How to Replace the Crankshaft Opel Senator B

Crankshaft, Replace

Remove engine with transmission.

See corresponding operation.

Mount engine using KM - 412 - 4 on Engine Overhaul Stand KM - 412.

Unflange transmission.

Drain engine oil.

Remove cylinder head.

See corresponding operation.

Remove visco fan.

Important:

Left-hand thread!

Release tension on V -belt of oil pump for power steering and remove.

Unscrew oil pump together with retainer (arrows).

On vehicles with air conditioning:

Unscrew oil pump and compressor along with retainer.

Release tension in V -belt and remove.

Remove ground cable for alternator to cylinder block.

Turn alternator downwards and remove together with bracket.

Remove high voltage distributor.

Illus. shows distributor of C 30 NE engine.

Lock flywheel using Locking Device KM - 139 - A or KM - 652.

Remove crankshaft pulley.

Remove water pump.

Unscrew chain tensioner.

Remove timing gear case.

Remove oil pan.

Remove helical gear for high voltage distributor drive.

Remove timing chain with camshaft timing gear.

Mark chain on front end so that direction of pull is retained.

Disconnect crankshaft timing gear.

Use with suitable pressure block (1).

Mark pressure plate and flywheel (arrow) for identification.

Remove clutch assembly, see corresponding

operation in group K.

Mark installation position of positioning screw, identified by "P" (arrow).

Remove flywheel or flex plate.

Mark con - rod cap beginning with "1" on the water pump side.

Remove oil pump intake pipe.

Unscrew all crankshaft and con -rod caps.

Lift crankshaft from engine block.

Remove seal ring from crankshaft.

Remove all con -rod bearing shells.

Put new bearing shells into cylinder block and insert bearing caps and oil.

Ensure that correct bearing shells (selection and oversize) are used.

See "Technical Data".

Lay new crankshaft in bearings.

Ensure good seating in bearings by tapping crank arm lightly with a rubber hammer.

Coat inner surfaces (1) of rear bearing cap with Sealing Agent 15 04 200 - 08 983 368..P. D7327.tif97,5tiff;;

Apply bead of Sealing Compound 15 03 294 - 90 001 851 approx. 6 mm/0.2362 in. in diameter to left and right groove of bearing cap.

When doing this, ensure that joint especially is well filled with compound.

Important:

After mounting bearing cap, press downwards

again on Sealing Compound until it comes out of joints.

Position all bearing caps and initially tighten.

Mount shaft seal ring of rear crankshaft bearing using KM-235, KM-235-01 and KM-235-4, see corresponding operation.

Install oil pump intake pipe.

Tightly screw crankshaft bearing cover - torque 110 Nm/80 lbf. ft.

Tightly screw con - rod caps - torque 45 Nm/32.5 lbf ft.

Install flywheel or flex plate.

Insert screws with Locking Compound 15 10 177 (90 167 347).

Screws must be recut before being used again.

With microencapsulation use new screws.

Note positioning screw "P".

Lock flywheel or flex plate using KM - 139 - A.

Tighten screws - torque 60 Nm/43 lbf. ft.

Mount clutch assembly, see corresponding operation in group K..P. C5964.tif97,5tiff;;

Drive crankshaft timing gear up to stop on crankshaft using suitable piece of pipe.

Mount timing chain with camshaft timing gear.

Install timing gear case.

Install waterpump.

Install crankshaft pulley - observe prescribed torque 120 Nm/87 lbf. ft.

Install oil pan.

Install cylinder head.

Install high voltage distributor.

Install alternator.

Install oil pump for power steering.

On vehicles with air conditioning:

Install compressor.
