Hydraulic-Pneumatic Engine Damping Blocks Opel Omega B

The engine damping blocks in the Omega-B with Y 25 DT engine can be modified in terms of their damping properties using a hydraulic-pneumatic system.

The hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks of the Omega-B with Y 25 DT engine retain a softer or stiffer damping characteristic by means of underpressure.

As a result, the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the body can be influenced in a targeted manner.

Using the hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks, the natural resonance of the engine, caused by uneven road surfaces, can be reduced in a targeted manner and this leads to increased driving comfort.

The system of hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks comprises:

  • two engine bearings whose damping properties can be controlled (hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks)
  • an electro-magnetic switchover valve
  • a control unit.

The hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks are actuated using underpressure.

In the basic position, there is no underpressure at the hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks.

In this state the hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks act like conventional hydraulic bearings, they have a stiff damping characteristic.

By providing an underpressure at the bearing control element, the spring force is reduced so that the hydraulic-pneumatic engine damping blocks then have a softer damping characteristic than conventional hydraulic bearings.

The underpressure required for actuating the bearings is taken from a distributor in the vacuum line between the vacuum pump and the brake servo.

At idle speed and in the range close to idle speed, an underpressure is applied to both bearings simultaneously.

As a result, a softer damping is set.
