Note. Before adjusting the timings, the timings must be checked – see operation "Timing, Check".
Engine is locked in 1st cylinder ign. TDC position with KM-813 .
Remove
- 1. Remove vacuum pump – see operation "Vacuum Pump, Remove and Install".
- 2. Remove torx bolts (1) and (2), then insert new torx bolts – when releasing, counterhold at hex on camshafts.
Install
- 3. Screw in torx bolts to the stop – it must still be possible to twist the sprockets toward the camshaft.
Adjust
- 4. Position peg gauge (2) from KM-6267 onto intake camshaft (1) and align intake camshaft until peg gauge rests on cylinder head without any gap (arrows).
- 5. Secure peg gauge from KM-6267 with hold-down positioner from KM-6267 .
- 6. Tighten Torx bolt (5) for intake camshaft sprocket – counterhold at hex of intake camshaft – tightening torque 20 Nm /15 lbf. ft. + 35°.
- 7. Position peg gauge from KM-6267 onto exhaust camshaft (3) and align exhaust camshaft until peg gauge rests on cylinder head without any gap.
- 8. Secure peg gauge from KM-6267 with hold-down positioner from KM-6267 .
- 9. Tighten torx bolt (4) for exhaust camshaft sprocket – counterhold at hex of exhaust camshaft – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. + 35°.
- 10. Take peg gauge (1) from KM-6267 off exhaust camshaft. Remove, detach
- 11. Pull KM-813 (2) out of bore in drive disc / flywheel.
Adjust
- 12. With KM-6269 at torsional vibration damper hub, turn crankshaft 720° in engine rotational direction until KM-813 latches into bore for drive disc / flywheel.
Important. Important:
- 13. Ensure that for vehicles with automatic transmission, the test drift does not latch into the depressions in the fastening bolts of the converter.
Inspect
- 14. Position peg gauge from KM-6267 on intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft – peg gauge from KM-6267 must rest against cylinder head (arrows) without any gap.
Note. If peg gauge from KM-6267 does not rest on cylinder head without any gap, the operation must be repeated.
Remove
- 15. Detach peg gauge and hold-down positioner from KM-6267 .
- 16. Pull KM-813 out of bore in drive disc / flywheel.
Install
- 17. Attach closure plugs to cylinder block.
- 18. Install vacuum pump – see operation "Vacuum Pump, Remove and Install".
- 19. Install cylinder head cover – see operation "Cylinder Head Cover, Remove and Install".
