Disconnecting

Disconnect the side airbag connector. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Connect VAS 6281 to side airbag connector on seat side -1-.

Note. Ensure airbag adapter engages correctly.

Connect the airbag connectors in the sequence below, note the following

Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

MODULAR WIRE ROUTING WITH RIDGED TUBE ON FRONT SEAT

Note. The wires between the seat pan and the connector station are inside a double-shell corrugated tube in the so-called modulate wiring routing.

Opening corrugated tube and removing individual wire

Remove the front seat

1. Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to «MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-522379-S29082603452013011400000) .
2. Standard and sport power seat, comfort seat and super sport seat, refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-522379-S23432344862013011400000) .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136, refer to INSTALLING THE FRONT SEAT ON VAS 6136 .

Open the wiring bracket -1- using the 3409.

Scheme 598

Remove the wiring bracket from the corrugated tube -2-.

Note. Replacing a faulty wire or opening the corrugated tube for the side airbag, refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CCBA] General Information or THORAX (SIDE) AIRBAG IGNITERS -N199- / -N200 .

Install individual wires and close corrugated tube

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

When bundling and placing individual wires in the corrugated tube, make sure the wires are not twisted.

Note. Note the installation position of the two-part corrugated tube to the wiring harness and the position of the wiring bracket to the corrugated tube.

The beginning of the corrugated tube -4- should be placed immediately after the clip -2- or cable tie around the wiring harness -3-.

Scheme 599

Make sure the two-part corrugated tube locks cleanly over entire length.

After connecting both halves of the corrugated tube, wiring bracket -1- should be positioned and clipped into place according to the illustration.

Make sure the side -arrow A- of the cable bracket connects to the last rib -arrow B- on the corrugated tube.

Install the cable ties, wiring bracket and clips in the same positions as before removal.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.

BACKREST RELEASE CABLE, ADJUSTING

The following prerequisites must be met to adjust

1. The backrest cover must be removed.
2. The upholstery must be removed from the backrest.

Note. The pins (release pins) -2- on both sides must be locked (delivery position, i.e. basic position).

Tilt the bracket -1- up so there is a distance -a- = 2 to 4 mm between the backrest frame stop surface -arrow A- and the bracket stop ridge -arrow B-.

Hold the bracket -1- in this position.

Note. The illustration does not show the side cable adjuster.

Adjust the left and right release cables -1- and -2- at the cable adjusters -arrows-.

To adjust, rotate the upper section -arrow A- and lower section -arrow B- against each other.

Adjust the cables so they are free of play and tension.

Note. The illustration only shows one side of the retainer. When adjusting the cables -1-, they must not be tensioned on the release pins -2-.

After adjusting release cables, check function of backrest lock.

If it does not release or only releases partially, check the release cable routing or repeat the adjustment.

ENTRY ASSISTANCE RELEASE CABLE A, ADJUSTING

The following conditions must be met to adjust the "entry assistance" release cable

1. The upholstery must be removed from the seat and backrest and they must be bolted to each other.
2. To adjust the >>entry assistance<< function, the backrest must be positioned at the front stop.
3. The >>entry assistance<< release cable B must be engaged at the backrest and on the lower section of the seat.

Checking and Correcting

Press the >>entry assistance<< lever -4- in the direction of the -arrow- as far as the stop.

Release the tabs -3- and -5- -arrows A- with a screwdriver while pushing the lock -2- down -arrow B- at the same time.

To adjust, turn the upper part -4- and the lower part -1- contrary to each other.

Adjust the cable so it is free of play and tension.

Make sure the cables work after adjusting them.

If it does not release or only releases partially, check the release cable routing or repeat the adjustment.

INSTALLING

Remove airbag adapter only after installing front seat. Refer to Airbag Adapter VAS 6281, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Connect the connectors to the couplings of the coupling station in the floor. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the battery GND cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Slide the T40180 onto the pins -3- as far as the stop.

1. The T40180 and tab -4- must touch each other but must not activate the backrest lock switch -2-.

Remove the slide retainer -1- with a screwdriver -arrow-.

Release the locking tab -4- in the -direction of the arrow-.

Scheme 617

Move the slide -3- with the backrest lock switch -1- in the direction of -arrow A or B-.

Note. Leave the T40180 installed on the pins when adjusting the backrest lock switch.

Clip the slide retainer -1- in.

1. The locking bushing -4- must not engage with the spindle -3-. It must be able to move on the shaft -5-.

Place the T40181 on the anchor -2-.

