AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Airbag adapter VAS 6281

DISCONNECTING

Bring seat into service position. Refer to FRONT SEATS SERVICE POSITION, SETTING .

Turn on the ignition.

Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Release side airbag connector -1- and disconnect it.

Connect Airbag Adapter VAS 6281 to side airbag connector on seat side -1-.

CONNECTING

Airbag connectors are connected in the following sequence, note the following

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

BACKREST RELEASE CABLE, ADJUSTING

The following prerequisites must be met to adjust

1. The backrest cover must be removed.
2. The upholstery must be removed from the backrest.

Note. The pins (release pins) -2- on both sides must be locked (delivery position, i.e. basic position).

Tilt the bracket -1- up so there is a distance -a- = 2 to 4 mm between the backrest frame stop surface -arrow A- and the bracket stop ridge -arrow B-.

Hold the bracket -1- in this position.

Note. The illustration does not show the side cable adjuster.

Adjust the left and right release cables -1- and -2- at the cable adjusters -arrows-.

Scheme 152

To adjust, rotate the upper section -arrow A- and lower section -arrow B- against each other.

Adjust the cables so they are free of play and tension.

Note. The illustration only shows one side of the retainer. When adjusting cables -1-, they must not be tensioned at release pins -2-.

After adjusting release cables, check function of backrest lock.

If it does not release or only releases partially, check the release cable routing or repeat the adjustment.

Installing the Front Seat on the Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136

1. Front seat removed from the vehicle.

Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.

FRONT SEATS SERVICE POSITION, SETTING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim removal wedge 3409

Service Position, Implementing

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move seat as far back and up as possible.

Note. For the sake of clarity, the figure does not show the surrounding area.

Standard Seat (Manual)

Pry the caps -1- from off the seat rail -2- using the trim removal wedge 3409.

Standard Seat (Power)

Pry the caps -1- off the seat forward/back adjustment spindle using the trim removal wedge 3409.

Procedure for All Seat Versions

Unclip rear cover -1- with the trim removal wedge 3409 and pull the cover in the direction of the -arrow- off of connector station -2-.

Note. Do not disconnect electrical wires.

Service Position, Resetting

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Make sure the cover tab slides into connector station correctly.

Engage the cover correctly with the connector station.

Bring seat into service position. Refer to FRONT SEATS SERVICE POSITION, SETTING .

Turn on the ignition.

Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Remove wiring bracket -3- upward from the connector station.

Note. The number of harness connectors may vary depending on the equipment. The description shows the version with the most equipment.

Remove side airbag connector -1-.

Connect the airbag adapter VAS 6281 to the side airbag connector on the front seat. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

Vehicles with seat heating: Disconnect the connector for the seat heating -2-.

Vehicles with power seats: Disconnect the connector for the power supply for seat adjuster -4-.

Disconnect the seat belt latch connector -5-.

Vehicles Equipped with a DVD Player

Push the grommet -3- to the side.

Disconnect and free up the electrical connectors -1- and -2- and free up the wiring harness.

MODULAR WIRE ROUTING WITH RIDGED TUBE ON FRONT SEAT

Note. The wires between the seat pan and the connector station are inside a double-shell corrugated tube in the modulate wiring routing.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim removal wedge 3409

Opening Corrugated Pipe and Removing Individual Wire

Turn on the ignition.

Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Remove the front seat

1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-520146-S31890469042012123100000) .
2. Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-520146-S36311108972012123100000) .
3. Super Sport seat, refer to «SUPER SPORT FRONT SEAT»(ref-520146-S39019005682012123100000) .

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat RepairVAS 6136 .

Open the wiring bracket -1- using the trim removal wedge 3409.

Scheme 158

Remove the wiring bracket -1- from the corrugated tube -2-.

Free up the corrugated tube -2- on the seat frame and open it.

Note. Replacing a faulty wire or opening the corrugated tube for the side airbag, refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] General Information or SIDE AIRBAG IGNITERS -N199- / -N200 .

