Electronic Climate Control (Ecc) & Heater Module (Hea) Diagnostic Trouble Codes: Wiring Volvo V40 I рестайлинг

Connecting breakout box between control module and wiring

  1. Ignition off
  2. ECC control module connected. Check the control module and the control module connector visually according to «Check terminals visually»(ref-441291-S04910850932011121500000) Connect adapter «9813194»(ref-403953-S13746433212011061000000) (only the 30-pin connector) between the ECC control module and the climate control connector. Then connect breakout box «9813190»(ref-403953-S32930552542011061000000) to the adapter. This is connection is carried out when taking readings with the control module connected. The control module terminals 1-30 correspond to terminals 1-30 on the breakout box.

Connecting breakout box to wiring only

  1. Ignition off
  2. Disconnect the ECC control module. Check the control module and the control module connector visually according to «Check terminals visually»(ref-441291-S04910850932011121500000) Connect adapter «9813194»(ref-403953-S13746433212011061000000) (only the 30-pin connector) to the climate control system connector. Then connect breakout box «9813190»(ref-403953-S32930552542011061000000) to the adapter. The breakout box is now only connected to the climate control connector. This connection is used to measure resistance in the ECC system cables and components with the ECC control module disconnected. The control module terminals 1- 30 correspond to terminals 1-30 on the breakout box.

Checking components and wiring

Check the cable between control module terminal #8 and the signal cable. Check for the flame sensor for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

HINT: It is difficult to differentiate between the ground lead for the flame sensor and the signal cable. Take readings on one cable at a time to check for a relevant value on either of them.

Replace the flame sensor if no fault is found in the cable.

Remedy as necessary.

Check the cable between control module terminal #10 and the signal terminal for the combustion fan (the black lead from the fan). Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

If no faults are found in the cable, the combustion fan must be replaced according to Replacing fuel injection nozzle, fan motor and nozzle pipe .

Remedy as necessary.

  2. Remove the heater according to «Replacing heat exchanger»(ref-441328-S04127342072011121500000) to access the combustion fan. Remove the fan shroud.
  3. With the ignition on and the combustion fan signal connection disconnected, the voltage between the combustion fan signal terminal (control module side) and ground should be approximately 0 V.

Check the cable between control module terminal #10 and the signal terminal for the combustion fan (the black lead from the fan). Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

Check the cable between control module terminal #11 and the voltage terminal for the combustion fan (the red cable from the fan). Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

If no faults are found in the wiring, the combustion fan must be replaced according to Replacing fuel injection nozzle, fan motor and nozzle pipe .

Note. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) HEA-821 water pump signal and/or diagnostic trouble code (DTC) HEA-825 fuel pump (FP), signal can be stored in case of faults in the power cable.

Remedy as necessary.

Note. On cars where the heater functions as a parking heater there is no +15 voltage supply to the control module. Individual components and functions cannot be activated when the +15 voltage supply is absent.

Check the cable between control module terminal #12 and water pump terminal 1 for a short-circuit. Check to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

The water pump must be replaced if no faults are found in the cable.

Remedy as necessary.

Check the cable between control module terminal #12 and water pump terminal 1. Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

Check the cable between control module terminal #11 and water pump terminal 2. Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

The water pump must be changed if no fault is found on the cable.

Note. If there is a fault in the power supply cable, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) HEA-815 Combustion fan, signal and/or HEA-825 Fuel pump (FP), signal may be stored.

Remedy as necessary.

HINT: The fuel pump (FP) is installed in the fuel tank instead of on the heater when the additional heater is also used as a parking heater.

Check the cable between control module terminal #13 and fuel pump (FP) terminal 2. Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults .

The fuel pump (FP) must be replaced if no faults are found in the cable.

Remedy as necessary.

Check the cable between control module terminal #13 and fuel pump (FP) terminal 2. Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Check the cable between control module terminal #11 and fuel pump (FP) terminal 1. Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults .

Replace the fuel pump (FP) if no fault is found in the wiring.

Note. If there is a fault in the power supply cable, diagnostic trouble code (DTC) HEA-815 Combustion fan, signal and/or HEA-822 Water pump, signal may be stored.

Remedy as necessary.

Check the cable between control module terminal #1 and the glow plug terminal. Check for an open-circuit according to Open-circuit, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to ground according to Short-circuit to ground, permanent faults . Check for a short-circuit to supply voltage according to Short-circuit to supply voltage. Permanent faults .

Replace the glow plug if no fault is found in the cable.

Remedy as necessary.