The front edge of the gauge -arrow B- must lie on the moving anchor -1-.

Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor.

Move the backrest forward until the anchor -1- lies on the T40181 and the motor switches off.

Note. Depending on the switch adjusting, the backrest adjustment motor may stop before it runs into the block. Run the motor up to the block again. >>The gauge must be clamped in<<.

Rotate the spindle -2- until the spindle nut -1- operates the button -arrow-.

Engage the locking bushing -4- with the spindle -3-.

Remove the gauge.

Checking Adjustment

Move the backrest back slightly using the adjusting motor.

Move the backrest forward again until the adjustment motor switches off.

1. There should be a gap at the location where the gauge was inserted for the adjustment.
2. The anchors must not be located together on the block.

1. Front seat removed from the vehicle.

Mount the VAS 6136 on the VAS 6095.

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136.

MANUAL STANDARD FRONT SEAT

Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

REMOVING

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Scheme 622

Move the seat -2- all the way forward and up.

Remove the seat rail cap on the sill side. Refer to SEAT RAIL CAP .

Remove the rear bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -3-.

Move seat as far back and up as possible.

Remove the seat rail spindle cover. Refer to SEAT RAIL SPINDLE COVER .

Remove the front bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -4-.

Disconnect the electrical connectors at the coupling station in the floor panel. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Connect VAS 6281. Refer to Airbag Adapter VAS 6281, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Raise the seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Remove VAS 6281 only after installing seat. Refer to Airbag Adapter VAS 6281, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Connect the connectors to the couplings of the coupling station in the floor. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move seat as far back and up as possible.

Pry the spindle cover -1- from the seat rail cover -2- and seat forward/back adjustment spindle using the 3409.

Make sure the spindle cover is engaged correctly.

SEAT RAIL CAP

Note. The cap is installed only on the back of the seat rail, on the sill side.

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move the seat all they way forward and in the highest position.

Release the hook -3- on the seat rail -2- and pry the cap off the seat rail screw -1- using the 3409 -arrow-.

Make sure the cap is engaged correctly.

SEAT RAIL COVER

Note. The procedure for removing and installing is described on the driver seat sill side seat rail cover. The procedure is similar for the tunnel side seat rail cover.

Engage 3399 and pry it in direction of -arrow B-.

Turn backrest adjustment wheel about 120° more.

Engage 3399 and pry it in direction of -arrow B-.

Remove backrest adjustment wheel.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

If backrest adjustment wheel is too loose after installation, replace wheel.

SILL SIDE TRIM

Note. Removal and installation can be performed with the front seat installed.

2 - Seat pan

Carefully rotate the torsion bar -1- with a screwdriver until it disengages from the oblong hole -arrow- on the seat pan.

Remove the front cover with the cushion, refer to BACKREST COVER WITH CUSHION .

Insert the M6 threaded pin -1- into the VAS 5073 and install internally threaded pop rivet -2- all the way.

Insert the pop rivet all the way into the hole in the backrest frame -3- and then compress it with the pop rivet pliers.

Remove the threaded pin with the pop rivet pliers one more time.

Install the retaining plate for the DVD player. Refer to DVD PLAYER RETAINING PLATE .

Remove the front cover with the cushion. Refer to BACKREST COVER WITH CUSHION .

Remove the bolts -1-.

Remove the retaining plate -2- for the screen console.

Remove the nut -2-.

Guide the socket -4- and washer -3- out of the mount -1-.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Pull the washer -3- up and slide the socket -4- from the side into the mount -1-.

1. The socket must fit in the center of the mount.

Hold the socket in this position and tighten the nut.

Install the retaining plate hooks into the backrest frame -3- -arrows-.

Tighten the bolts.

BACKREST COVER

Note. Removal and installation can be done with seat installed. Removing and installing a standard front seat is described. It is identical for the other seat versions. The illustration shows a backrest cover without a storage net. The storage net cannot be removed from the backrest cover and can only be replaced together with the backrest cover.

Reach behind the backrest cover -1- as shown in the illustration, and pull it to the right and off the seat backrest -2-.

Note. If this is difficult, the 80 - 200.

Repeat the process on the other side.

Loosen all the hooks.

Remove the backrest cover further and roll it up until the upper hooks come out of the backrest frame.

Remove backrest cover upward.

First push the upper hook -2- under the upper backrest cross member -1-.

Tilt the backrest cover down and engage the side retaining tabs -3- and -5- and the lower hooks -4-.

