Checking for short-circuits to ground

Check the cable between control module terminal #9 and the cargo compartment lighting/third row reading lamps. Check for a short-circuit to ground.

Replace the cable if a fault is found.

Check the cable between control module terminal #9 and the cargo compartment lighting/third row reading lamps. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Also check the ground connection of the cargo compartment lighting/third row reading lamps.

Remedy as necessary.

Reading off the programmed values

Note. Read off the programmed values from the upper electronic module (UEM) before replacing the control module.

  1. Ignition on
  2. Click on the symbol for VCT2000 to read off the programmed values. The retained values are programmed customer parameters in the upper electronic module (UEM). Replacing control modules and downloading software

CAUTIONA new control module is delivered without software. In order for the control module to function new software must be programmed into the control module after it has been replaced.

Replace the control module and download the new software. See Interior lighting and upper electronic module (UEM), replacing .

HINT: When diagnostic trouble code (DTC) E001 is stored, communication with the control module cannot be established. This can be remedied in two ways.

  1. Press the remote control button for local lighting
  2. Remove fuse 11C/28 from the fusebox in the passenger compartment. Reinstall the fuse again.

Checking the interior lighting

Two times can be programmed for the interior lighting

1. Short

  1. The period from when the door is unlocked, or the engine stops, to when the interior lighting goes out can be changed if it is too long or too short.

2. Long

  1. The period from when the door is opened, or a lamp is lit with a switch, to when the lamp goes out can be changed if it is too long or too short.

To program a long interior lighting period you must step ("click") through the short interior lighting period programming.

Programming a short interior lighting period

The general lighting and rear reading lamps light and remain lit for 30 seconds when

  1. The door has been unlocked from outside with a key or the remote control.
  2. The engine has been stopped and the ignition key turned to 0.

The default period is 30 seconds. This can be changed to between 5 and 255 seconds.

Read off the programmed values.

To change the time, mark the desired value in the scrolling list and start programming.

Do you want to program any more parameters?

Programming a long interior lighting period

The general lighting and rear reading lamps light and remain lit for 10 minutes when

  1. A door is opened after being unlocked.
  2. The lamp is lit with a switch.

The default period is 10 minutes. This can be changed to between 0 and 255 minutes at 10 minute intervals.

Read off the programmed values.

To change the time, mark the desired value in the scrolling list and start programming.

Checking the anti-dazzle function

Note. If the upper electronic module (UEM) has been replaced software, specially developed for downloading after replacing the control module, must be downloaded to the control module before the anti-dazzle function is changed. See Interior lighting and upper electronic module (UEM), replacing .

The rear view mirror anti-dazzle function can be adjusted

  1. If the rear view mirror anti-dazzle function is too powerful or too weak, it can be adjusted.

Specific software for setting the anti-dazzle function must be installed in the car to do this.

Order the software. See 9499432 .

Install the software. See 9499432 .

Fault-tracing indicates that the control module had previously identified an intermittent fault, but that the fault is no longer present.

Set-up

Checking the connectors

Check the connector between the sun roof module (SRM) and sun roof motor. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Check that fuse 11C/7 (11C/13 XC90) in the passenger compartment fuse box is intact.

Check connector 54/13. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.

Checking for open-circuits and short-circuits

Check the cable between sun roof module (SRM) terminal #10A and ground, left A-post. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage.

Check the cable between the sun roof module (SRM) terminal #1A and fuse 11C/7 (11C/13 XC90) in the passenger compartment fuse box for a short-circuit to ground or an open-circuit.

Replace the cable if a fault is found.

After carrying out repairs, the sun roof module (SRM) should be calibrated. See Sun roof module (SRM), calibrating .

Check the connector between the sun roof module (SRM) and sun roof motor. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for loose connections.

Check connector 54/13. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for loose connections.

Check the cable between sun roof module (SRM) terminal #10A and ground, left A-post. Check for an intermittent short-circuit to supply voltage.

Check the cable between the sun roof module (SRM) terminal #1A and fuse 11C/7 (11C/13 XC90) in the passenger compartment fuse box for a short-circuit to ground or an intermittent open-circuit.

Checking the data cable

HINT: The wiring between upper electronic module (UEM) and the rain sensor consists of two cables.

The upper electronic module (UEM) transmits pulses to the rain sensor using the data cable.

Disconnect the rain sensor.

Check that the data is transmitted on the data cable terminal #1 by checking the voltage level between the data and ground cables for the wiring (that is terminals #1 and #2).

HINT: Use the oscilloscope function and check that a pulsed signal is transmitted. The difference between the high and low values of the pulses is approximately 12 V. In the event of an open-circuit in the data cable no pulses are transmitted and a continuous voltage is displayed.

If the difference between high and low values of the pulses is between 2 V and 10 V it indicates that the wiring is oxidized or trapped. Replace the wiring between the rain sensor and the roof wiring in the event of a fault.

If no other fault is found try replacing the rain sensor.

If the fault remains, the upper electronic module (UEM) must be replaced. NOTE: If possible, read off the programmed data from the control module before it is replaced. The remote receiver is located in the inner rear view mirror, and receives signals from both the remote control and the tire pressure sensors. The function of the remote receiver can be checked using the remote control.

Check that the remote receiver works by pressing the lock and unlock button on the remote control. The vehicle should be locked and unlocked.

