Check Crankshaft Alignment (Z 16 SE) Opel Combo C

OHC Petrol Engine 8 illustrations ~716 words
  1. 1. Condition: engine dismantled
  2. 2. Insert 10 crankshaft bearing shells • Observe marking and allocation. • Observe position of axial bearing • In cylinder block, crankshaft bearing cap
  3. 3. Insert crankshaft • Into cylinder block
  4. 4. Attach 5 crankshaft bearing caps • Observe marking and allocation. • Tighten 10 bolts – Tightening torque 50 Nm + 45° + 15°

Note. Bolts do not have to be replaced when crankshaft alignment is being checked.

  1. 5. Attach MKM-571-B • Install MKM-571-B in bracket • Attach bracket to cylinder block on transmission side
  1. 6. Adjust MKM-571-B • Attach probe to crankshaft flange • Attach MKM-571-B under pre-tension • Set MKM-571-B to "0"
  2. 7. Measure crankshaft end play • Slide crankshaft • Read off test value

Note. Repeat measurement several times. For permitted crankshaft end play see "Technical Data - crank drive, cylinder block".

  1. 8. Remove MKM-571-B
  2. 9. Remove 5 crankshaft bearing caps • Unscrew 10 bolts
  3. 10. Attach MKM-571-B • Attach to cylinder block with bracket
  4. 11. Adjust MKM-571-B • Attach probe to crankshaft bearing journal • Attach MKM-571-B under pre-tension • Set MKM-571-B to "0"
  5. 12. Measure crankshaft concentricity deviation • Turn crankshaft evenly • Read off test value

Note. For permitted crankshaft concentricity deviation see "Technical Data - crank drive, cylinder block".

  1. 13. Remove MKM-571-B
  2. 14. Remove crankshaft
  3. 15. Measure crankshaft bearing journal diameter (5 measurements) • Measure at 2 places per bearing using micrometer gauge

Note. Note dimensions - if a dimension is outside the permitted tolerance, crankshaft must be ground or replaced.

  1. 16. Attach 5 crankshaft bearing caps • Observe marking and allocation. • Tighten 10 bolts – Tightening torque 50 Nm + 45° + 15°

Note. Bolts do not have to be replaced when crankshaft alignment is being checked.

  1. 17. Attach internal measuring instrument • Install appropriate probe tip in internal measuring instrument – Install MKM-571-B in internal measuring instrument with pre-tension of approx. 1 mm • Slide internal measuring instrument between micrometer gauge test surfaces • Determine indicator turning point – Oscillate internal measuring instrument between test surfaces – Set MKM-571-B to "0" at turning point
  1. 18. Measure crankshaft bearing bore diameter (10 measurements) • Determine turning point in 2 places (I + II) per bearing – Oscillate internal measuring instrument in crankshaft bearing bore • Note dimensions
  1. 19. Calculate crankshaft bearing play (5 times)

Note. The crankshaft bearing play is calculated on the basis of the differing diameters of the crankshaft bearing bore and the crankshaft bearing bearing journal. For permitted crankshaft bearing play see "Technical Data - crank drive, cylinder block".

  1. 20. Remove 5 crankshaft bearing caps • Unscrew 10 bolts
  2. 21. Remove 10 crankshaft bearing shells
  3. 22. Measure diameter of 4 con-rod journals • Measure in 2 places (I, II) using micrometer gauge

Note. Note dimensions - if a dimension is outside the permitted tolerance, crankshaft must be ground or replaced.

  1. 23. Insert 8 con-rod bearing shells • Observe marking and allocation. • In con-rod, con-rod bearing cap
  2. 24. Attach 4 con-rod bearing caps • Observe marking and allocation. • Tighten 8 bolts – Tightening torque 10 Nm + 60°

Important. The mating surfaces of the cod-rods and con-rod bearing caps form an individual fit and must not be damaged or interchanged. Do not lay on mating surfaces.

Note. Bolts do not have to be replaced when con-rod bearing play is being measured.

  1. 25. Reconfigure internal measuring device • Remove probe tip • Install appropriate probe tip in internal measuring instrument – Install MKM-571-B in internal measuring instrument with pre-tension of approx. 1 mm • Slide internal measuring instrument between micrometer gauge test surfaces • Determine indicator turning point – Oscillate internal measuring instrument between test surfaces – Set MKM-571-B to "0" at turning point
  2. 26. Measure diameter of 4 con-rod bearing bores • Determine turning point in 2 places (I, II) – Oscillate internal probe in con-rod bearing bore • Note dimensions
  1. 27. Calculate con-rod bearing play (4 times)

Note. The con-rod bearing play is calculated on the basis of the differing sizes of the crankshaft bearing bore and the crankshaft bearing journal. For permitted con-rod bearing play see "Technical Data - crank drive, cylinder block".

  1. 28. Remove 4 con-rod bearing caps
  2. 29. Remove 8 con-rod bearing shells
  3. 30. Remove internal measuring instrument
