find a problem, replace the accelerator pedal assembly (see ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).

- Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
- Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed and check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. If it is 0%, the APP sensor is OK. If it is not 0%, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM (see «PCM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING»(ref-220945-S16531944742006022100000) ), then go to the step 4.
- Make sure the accelerator pedal is not pressed and check the APP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. If it is 0%, the APP sensor is OK. If it is not 0%, replace the accelerator pedal assembly (see «ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-220953-S12746817652006022200000) ), then go to step 1 .
