Subject: Copper Core Spark Plugs

Models: All with Gasoline Engine

As of Model Year '87 all vehicles with gasoline engine are being factory equipped with copper-core spark plugs. IN comparison to the previous standard spark plugs (Chrome-Nickel-electrode) these spark plugs have the following advantages:

- minimum electrode erosion

- better self cleaning

- longer life expectancy

Identification of the factory installed copper-core spark plugs:

CR 42 CFS - OHV and CIH engines

CR 42 CXLS - OHC engines

New ® CR 42 CXLSX - only C 16 LZ engine (electrode gap 1.1 mm/.043 in.)

P & A distributes the OPEL-brand copper-core spark plugs as follows:

Catalog No. 12 14 801 - OHV and CIH engines

Catalog No. 12 14 802 - OHC engines

New ® Catalog No. 12 14 803 - only C 16 LZ engine (electrode gap 1.1 mm/.043 in)

Copper-core spark plugs must also be checked during every 2nd Annual Inspection and be replaced, if necessary.

In order to prevent possible damage, the spark plugs must be installed with the Torque Limiter, Catalog No. 17 57 060.

Torque = 20 Nm/14.5 ft.lbs.
