SERVICE INTERVALS

Check fluid level at every engine oil change. Replace fluid and oil screen every 150,000 miles.

DRAINING & REFILLING

CAUTIONEngine must NOT be started and vehicle must NOT be towed without ATF fluid in transmission.

Note. ATF should only be replaced when engine and transmission are cold.

Scheme 51

Scheme 51: Automatic Transmission

Scheme 52

Scheme 52
  1. Raise and support vehicle. See «DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL»(ref-170237-S11218705722005011200000). Remove engine guard. see scheme 2 Place oil collection pan under transmission. Remove drain plug (B). see scheme 3 Drain ATF. Install ATF drain plug (B) with NEW sealing ring. Tighten to 21 ft. lbs. (28 N.m).
  2. Disconnect connection on charge air cooler, by removing locking clip (1). (Scheme 52) Pull off line. Disconnect lead of ambient air valve module (2), by removing spring band clamp, and pull off line. Disconnect suction line from engine, by removing locking clip (arrow). see scheme 8 Pull off line.
  3. Undo ATF line screw connection, on cooler side (arrow) at thermostat. see scheme 9 Counter when releasing ATF lines. Remove screw connection of ATF thermostat holder (arrow). see scheme 10
  4. Hold shop-made tool discharge chute, under ATF thermostat. see scheme 11 Drain ATF from ATF cooler.
  5. Tighten ATF line screw connection on cooler side (arrow) at thermostat. see scheme 9 Counter when fastening ATF lines. Install screw connection of ATF thermostat holder (arrow). see scheme 10 Tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N.m).
  6. Connection suction line to engine, by inserting clocking clip (arrow). see scheme 8 Push line on until it engages. Connect lead of ambient air valve module (2), by fitting spring band clamp. (Scheme 52) Connect lead. Insert locking clip (1) on charge air cooler suction line, and push line on until it engages.
  7. Remove ATF inspection plug (A). see scheme 3 Only part of total change quantity can be filled due to test specifications stipulated for ATF. Remaining fluid must be filled as describing in checking ATF. See «CHECKING FLUID LEVEL»(ref-170237-S15040370352005010700000).
  8. Fill with ATF using special tool oil filler for ATF, until fluid emerges at lifting pipe. Fill approximately 9 qts. (8.5 L). Install oil inspection plug with NEW sealing ring. Tighten to 52 ft. lbs. (70 N.m). Check ATF level. See «CHECKING FLUID LEVEL»(ref-170237-S15040370352005010700000). Install engine guard.

All-Wheel Final Drive

Note. All-wheel final drive is front differential.

  1. Raise and support vehicle. See «DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL»(ref-170237-S11218705722005011200000). Remove engine guard. see scheme 2 Place oil collection pan under all-wheel final drive. Remove oil drain plug (B). see scheme 4
  2. Install oil drain plug with NEW sealing ring. Tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 N.m).
  3. Remove oil inspection plug (A), using special inserts (Model AB 170) tool. Fill with oil to lower edge of inspection plug (A), using ATF filling device for filling transmission. Install oil inspection plug (A) with NEW sealing ring.
  4. Using special tool, with special inserts model AB 170, and accessory for torque wrench, open ring wrench insert a/f 13 with adapter 98-1. see scheme 5 Tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 N.m).
