Circuit Description
Input shaft speed sensor is a permanent magnet with a coil of wire wound around it. Sensor mounts in case cover facing reluctor wheel of input shaft. As reluctor wheel is driven by turbine shaft, an AC signal is induced in input speed sensor. Higher vehicle speeds induce a higher frequency and voltage at sensor. There is a fixed air gap between sensor and teeth on reluctor wheel. Sensor input is used by PCM to control line pressure, TCC apply and release and transaxle shift patterns. Sensor is also used to calculate appropriate gear ratios and TCC slippage. DTC P0716 indicates stuck, erratic or intermittent values, indicating poor performance of system. If PCM detects an unrealistically large change in data from sensor in a short period of time, DTC P0716 sets.