Install Individual Wires And Close Corrugated Pipe

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

When bundling and placing individual wires in the corrugated tube, make sure the wires are not twisted.

Note. Note the installation position of the two-part corrugated tube to the wiring harness and the position of the wiring bracket to the corrugated tube.

The beginning of the corrugated tube -4- should be placed immediately after the clip -2- or cable tie.

Wiring harness to the connector station -3

Make sure the two-part corrugated tube -4- locks cleanly over entire length.

After connecting both halves of the corrugated tube, position the wiring bracket -1- and clip it into place according to the illustration.

Make sure the side -arrow A- of the wiring bracket -1- connects to the last rib -arrow B- on the corrugated tube -4-.

Install the cable ties, wiring bracket and clips in the same positions as before removal.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Procedure

1. Backrest cover removed.

When operating one of the two release levers, the release pins on the left and right of the seat frame must be operated at the same time.

Operate the release lever

1. Left and right release pins must be operated at the same time.

Release the release lever

1. The release cables must engage the release pins on the backrest hinge to the stop.
2. The release cables must then be relieved.

If necessary, rotate -arrows- adjusters -1- and -2- on the release cables accordingly.

The following describes the modular wiring for a manual standard front seat. It is similar for a power standard front seat.

Note. Check the part number of the front passenger memory seat control module -J521- and the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module -J136-. Use the gauge T40179 for 8T0 959 760, from the 8T0 959 760 B and following the gaugeT40181.

Slide the spacer sleeve T40180 onto the pins -3- as far as the stop.

1. The spacer sleeve T40180 and tab -4- must touch each other but must not activate the backrest lock switch -2-.

Unclip the slide retainer -1-.

Release the locking tab -4- in the direction of the -arrow-.

Move the slide -3- with the backrest lock switch -1- in the direction of -arrow A- or -arrow B-.

Note. Leave the spacer sleeve T40180 installed on the pins when adjusting the backrest lock switch.

Clip the slide retainer -1- in.

1. The locking bushing -4- must not engage with the spindle -3-. It must be able to move on the shaft -5-.

Position the gauge T40179 or gauge T40181 on the anchor -2-.

The front edge of the gauge -arrow B- must lie on the moving anchor -1-.

Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor.

Move the backrest forward until the anchor -1- lies on the gauge T40179 or gauge T40181 and the motor switches off.

Note. Depending on the switch adjusting, the backrest adjustment motor may stop before it runs into the block. Run the motor up to the block again. The gauge must be clamped in.

Rotate the spindle -2- until the spindle nut -1- operates the button -arrow-.

Engage the locking bushing -4- with the spindle -3-.

Remove the gauge.

Checking the Adjustment

Move the backrest back slightly using the adjusting motor.

Move the backrest forward again until the adjustment motor switches off.

1. There should be a gap at the location where the gauge was inserted for the adjustment.
2. The anchors must not be lined up on the block.

Note. The illustration of the seat foam can deviate from the real bench seat. Regardless of the shape of the seat foam, dimension -a- must be measured between the upper edge of the seat foam and the upper edge of the wire frame.

Place the bench seat with the cover on a clean stable surface.

Check dimension -a- on both sides of the seat frame, from the padding to the upper edge of the wire frame. Dimension -a- must be 16 to 22 mm.

If dimension -a- does not meet the specification, the wire frame must be adjusted to meet the specification. For this purpose evenly adjust the wire frame in the area of the -b motion arrows-.

Using pliers, disengage the eyes -3- (quantity: 2) from the pins -4- (quantity: 2) on both sides.

Unclip the end of the release cable -2-.

Apply adhesive tape -2- to the backrest shell all around trim -1-.

Using the pry lever80-200, pry off the upper backrest cover on the inner side, starting from the backrest shell.

Disengage the clip at the front edge of the backrest cover extremely carefully.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the backrest -3- and cut the cable ties -2- for the electrical wiring harness.