Make sure the tabs on the side fit correctly into the backrest frame and the lower hooks are bent correctly over the backrest frame.

Press the backrest cover firmly into the areas marked with circles -arrows- in the direction of the backrest.

Push the upholstery to the side.

Engage the entry assistance cable A bracket -2- to the seat forward/back adjustment -1-.

Engage the >>entry assistance<< release cable A -1- at the backrest hinge.

Install the "entry assistance" release cable A guide -2- on the seat frame.

Adjust the "entry assistance" release cable A. Refer to ENTRY ASSISTANCE RELEASE CABLE A, ADJUSTING .

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following

Release the seat forward/back adjuster.

Slide the front seat all the way back.

Unlatch the front seat using the entry assistance handle.

Fold the backrest forward and move the seat all the way forward at the same time.

Remove the rear seat bolt on the tunnel side. Refer to item 15 .

Press the rocker -arrow A- on the memory stop in the direction of the -arrow- and release it.

Remove the memory stop -1- from the seat rail -2- toward the rear by tipping it slightly toward the tunnel.

If the memory stop has been replaced, clean this area of the seat rail to remove any residue of the previous memory stone.

Install the memory stop into the seat rail -1- by slightly tipping it toward the tunnel.

Lock the memory stop in the very last hole -arrow-.

Tighten the rear seat bolt on the tunnel side. Refer to item 15 .

Tilt the backrest back while sliding the seat back (entry assistance system).

Release the seat forward/back adjuster and slide the front seat into the desired position.

Note. It is not necessary to adjust the memory seat separately.

HEADRESTS WITH LOCKING MECHANISM

Note. The headrests can be removed with front seat installed. The release button is located on the outer left of the driver seat and inner left of the passenger seat.

Press the release button forward in the direction of the -arrow-.

Hold the release button down in this position.

Pull headrest -2- up out of guides -1- and -4-.

Remove the front seat

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING THE FRONT SEAT ON VAS 6136 .

1. Airbag Adapter VAS 6281

Note. The following describes removing and installing the driver side. The procedure for the front passenger seat is similar.

Bring headrest into lowest lock position.

Move the seat -2- all the way forward and up.

Remove the seat rail cap on the sill side. Refer to SEAT RAIL CAP .

Remove the rear bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -3-.

Move the seat all the way to the rear and raise it.

Remove the seat rail spindle cover. Refer to SEAT RAIL SPINDLE COVER .

Remove the front bolts -1- (quantity 2) to the console -4-.

Switch the ignition on.

Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connectors at the coupling station in the floor panel. Refer to HARNESS CONNECTORS, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Connect VAS 6281. Refer to Airbag Adapter VAS 6281, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Raise the front seat with a 2nd technician and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Disengage the rear trim catch from the handle with bracket.

Remove the trim from the handle and bracket as far as the length of the wire for the entry assistance button.

Disconnect the connector -1- on the entry assistance button -2-.

UPPER SEAT FRAME

Note. There are different versions of the upper seat frame: with and without the seat depth adjustment. A seat pan without seat depth adjuster is used for describing taking the seat pan apart and putting it back together. The procedure is similar for taking a seat pan that has a seat depth adjuster apart and putting it back together. When removing the seat pan, make sure the bushings in the bearing points (upper and lower frame threaded connection) are not damaged. These bushing cannot be replaced with workshop materials. The upper and lower seat frames cannot be separated on the following front seats: manual standard seat and manual Sport seat. The upper and lower seat frames can be separated from each other can be replaced individually on the following front seats: power standard seat, power Sport seat, Comfort seat and Super Sport seat.

Remove the front seat

Remove the backrest Refer to BACKREST .

Remove the seat pan upholstery.

Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Disconnect the front safety belt latch connector. Refer to FRONT BELT LATCH .

Remove the seat position sensor from the lower frame. Refer to SEAT POSITION SENSOR WITH SEAT OCCUPIED SENSOR FOR BELT FASTENING DETECTION .

Remove the bolt -3-.

Remove bolts -2- (quantity: 4).

Remove the upper frame -1- upward from the lower frame -4-.

Be careful of the bushings -1- in the bearing locations on the seat pan lower frame -2-.

Note. If the upper frame will be replaced, remove the wires and electrical and electronic components listed and install them in the new upper frame.

Remove the memory seat/steering column adjustment control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE .

Remove the bracket and control module. Refer to MEMORY SEAT/STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT CONTROL MODULE BRACKET

Remove wiring harnesses and individual wires from seat pan upper frame.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Raise the seat to make it possible to pretension the torsion bar.