Checking tire pressure sensors

  1. Ignition on. Each tire pressure sensor has its own ID number and battery voltage status, which are sent to and stored in the Upper electronic module (UEM) Read out the ID numbers for the tire pressure sensors by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol. Use the following special tools to activate the sensor. «9512987»(ref-403953-S35674831992011061500000) The special tool activates the sensor, which then starts to send information to the Upper Electronic Module (UEM). After activating a sensor, press the "Show data" button for the relevant wheel. Repeat activation for all wheels. Different ID numbers should appear. If the same ID number is displayed as for the previous wheel, activation has failed. Then activate the relevant wheel again and press the "Show data" button again. NOTE: Do not forget to press the correct button after each wheel has been activated. NOTE: Make sure no special tools lie under the edge of the rim against the tire where the sensor is installed. Activation will not happen if the tool is placed next to the rim. The tool must then be kept in position for 5 seconds for the signals to be received correctly. Use only one special tool at a time in the vicinity of the vehicle. NOTE: Avoid positioning the vehicle close to other moving vehicles, the receiver may then receive signals from the sensors of these vehicles. The incorrect ID number may then appear. Then read off the ID number that is stored for the relevant diagnostic trouble code, by clicking on the diagnostic trouble code in the list. The ID number is then displayed in the window above the list. Compare the read-out ID number for the relevant wheel with the ID number that is stored with the DTC. If a sensor does not respond during the test: Replace the tire pressure sensor for the relevant wheel. It is probably the sensor that caused the DTC to be stored. If all sensors respond: The sensor that caused the diagnostic trouble code to be stored has probably had an intermittent malfunction. Replace the tire pressure sensor for the relevant wheel. Checking the receiver

The receiver is in the rear view mirror. It receives signals from both the remote control and tire pressure sensors. The remote control can be used to check that the receiver is working.

Check the function of the receiver by pressing the locking and unlocking button on the remote control. The vehicle must lock and unlock.

Checking the tire pressure sensors

  1. Ignition on. Each tire pressure sensor has its own ID number which is transmitted to and stored in the upper electronic module (UEM). Read off the last stored ID number by clicking on the VCT2000 symbol. The last stored ID number is displayed until a new ID number is received and stored. NOTE: The last stored value is erased when the ignition is switched off and on again. Activate one of the sensors by using the special tool: «9512987»(ref-403953-S35674831992011061500000) The special tool activates the sensor which then starts to send information to the Upper electronic module (UEM) and the sensor's id-number can then be read in the character window. NOTE: Ensure that the special tool is positioned under the edge of the rim against the tire where the sensor is installed. The sensor will not be activated if the tool is against the rim. The sensor must then be held in place for approximately 5 seconds for the signals to be correctly received. Use only one special tool at a time in the vicinity of the car. NOTE: Carry out the above in an area away from where other cars are being driven. The receiver can pick up signals from sensors on other cars. An incorrect ID number would then be displayed. Repeat this procedure for each wheel. Different ID numbers must be displayed. If a sensor does not respond during the test: Check that a tire pressure sensor is installed on the rim. Install a new sensor if there is no sensor installed. If the sensor is installed but is still not working, it may be defective or be a sensor intended for another make or model. Replace the tire pressure sensor. If all sensors respond: Intermittent fault. The control module has previously detected that one or more sensors are not communicating. This may be because the vehicle previously had a wheel mounted without a functioning sensor.

Replacing software

  1. Ignition off. The upper electronic module (UEM) has registered a fault in the configuration file. The fault may be due to a program fault. The software must be replaced.

Reading off programmed values

Note. Read off the programmed values from the upper electronic module (UEM) before re-programming.

  2. Click on the symbol for VCT2000 to read off the programmed values. The obtained values are programmed customer parameters in the upper electronic module (UEM). Downloading software

Download new software. See Interior lighting and upper electronic module (UEM), replacing .

Do not replace the control module.

HINT: If diagnostic trouble code (DTC) UEM-E001 is stored, communication with the control module cannot be established. This can be remedied in two ways.

  1. Press the remote control button for local lighting
  2. Remove fuse 11C/28 from the fusebox in the passenger compartment. Reinstall the fuse again.

Two times can be programmed for the interior lighting

1. Short

  1. The period from when the door is unlocked, or the engine stops, to when the interior lighting goes out can be changed if it is too long or too short.

2. Long

  1. The period from when the door is opened, or a lamp is lit with a switch, to when the lamp goes out can be changed if it is too long or too short.

To program a long interior lighting period you must step ("click") through the short interior lighting period programming.

The general lighting and rear reading lamps light and remain lit for 30 seconds when

  1. The door has been unlocked from outside with a key or the remote control.
  2. The engine has been stopped and the ignition key turned to 0.

The default period is 30 seconds. This can be changed to between 5 and 255 seconds.

Read off the programmed values.

To change the time, mark the desired value in the scrolling list and start programming.

Do you want to program any more parameters?

The general lighting and rear reading lamps light and remain lit for 10 minutes when

  1. A door is opened after being unlocked.
  2. The lamp is lit with a switch.

The default period is 10 minutes. This can be changed to between 0 and 255 minutes at 10 minute intervals.

Read off the programmed values.

To change the time, mark the desired value in the scrolling list and start programming.

The rear view mirror anti-dazzle function can be adjusted

  1. If the rear view mirror anti-dazzle function is too powerful or too weak, it can be adjusted.

Specific software for setting the anti-dazzle function must be installed in the car to do this.