Remove the backrest with the electrical wiring harness.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert the bolts with locking compound.

FRONT BUCKET SEAT

Move bucket seat -1- all the way up and back.

Remove the bolts -2-.

Move the bucket seat all the way forward.

Remove the bolts -3-.

Tilt the bucket seat back and disconnect the electrical harness connectors. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Remove the bucket seat from the vehicle with a second technician.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Engage Assembly Tool 3399 and pry it in the direction of -arrow B-.

Remove backrest adjustment wheel.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

If backrest adjustment wheel is too loose after installation, replace wheel.

Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. Removal and installation on the other seat versions is similar. The illustration shows a backrest cover without a storage net. The storage net cannot be removed from the backrest cover and can only be replaced together with the backrest cover.

Disengage the lower side hooks -3- (quantity: 2) on the backrest cover -2-.

Press the backrest cover -1- toward the center of the seat in the direction of -arrow A-.

BACKREST FRAME TRIM

Move the backrest forward as far as the stop using the handwheel.

Disengage the entry assistance release cable A -1- at the backrest hinge.

1. The upholstery must be removed from the seat and backrest and they must be bolted to each other.
2. To adjust the entry assistance function, the backrest must be positioned at the front stop.
3. The entry assistance release cable B must be engaged at the backrest and on the seat pan lower frame.

Checking and Correcting

Disengage the eyelet on the entry assistance release cable B -3- from the pin -arrow- on the seat rail.

Unclip the entry assistance release cable B -3- at the seat forward/back adjuster -2-.

Push the upholstery to the side.

Disengage the eyelet on the entry assistance release cable B -1- from the pin -arrow- on the backrest hinge.

Disengage the retainer on the entry assistance release cable B at the backrest hinge and remove the cable.

Engage the eyelet on the entry assistance release cable B -1- from the pin -arrow- on the backrest hinge.

Secure the entry assistance release cable B on the backrest hinge.

Clip the entry assistance release cable B -3- in at the seat forward/back adjuster -2-.

Engage the eyelet on the entry assistance release cable B -3- from the pin -arrow- on the seat rail.

Adjust the entry assistance release cable B. Refer to ENTRY ASSISTANCE RELEASE CABLE B, ADJUSTING .

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Note. The function of the entry assistance release cable B is checked and corrected when adjusting the cable.

The following conditions must be met to check and correct the function

1. The upholstery must be removed from the seat and backrest and they must be bolted to each other.
2. To adjust the function, the backrest must be positioned at the front stop.
3. The entry assistance release cable B must be engaged at the backrest and on the seat pan lower frame.

Note. The knurled nut -1- on the entry assistance release cable B -2- is delivered in the position shown in the illustration and must not be changed. This ensures the entry assistance release cable B is preadjusted.

CHECKING AND CORRECTING

Fold the backrest over the entry assistance release unit.

If the function still does not work, it must be corrected.

Unclip the release cable -3- with the knurled nut from the seat forward/back adjuster -2-.

Rotate the knurled wheel approximately 10 mm forward.

Correct the position of the knurled nut if the adjustment is incorrect.

Clip the release cable -3- with the knurled nut into the seat forward/back adjuster -2-.

Repeat the checking and correcting procedure until the function is correct.

ENTRY ASSISTANCE TRIM

Note. Removal and installation can be performed with the front seat installed.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Scheme 241

Press the handle -arrow B- forward as far as the stop and hold it in that position.

Press the tab -arrow A- off the catch -arrow C- in the direction of the -arrow- using a trim removal wedge3409.

Perform the same step on the opposite side of the trim -1-.

Tilt the trim -1- upward diagonally and remove from the handle with the bracket -2-.

Disengage the rear trim catch from the handle with bracket.

Remove the trim from the bracket with handle.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

First engage the rear trim catch in the handle with bracket.

Make sure the trim engages correctly in the handle with bracket.

FOUR-WAY LUMBAR SUPPORT

Turn on the ignition.