Disconnect the electrical connector on the seat forward/back adjustment motor.

Make sure the bushings -1- and the bearing points (connection upper and lower frame) -2- are not damaged.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

1. If the shaft profile and the mount in the backrest adjustment motor do not align

Connect an external power source (12 Volt) to the backrest adjustment motor -1-.

Rotate the mount -2- until it aligns with the shaft profile.

Slide the shaft through the mount in the backrest adjustment motor up to approximately the middle of the seat.

Install the switch unit Refer to SWITCH UNIT, MICRO SWITCH FOR BACKREST ADJUSTMENT WHEEL .

Slide the shaft -3- through the spindle and the anchor (sill side) as far as the stop.

Apply locking compound to the threaded section of the shaft.

Install and tighten the new nut -5- on the shaft.

Bolt the backrest adjustment motor on the bracket -3- and tighten it to the tightening specification.

Adjust the switch unit micro switch -2- Refer to SWITCH UNIT MICRO SWITCH, ADJUSTING .

After adjusting the switch unit, slide the locking bushing -4- onto the spindle -3-.

Lock the locking bushing with the spindle.

Check the switch unit Refer to SWITCH UNIT MICRO SWITCH, CHECKING .

Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following

Remove the front seat

1. Standard and Sport Power Seat, Comfort Seat and Super Sport Seat. Refer to «POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT»(ref-522379-S23432344862013011400000) .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136 Refer to INSTALLING THE FRONT SEAT ON VAS 6136 .

Remove tunnel side trim panel Refer to TUNNEL SIDE TRIM .

Remove tunnel side trim panel Refer to SILL SIDE TRIM .

Remove backrest cover panel Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Mark the angle adjustment of the left and right backrest mounting brackets on the seat as follows

Make a permanent mark (line) -arrow A- on the backrest frame -2- right at the front edge -arrow B- of the anchor -1-.

Remove the nut -5- from the shaft -3-.

Remove the cover from the backrest near the backrest hinge. Refer to BACKREST COVER WITH CUSHION .

Remove the shaft -5- in the -direction of the arrow- from the switch unit -2-.

Disconnect the multi-pin connector -5-.

Equipment level with storage compartment: remove the storage compartment. Refer to STORAGE COMPARTMENT .

Move the seat depth adjuster all the way forward.

Unclip the tabs -arrows- on the trim -1- using a 3409.

Remove the trim from the seat depth adjuster.

UPHOLSTERY WITH HEADREST WITH LOCKING MECHANISM

The headrest with slide-in locking mechanism is a fixed component of the backrest upholstery. It is not possible to separate the upholstery and the headrest.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Fixture for Seat Repair VAS 6136

Remove the front seat. Refer to POWER STANDARD FRONT SEAT .

Attach the front seat to the VAS 6136. Refer to INSTALLING THE FRONT SEAT ON VAS 6136 .

Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to BACKREST COVER .

Remove the backrest cover and cushion/head restraint. Refer to BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION, SUPER SPORT SEAT .

Headrest guide without release button

Press the retaining tabs -arrows- on the headrest guide -1- toward the center of the headrest guide.

Hold the retaining tabs down.

Pull the headrest guide up out of the backrest frame -2-.

Press the retaining tabs -arrows- on the headrest guide -1- toward the center of the headrest guide.

Hold the retaining tabs down.

Pull the headrest guide up out of the backrest frame -2-.

Scheme 719

Tilt the front seat backrests as far forward as possible.

Move the front seats as far forward as possible.

Reach under the seat frame with both hands on one side of the seat.

Pull the bench seat -1- up forcefully with both hands -A arrows- so the seat frame -2- on the bench seat disengage from the mounting -3-.

Repeat the procedure on the other side of the bench seat -arrows B-.

Vehicles with seat heating: disconnect the seat heating connector

Remove the bench seat from vehicle.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Make sure the eyelets on the seat bench correctly fit around the connecting tube on the backrest frame.

Press on the rear seat bench downward into the mount until it audibly engages.

Note. Make sure the seat heating electrical collections slide on and engage audibly.

Remove the seat bench. Refer to BENCH SEAT .

Remove the molding -2- on both side from the center storage compartment mounting -arrow- -1-.

Remove the bolts -1- and -3-.

Remove the center storage compartment -2- on the seat frame -arrows-.

Remove the center storage compartment from the seat frame.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

When installing, make sure all the tabs slide onto the seat frame and the center storage compartment engages completely.

