Removal Procedure
- Remove the starter, if equipped with a manual transmission. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .
- Remove the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
- Install the J 43653 (1) to the engine block in order to hold the flywheel.
- It may be necessary to remove the chamfer (bevel) from the edge of an 18 mm socket in order to get full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.
- Do not orientate the flywheel to the crankshaft. It is balanced separately from the engine.
- Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.
- Remove the flywheel bolts, if equipped with a manual transmission.
- Remove the flywheel.
- Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes. Use a nylon bristle brush to clean the holes in the crankshaft.
Installation Procedure
- Install the flywheel, if equipped with a manual transmission.
- Install the flywheel bolts.
- Install the flywheel if equipped with an automatic transmission.
- Install the flywheel bolts.
- Remove the J 43653 (1) from the engine block.
- Install the clutch, if equipped. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
- Install the starter, if equipped with a manual transmission. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .