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat RepairVAS 6136 .

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the backrest frame trim. Refer to BACKREST FRAME TRIM .

Remove headrests. Refer to

Remove the cover with the upholstery

2. Super Sport seat. Refer to «BACKREST COVER AND PADDING, SUPER SPORT SEAT»(ref-520176-S41691741002012123100000) .

Separate the Velcro fastener -3- between the system -2- and the upholstery.

Note. It requires relatively high amount of force to separate the Velcro fastener.

Note. Lay plastic film between the seat pan cover and the backrest frame to protect against metal shavings.

Drill out rivet -3-.

Disconnect the electrical connectors -1- and -2- at lumbar support curvature and height adjustment motors.

Disengage the four-way lumbar support -2- on the backrest frame -1-.

Remove the four-way lumbar support from the backrest frame.

Disengage system -2- at four-way lumbar support -1- if necessary -arrows-.

Engage system -2- at four-way lumbar support -1- if necessary -arrows-.

Lay plastic film -1- over the Velcro strips -2- on the system -2-.

Make sure the lumbar support is attached to the system -2- using an assembly fastener -4- or a suitable pin.

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move the seat all they way forward and in the highest position.

Release the hook -3- on the seat rail -2- and pry the cap off the seat rail screw -1- using the trim removal wedge3409 -arrow-.

Make sure the cap is engaged correctly.

Note. Removal and installation is described for the driver seat. Removal and installation of the passenger seat is similar.

Remove the front seat

Remove the tunnel side trim. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE

Remove the sill side trim. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE

Press the entry assistance release cables -1- and -3- out of the retaining plate -2- at the seat rail release.

Disengage the release cable -3- from the seat rail release -arrow-.

Disengage the release cable -1- at the seat rail release idler pulley -2-.

Using the trim removal wedge3409, unclip the wiring harness -1- in the corrugated tube -2- at the bottom side of the seat pan and remove the wiring bracket.

Disconnect all the wiring harness connectors to the backrest and free up the disconnected wiring harnesses.

Note. The wiring harness between the connection point and the side airbag is continuous.

Remove the bolts -2-.

Tip backrest -3- forward onto seat pan -1-.

Press the seat pan upholstery to the side and carefully remove side airbag wiring harness -4- and, if necessary, all additional wiring harnesses (depending on equipment) from the seat pan.

Press the release button forward in the direction of the -arrow-.

Hold the release button down in this position.

Disconnect the harness connectors> Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING on the connector station in the floor.

Connect Airbag Adapter VAS 6281. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

Remove front bolts -1- (quantity: 2).

Press the seat forward/back adjustment handle and move the seat -2- as far forward as possible.

Remove rear bolts -1- (quantity: 2).

With help from a second technician, lift the seat -2- out of the vehicle.

Release the seat forward/back adjuster.

Slide the front seat all the way back.

Unlatch the front seat using the entry assistance handle.

Fold the backrest forward and move the seat all the way forward at the same time.

Remove the rear seat bolt on the tunnel side. See item 15 in see scheme 37.

Press the rocker -arrow A- on the memory stop in the direction of the -arrow- and release it.

Remove the memory stop -1- from the seat rail -2- toward the rear by tipping it slightly toward the tunnel.

If the memory stop has been replaced, clean this area of the seat rail to remove any residue of the previous memory stone.

Engage the memory stop in the back catch -arrow-.

Tilt the backrest back while sliding the seat all the way back (entry assistance).

Replace the bolt -4-. Coat it with locking compound fluid and tighten it by hand.

First slide the shaft through the anchor (tunnel side) as far as the stop -2- in the backrest adjustment motor.

Check whether the profile of the inserted shaft and mount -2- in the backrest adjustment motor align.

1. If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor align

Slide the shaft through the mount in the backrest adjustment motor up to approximately the middle of the seat.

1. If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor do not align

Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor -1-.

Rotate mount -2- until it aligns with the shaft profile.