Align the cover molding to the center storage compartment and then clip the cover into the center storage compartment mount.

Make sure the covers are secured on the center storage compartment without wrinkles.

SIDE UPHOLSTERY

Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to BENCH SEAT .

Remove the nut -2-.

Remove the lower side upholstery -1- forward from the threaded pin.

Pull the side upholstery downward -arrow- and remove it.

REAR BACKREST

Note. The split rear seat backrest cannot be removed or installed separately.

Tilt the front seat backrests as far forward as possible.

Move the front seats as far forward as possible.

Remove the seat bench. Refer to BENCH SEAT .

Remove the rear belt latch. Refer to REAR BELT LATCH .

Remove the side cushion. Refer to SIDE UPHOLSTERY .

Remove the front luggage compartment floor covering. Refer to FRONT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT COVERING .

Unlock the left and right rear seat backrest and fold them forward.

Remove the backrest frame bolts -1- and -2-.

Scheme 723

Disengage the backrest frame from the threaded pin and remove the rear seat backrest -3- from the vehicle.

Mount the backrest frame on the threaded pin and tighten the screws hand-tight.

Fold the left and right rear seat backrests back up and lock them.

Tighten the bolts -1-.

Unlock the left and right rear seat backrest and fold them forward.

Tighten bolt -2-.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

STRIKER PIN COVER

Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

1. Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror 80 - 200

Tilt the front seat backrests as far forward as possible.

Move the front seats as far forward as possible.

Unlock the rear seat backrest and fold it forward.

Pry the cover -2- off the rear seat backrest striker pin -1- using the 80 - 200 -arrows-.

Position the striker pin cover on the bracket and press on it until it audibly engages.

Scheme 725

Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to REAR BACKREST .

Remove the upholstery around the screws and move it to the side. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION .

Remove the backrest frame bolts on the back of the frame -4- and -5- for the backrest shell.

Move the cover and cushion to the side and remove the screws -1- and -3- on the backrest shell.

Remove the rear seat backrest -2- with the cover and cushion upward and out of the frame guides.

Repeat the same process on the 2nd backrest.

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

BACKREST PANEL

Note. The backrest shell is removed and installed the same way the backrest frame is.

Remove the cover and cushion on the rear seat backrest. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST COVER AND CUSHION .

Remove the rear seat backrest from the backrest frame. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST, REMOVING FROM BACKREST FRAME .

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

STRIKER PIN

Note. Removal and installation are same for right and left.

Pull the lever -1- and unlock the rear seat backrest.

Hold the level pulled and remove the expanding rivet -3- with a screwdriver.

Pry out the release lever -2- using the 3409 -arrow- and remove it.

Unclip the release cable -2- from the rear seat backrest release lever -1-.

Disengage the cable ball stud -3- and remove the release lever.

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

REAR SEAT BACKREST LOCK

Note. Removing and installing the left lock is described. Removing and installing the right lock is similar.

Tilt the front seat backrests as far forward as possible.

Move the front seats as far forward as possible.

Unlock the rear seat backrest and fold it forward.

Remove the screws -3- on the lock -1-.

Remove the lock and disengage the cable -2- on the cable bracket.

RELEASE

Note. Removing and installing the left cable is described. Removing and installing the right cable is similar.

Remove the lock. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST LOCK .

Remove the rear seat backrest release lever. Refer to REAR SEAT BACKREST RELEASE LEVER .

Remove the luggage compartment side trim. Refer to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT SIDE TRIM .

Remove the screws -3- and -4- on the guide rail.

Note. Push the convertible top compartment slightly downward and remove the screw -3- from the inside of the convertible top compartment enclosure.

Remove the cable -1- from the brackets -arrows-.

REAR HEADREST POP RIVET NUT

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Pop Rivet Pliers VAS 5072
2. Drill
3. 6.5 mm drill bit
4. Protective goggles

Open the convertible top until the displayed position of the top and the convertible top compartment cover is reached.

Support the convertible top with a suitable wood stick.

Remove the rear head restraint. Refer to REAR HEADREST .

Coat the 6.5 mm drill with grease so that the drill shavings will stick to it.

Remove the old pop rivet nuts.

Clean up any drill shavings with a vacuum cleaner.

Scheme 734

Rivet in the new pop rivet nuts using the VAS 5072.

Install the rear head restraints. Refer to REAR HEADREST .

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following

Connect the Ground (GND) cable on the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .
