Test Conditions WITHOUT Opening Cooler Lines
- ATF cooler was not opened between thermostat and ATF cooler. For example: Transmission changed, sealing ring replaced on transmission, ATF filter replaced, general checks.
- Warm up transmission in lower load range. Switch all transmission ranges several times while doing so.
- Read out ATF pump temperature using Porsche System Tester 2.
- ATF temperature is 104° F (40° C).
- Selector lever is in position "P".
- Test and filling process at idle speed.
Test Conditions AFTER Opening Cooler Lines
- ATF cooler line was opened between thermostat and ATF cooler. For example: ATF replaced, ATF line change, ATF cooler replaced, ATF thermostat replaced.
- Warm up transmission in lower load range. Switch all transmission ranges several times while doing so.
- Read out ATF pump temperature using Porsche System Tester 2.
- ATF temperature must have reached 194° F (90° C). (coolant circuit open)
- Allow ATF to cool to 104° F (40° C).
- Selector lever is in position "P".
- Test and filling process at idle speed.
| WARNING | Wear protective equipment (e.g. safety goggles, gloves), there is a danger of scalding from hot ATF. |
Scheme 2
- Raise and support vehicle. See «DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL»(ref-170237-S11218705722005011200000). Ensure vehicle is horizontal. Secure vehicle to prevent from rolling away. Remove engine guard. (Scheme 2)
- Note test conditions. See «Test Conditions WITHOUT Opening Cooler Lines»(ref-170237-S24457189912005010700000) or «Test Conditions AFTER Opening Cooler Lines»(ref-170237-S30832749402005010700000). Move selector lever to position "P", and continue test process at idle speed.
- Loosen oil inspection plug (A), only when temperature reached 104° F (40° C). (Scheme 3) Remove oil inspection plug (A). When removing oil inspection plug, always ensure that no oil escapes. This is caused by remaining oil on plug in lifting tube.
- Oil level is correct when oil emerges at lifting tube. If oil does not emerge, top off fluid level. Fill with ATF using oil filler for ATF, until fluid emerges at lifting pipe. Install oil inspection plug. Tighten to 52 ft. lbs. (70 N.m). Move selector lever to position "P", and turn engine off. Install engine guard.
All-Wheel Final Drive
Note. All-wheel final drive is front differential.
Scheme 3
- Raise and support vehicle. See «DISABLING/ENABLING ELECTRONIC LEVEL CONTROL»(ref-170237-S11218705722005011200000). Ensure vehicle is horizontal to check oil level in all-wheel drive final drive. Remove engine guard. (Scheme 2)
- Using an open-box wrench (arrow), remove oil inspection plug (A). (Scheme 4)
- Oil level is correct if oil reaches lower edge of inspection window. If oil does not reach, top off oil. Using ATF filling device for filling transmission, fill oil to lower edge of inspection plug (A). Install oil inspection plug (A) with NEW sealing ring. (Scheme 4)
- Using special tool, with special inserts model AB 170, and accessory for torque wrench, open ring wrench insert a/f 13 with adapter 98-1. see scheme 5 Tighten to 26 ft. lbs. (35 N.m).