Slide the shaft through the mount in the backrest adjustment motor up to approximately the middle of the seat.

Install the switch unit. see scheme 253

Insert the switch unit -4- so the guide -arrow- covers the backrest frame -1- correctly.

Tighten the switch unit -4- to the tightening specification.

Connect the socket -5- to the switch unit multi-pin connector.

Position the locking bushing -4- on the shaft -3-.

Bolt the backrest adjustment motor on the bracket -3- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

After adjusting the switch unit, slide the locking bushing -4- onto the spindle -3-.

Engage the locking bushing -4- with the spindle -3-.

Check the switch unit. Refer to SWITCH UNIT MICRO-SWITCH, CHECKING .

Press the tab -arrow A- off the catch -arrow C- in the direction of the -arrow- using a trim removal wedge 3409.

Perform the same step on the opposite side of the trim -1-.

Tilt the trim -1- upward diagonally and remove from the handle with the bracket -2-.

Disengage the rear trim catch from the handle with bracket.

Remove the trim -1- from the handle with bracket -2- as far as the length of the entry assistance button wire allows.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the entry assistance button -2-.

Remove the trim -3- with the entry assistance button.

Remove the entry assistance button. Refer to ENTRY ASSISTANCE BUTTON .

Install the entry assistance button.

Connect the connector to the entry assistance button.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

First engage the rear trim retaining tab in the handle with bracket.

Make sure the trim engages correctly in the handle with bracket.

Removal and installation is described for a manual standard front seat. It is identical on a power sport front seat. Refer to ENTRY ASSISTANCE HANDLE WITH BRACKET .

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Turn on the ignition.

Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Remove the front seat

1. Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat. Refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-520146-S36311108972012123100000) .
2. Super Sport seat. Refer to «SUPER SPORT FRONT SEAT»(ref-520146-S39019005682012123100000) .

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136 .

Remove the tunnel side trim. Refer to TRIM, TUNNEL SIDE

Remove the sill side trim. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .

Using the trim removal wedge 3409, unclip the wiring harness -1- in the corrugated tube -2- at the bottom side of the seat and remove the wiring bracket.

Disconnect all the wiring harness connectors to the backrest and free up the disconnected wiring harnesses.

Note. The wiring harness between the connection point and the side airbag is continuous.

Remove the bolts -2-.

Tip backrest -3- forward onto seat pan -1-.

Press the seat pan upholstery to the side and carefully remove side airbag wiring harness -4- and, if necessary, all additional wiring harnesses -5- to the backrest (depending on equipment) from the seat pan.

Remove backrest.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Test The Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31- or Control Module(s) -J136- / -J521

Move the seat as far up as possible.

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TRIM, SILL SIDE .

Note. Check electrical and electronic components and wires before removing seat further to avoid unnecessary repair costs.

Perform the following tests

1. Check the fuse. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.
2. Check the voltage at the connector station and perform fault finding if necessary. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.
3. Check the voltage to the control module. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.
4. Check the voltage to the seat forward/back adjustment motor -V288-. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.

Replace the fuse if faulty. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.

If there is no voltage at the connector station, repair or replace the wire. Refer the appriopriate SYSTEM WIRING DUAGRAMS information.

Replace the seat pan lower frame together with seat forward/back adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT PAN .

Replace the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module -J136- /front passenger memory seat control module -J521- if faulty. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Removing A Faulty Seat Forward/Back Adjustment Motor -V28- / -V31

Scheme 290

Turn on the ignition.

Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Remove the bolts -3- (quantity: 4) on both sides.

I - Seat forward/back adjustment motor, threaded connection on sill side.

II - Seat forward/back adjustment motor, threaded connection on tunnel side.

Note. To remove the tunnel side bolts, reach under the seat from the front.

Disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Move seat until bolts -1- (quantity: 4) are visible.

Raise the front seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Separate the lower frame -2- from the upper frame -1-. Refer to SEAT PAN .

