Engine Control Unit, Remove and Install
Disconnect ground cable from battery - see operation "Battery Ground Cable, Disconnect and Connect" in Group "N".
Remove cruise control unit (2) from holder and put to rear.
Disconnect coolant hose (1) from coolant compensation tank - collect coolant.
Remove clamp (arrow) for coolant compensation tank on air deflector panel. Detach coolant compensation (5) tank from dome strut and body.
Pull wiring harness plug (6) off coolant compensation tank.
Remove retaining bolts (3) and (4). Remove dome strut.
Remove air cleaner housing upper part - 1 clip.
Remove engine control unit and transmission control unit from air cleaner housing lower part.
Push locking bar (1) back from engine control unit wiring harness plug and pull clip (2) upwards. Pull off wiring harness plug.
Pull locking bar (3) upwards from transmission control unit wiring harness plug and pull off wiring harness plug.
Remove control units.
Detach engine control unit (1) from holder - 2 retaining bolts (arrows).
Vehicle data must be programmed into the new engine control unit using TECH 2 - see relevant work steps in Checking Procedures. New engine control unit must be labelled with calibration code of faulty engine control unit prior to installation.
Insert transmission control unit (2) into holder. Place engine control unit on transmission control unit and fasten to holder using 2 retaining screws - 2 Nm.
Connect wiring harness plugs to both control units and lock. Insert control units with holder into air cleaner housing.
Attach air cleaner housing upper part to air cleaner housing lower part.
Attach dome strut to spring strut dome and air deflector panel - 3 retaining bolts.
Tightening torque: dome strut to spring strut dome 47 Nm, dome strut to air deflector panel 25 Nm.
Connect wiring harness plug to coolant compensation tank.
Attach coolant compensation tank to dome strut and body. Fasten coolant compensation tank to air deflector panel with clamp.
Attach coolant hose to coolant compensation tank.
Attach cruise control unit to holder - 1 retaining bolt.
Connect ground cable - see operation "Battery Ground Cable, Disconnect and Connect" in Group "N".
Fill up cooling system - see operations "Cooling System, Fill and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