Replace the lower seat pan frame -2- with seat forward/back adjustment motor SEAT PAN .

Removing A Faulty Control Module -J136- / -J521

Turn on the ignition.

Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable from the battery. Refer to [For engine(s) CAUA,CAEB,CALA] Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Connect the seat forward/back adjustment motor to an external power source and move the seat forward or back until the bolts -1- (quantity: 4) are visible.

Remove the bolts -1-.

Disconnect the harness connectors at the connector station. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Connect Airbag Adapter VAS 6281. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

Raise the front seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repairVAS 6136. Refer to FRONT SEAT, INSTALLING ON THE Fixture for Seat RepairVAS 6136 .

Replace control module -J136- / -J521-. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Remove the airbag adapterVAS 6281 only after installing the front seat. Refer to AIRBAG ADAPTER VAS 6281, CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING .

Connect the connectors to the connectors of the connector station in the floor. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Lumbar Support Curvature Adjustment Motor, Removing and Installing

The lumbar support curvature adjustment motor is removed in a similar way as the lumbar support height adjustment motor.

Turn on the ignition.

Remove the front seat

Note. The floor panel into which the mounting grommets are inserted must be checked after every disassembly of the bench seat and be readjusted in the case of deformation. The wire frame of the bench seat must be checked after every disassembly and be readjusted in the case of deformation. The mounting grommets must be replaced each time the bench seat is removed.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Remove mounting grommets -2- from the body opening and throw away.

Check the floor panel for deformation and adjust if necessary. Refer to FLOOR PANEL FOR BENCH SEAT MOUNTING GROMMETS AND WIRE FRAME, CHECKING AND ALIGNING .

Check the wire frame for deformation and adjust if necessary. Refer to FLOOR PANEL FOR BENCH SEAT MOUNTING GROMMETS AND WIRE FRAME, CHECKING AND ALIGNING .

Lift floor covering -3- and press in new mounting grommets -2- until they engage audibly in body opening -1-.

Place floor covering -3- around grommet -2- as shown.

Note. Floor covering -3- may not be on grommet -2-. Make sure the seat heating electrical collections slide on and engage audibly.

Insert bench seat -1- and press wire frame -2- "firmly" into grommets -3-.

Ensure that wire frames -2- are engaged correctly in grommets -3-.

Note. The bench seat must finally be checked for secure fit.

For this purpose, grab with both hands under the seat frame on one side of the seat -A arrows- and pull evenly, not abruptly, upward with a force of approximately 100 to 150 N (approximately 10 to 15 kg).

Repeat the procedure on the other side -B arrows-.

Note. The bench seat must NOT disengage from the grommets.

If the bench seat does disengage, the entire procedure must be repeated. Refer to BENCH SEAT .

BENCH SEAT WITH CENTER STORAGE COMPARTMENT

The procedure for removing and installing the bench seat with center storage compartment is the same as with the bench seat without center storage compartment. Refer to BENCH SEAT .

Note. The center storage compartment is removed and installed with the bench seat.

CUPHOLDER TRIM

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Fold the center armrest -1- up.

Unclip the trim -2- using the trim removal wedge3409.

Begin at the bottom edge and release the catches -arrows-.

Then disengage the tabs -3-.

Remove the trim from the center armrest.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Press the button -3- on the headrest guide -4- in the direction of the -arrow- and hold it in that position.

Pull the headrest -1- out of the backrest -2- as far as the stop.

Using a small flat-head screwdriver, press the locking spring as far as the stop through the opening -arrow- in the headrest guide -1-.

Remove the headrest -2- from the backrest -3-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the headrest into the backrest as far as the bottom position.

Check if the headrest locks correctly.

1. It must not be possible to pull the headrest back out of the backrest.

Remove the headrests. Refer to HEADREST .

Remove the cover with upholstery from the backrest shell. Refer to

Fold the cover with upholstery -1- up until the headrest tubes -2- welded into the backrest shell -3- with the headrest guides -4- are visible.

Press the retaining tab -arrow A- down until the headrest guide -4- is no longer locked.

Pull headrest guide -4- upward out of headrest tube -2-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the headrest guide -4- into the headrest tube -2- until the retaining tab -arrow A- engages in the window -arrow B-.

Before continuing the installation of the upholstery and cover, make sure both headrest tubes are engaged and cannot be pulled out.

Remove the backrest. Refer to BACKREST .

Pry the cover disc off -4-.

Remove the bolt -3-.

Remove the grommet -2- from the bolt -3-.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the center armrest with the pass-through cover. Refer to CENTER ARMREST WITH PASS-THROUGH COVER .

Release the clips -arrows

Pull the internal upholstery -1- off opposite the center armrest.

While removing, swing the internal padding upward at the same time. The retaining hooks -2, 3 and 4- will disengage from their retainers -5 and 6- and out of the opening -7-.

Remove internal padding -1- from the center armrest with pass-through cover -8-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Tilt the internal padding -1- down and guide the retaining hooks -2-, -3- and -4- into the tabs -5- and -6- and the opening -7-.

Press the bottom side of internal padding -1- onto the clips -arrows- on the pass-through cover.

If the internal padding cannot be pressed on, carefully press the clips -arrows- in using a screwdriver until the padding engages in the retainer.

Remove the trim for the retainer with lock cylinder LOCK TRIM, WITH LOCK CYLINDER .

Make sure the indicator is in the >>top<< position.

Release the retaining tabs -bottom arrows- (quantity: 4) and press the lock cylinder -3- with the key -2- out of the trim -1-.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the lock -2- into the new lock cylinder correctly.

Remove the protective cap -4- from the new lock cylinder -3-.

Insert the lock cylinder -3- into the trim -1- in the correct installation position.

Install the trim with lock cylinder in the backrest LOCK TRIM, WITH LOCK CYLINDER .

Turn the key 90° counterclockwise.

Lock the backrest.

Note. The illustration shows the left trim with a lock cylinder.

1. Left trim: the pins -top arrow- in lock cylinder -3- must face forward (direction of travel).
2. Right trim: the pin on the lock cylinder must face the rear (direction of travel).

LOCK TRIM, WITHOUT LOCK CYLINDER

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Release the backrest.

Make sure the button -2- is in the >>top<< position.

Press the retaining tabs on both sides of the trim -1- in the direction of the -arrow- using the trim removal wedge3409.

Pull the front of the trim -1- as far up from the backrest -3- as possible.

Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry the clip -arrow- located in the rear area of the trim -1- out of the retainer.

Remove the trim upward from the backrest.

Guide the front clips -arrow- under the cover.

Make sure the cover is covered by the rear part of the trim -1-.

Press the front of trim -1- down until the clips -arrows- engage audibly in the retainer.

Press the section of trim -1- marked with an -arrow- down at an angle until the center rear clip engages audibly in the retainer.

Note. The illustration shows trim with a lock cylinder. The trim -1- is seated securely once it engages audibly with the retainer.

Make sure the button -2- moves easily after installing the trim.

LOCK TRIM, WITH LOCK CYLINDER

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Release the backrest.

Make sure the button -2- is in the top position.

Press the retaining tabs on both sides of the trim -1- in the direction of the -arrow- using the trim removal wedge 3409.

Pull the front of the trim -1- as far up from the backrest -3- as possible.

Using a flat-head screwdriver, pry the rear of the trim -1- out of the retainer.

Scheme 346

This breaks the clip off at the set breaking point -arrow-.

Note. The clip on the center rear of the trim must be destroyed after removing the trim with the lock cylinder.

Guide the front clips -arrow- under the cover.

Make sure the cover is covered by the rear part of the trim -1-.

Press the front of trim -1- down until the clips -arrows- engage audibly in the retainer.

Press the section of trim -1- marked with an -arrow- down at an angle until the center rear clip engages audibly in the retainer.

Note. The trim -1- is seated securely once it engages audibly with the retainer.

Make sure the button -2- moves easily after installing the trim.

When installing the trim -1-, make sure the lock cylinder installation position is correct. (Scheme 347)

1. Left trim: the pin on the lock cylinder must face forward (direction of travel).
2. Right trim: the pin on the lock cylinder must face the rear (direction of travel).

LOCKABLE ARMREST STORAGE COMPARTMENT

Note. The cover can only be replaced with the storage compartment (trim).

Remove center armrest. Refer to CENTER ARMREST .

Open the storage compartment -1- cover -4-.

Remove the bolts -2- and -3-.

Press the tabs -arrows- on the storage compartment (cover for the lockable storage compartment) -1- in the direction of the -arrow-, until the retaining tabs disengage from the retainer on the bracket -2-.

Remove the storage compartment (cover for lockable armrest storage compartment) -1- in the direction of the -arrow- (upward and to the front at an angle) from the bracket.

Remove the storage compartment.

Install in reverse order of removal.

Remove the bolts -arrows- (quantity: 4).

Remove pass-through cover -2- from center armrest -1-.

Remove the internal upholstery -3-. Refer to INTERNAL PADDING .

Install in reverse order of removal.

Fold center armrest up.

Insert the key -3- into the lock cylinder -2- correctly.

Turn the key -3- 90° counterclockwise.

Push the pass-through handle -1- up as far as the stop.

Release the tabs -arrows- and press the lock cylinder -2- with the key -3- out of the handle.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the lock -3- into the new lock cylinder -2- correctly.

Remove the protective cap -4- from the new lock cylinder -2-.

Insert the lock cylinder -2- in the correct installation position into the pass-through handle -1-.

Turn the key 90° clockwise.

1. Installation position of the lock cylinder: the key slot must be vertical and the retaining tab -arrow- must point to the right, opposite the direction of travel.

RELEASE CABLE WITH REMOTE CONTROL UNLOCK HANDLE

Locking Mechanism, Version I

Detach the cable bracket -1- from the locking mechanism -2-.

Detach the nipple on the release cable from the release tab -3-.

Remove the support plate -1- on the locking mechanism -2-.

Note. There are different seat pan upper frames, with and without a seat depth adjuster. A seat pan without seat depth adjuster is used for describing taking the seat pan apart and putting it back together. The procedure is similar for taking a seat pan that has a seat depth adjuster apart and putting it back together. When removing the seat pan, make sure the bushings in the bearing points (upper and lower frame threaded connection) are not damaged. These bushing cannot be replaced with workshop materials. The upper and lower frames of the seat pan cannot be separated on the following front seats: manual standard seat and manual sport seat. The upper and lower frames of the seat pan can be separated from each other and replaced individually on the following front seats: power standard seat, power sport seat, comfort seat and super sport seat.

Disassembling

Move the front seat as far up as possible to keep the torsion bar tension as low as possible.

Remove the front seat

Remove the seat pan upholstery

Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Remove the torsion bar. Refer to TORSION BAR .

Remove bolts -2- (quantity: 4).

Remove the bolt -3-.

Remove the upper frame -1- upward from the lower frame -4-.

Be careful of bushings -1- in the bearing locations on seat pan lower frame -2-.

Upper Seat Frame, Replacing

Remove the bracket with the memory seat adjustment control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE BRACKET and MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Remove the seat height adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT MOTOR .

Remove the seat angle adjustment motor. Refer to SEAT ANGLE ADJUSTMENT MOTOR .

Remove the seat position sensor. Refer to

Lower Frame, Replacing

Note. If the lower frame will be replaced, remove the seat position sensor and install it in the new lower frame.

Separate the upper and lower frames, SEAT PAN => Upper and Lower Frames, Separating .

Remove the seat position sensor. Refer to

Assembling

The seat pan is assembled in reverse order. Note the following

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
