Note. Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces. To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion. Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring, hoses, or interfere with other parts. Engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) must be used with the side engine mount installed.

  1. Remove the hood support rod, then use it as shown to prop the hood in the wide-open position.
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(ref-333562-S16159631292009072100000) ).
  3. Drain the power steering fluid (see «FLUID REPLACEMENT»(ref-333571-S37821406662009072100000) ).
  4. Remove the bulkhead cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-333593-S12466888562009072100000) ).
  5. Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333608-S42868124562009072100000) ).
  6. Remove the engine cover (see «IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333546-S38274197062009072100000) ).
  7. Disconnect the breather pipe (A), then remove the intake air duct (B).
  8. Remove the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).
  9. Remove the harness clamps (A), and the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box (B), then remove the battery base (C).
  10. Remove the harness clamps (A), then disconnect the positive starter cable (B).
  11. Disconnect the starter sub-harness connector.
  12. Remove the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-333568-S07117893332009072100000) ). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
  13. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(ref-333562-S35569173912009072100000) ).
  14. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A), and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (B).
  15. Remove the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL»(ref-333571-S30479083692009072100000) ).
  16. Remove the steering joint cover (see step 8 on «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333571-S10288250872009072100000) ).
  17. Remove the steering joint from the steering gearbox pinion shaft (see step 11 on «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333571-S10288250872009072100000) ).
  18. Remove the harness clamps (A), then disconnect the positive alternator cable (B) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
  19. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) cover (A).
  20. Remove the harness clamps (A), then disconnect the two PCM connectors (B) and the engine wire harness connector (C).
  21. Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(ref-333547-S39082279042009072100000) ).
  22. Remove the power steering (P/S) pump inlet hose (A) and the P/S pump outlet hose (B) from the P/S pump, then plug the P/S lines and the P/S pump.
  23. Remove the P/S hose bracket (C) from the rear cylinder head cover.
  24. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.
  25. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  26. Remove the front wheels.
  27. Remove the splash shield (see «SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(ref-333594-S31882515052009072100000) ).
  28. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, and drain the engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(ref-333555-S24547779662009072100000) ).
  29. Drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-333568-S25714344582009072100000) ).
  30. Drain the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(ref-333553-S35525073332009072100000) ).
  31. Remove the front sub-frame stiffener.
  32. Remove exhaust pipe A.
  33. Separate the tie-rod end ball joints from the knuckles (see step 3 on «KNUCKLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-333573-S41639788552009072100000) ).
  34. Remove the driveshafts (see «FRONT DRIVESHAFT REMOVAL»(ref-333570-S23659462772009072100000) ). Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil. Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.
  35. 4WD model: Remove the transfer assembly (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL»(ref-333568-S05776975342009072100000) ).
  36. Disconnect the P/S hose (A) and the ATF cooler hoses (B), then plug the lines and the hoses.
  37. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch connector.
  38. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  39. Remove the radiator (see «RADIATOR AND FAN REPLACEMENT»(ref-333555-S21535150732009072100000) ).
  40. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).
  41. Remove the connector bracket (A) from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.
  42. Remove the harness clamp bracket (A) from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033).
  43. Remove the cowl top side cover (A) from both sides.
  44. With the A and Reds engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) on its side, insert the hanger beam (B) through the opening, then rotate it over the damper (C).
  45. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a spacers (B) and the bolt (10 x 1.25 mm) (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033) Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (D).
  46. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (E) by hand to lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead. AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bar.
  47. Disconnect the front engine mount actuator connector (A) and the harness clamps (B). Remove the front engine mount stop (C), then remove the front engine mount bolt (D).
  48. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  49. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the A/C compressor (B) without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
  50. Remove the lower transmission mount bolts (A) and the ground cable (B).
  51. Remove the rear engine mount bolts (A) and disconnect the rear engine mount actuator connector (B).
  52. Attach the front sub-frame adapter (VSB02C000016) to the sub-frame by hanging the belt (A) over the front of the sub-frame (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
  53. Raise the jack and line up the slots on the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
  54. Remove the six 12 x 1.25 mm bolts (A) securing the sub-frame stiffeners (B), the four sub-frame mounting bolts (C), and the stiffeners, then lower the front sub-frame (D).
  55. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  56. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hanger (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist, and remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger balance bar.
  57. Remove the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket.
  58. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of vacuum, fuel and coolant hoses, and electrical wiring.
  59. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (6 in.). Check once again that all hoses and electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it.
  60. Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.
  61. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.

  1. Install the engine mount bracket and the accessory brackets, then tighten their bolts to the specified torque.
  2. Position the engine/transmission under the vehicle. Be sure that they are properly aligned. Carefully lower the vehicle until the engine/transmission are properly positioned in the engine compartment. Make sure the vehicle is not resting on any part of the engine/transmission. Support the engine/transmission with a chain hoist (A) and carefully raise the engine/transmission into place. NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps. Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life.
  3. Remove the cowl top side lid (A) from both sides. A AAR-T1256
  4. With the A and Reds engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) on its side, insert the hanger beam (B) through the opening, then rotate it over the damper (C).
  5. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and the (10 x 1.25 mm) bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a bolt (8 x 1.25 mm) (D).
  6. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (E) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission. NOTE: Be careful when working around the windshield. Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead. AAR-T1256 two sets required for attaching additional cross section bar.
  7. Install the new mounting bolts into the upper half of the side engine mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
  8. Remove the chain hoist, then raise the vehicle on the lift.
  9. Using the subframe adapter (VSB20C000016) and a jack, raise the front subframe up to the body.
  10. Loosely tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt (A); insert the 15.7 mm side of the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning hole (B) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the subframe, and into the positioning hole (D) on the body, then tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt.
  11. Loosely install the right rear sub-frame mounting bolt with the same procedure as the left rear using the sub-frame alignment pin.
  12. Loosely install the right and left front sub-frame mounting bolts (A) and stiffener mounting bolts (B).
  13. Tighten the rear-driver's side sub-frame mounting bolt (A) to the specified torque.
  14. Tighten the rear-passenger's side sub-frame mounting bolt (B) to the specified torque.
  15. Tighten the front sub-frame mounting bolts (C) to the specified torque. NOTE: Check all of the front sub-frame mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary.
  16. Tighten the front and rear stiffener mounting bolts (D) to the specified torque. NOTE: Before tightening the stiffener mounting bolts, check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the sub-frame alignment pin.
  17. Remove the jack and the subframe adapter.
  18. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  19. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the attachment arm, then install the cowl top side lids on both sides.
  20. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  21. Tighten the rear engine mount bolts (A), and connect the rear engine mount actuator connector (B).
  22. Tighten the lower transmission mount bolts (A) and the ground cable (B).
  23. Install the A/C compressor (A), then connect the A/C compressor clutch connector (B).
  24. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  25. Tighten the front engine mount bolt (A), then install the front engine mount stop (B). Connect the front engine mount actuator connector (C) and the harness clamps (D).
  26. Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque.
  27. Install the radiator (see «RADIATOR AND FAN REPLACEMENT»(ref-333555-S21535150732009072100000) ).
  28. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
  29. Connect the power steering pressure switch connector.
  30. Install the power steering (P/S) hose (A) and the ATF cooler hoses (B). NOTE: Check the installation location of the ATF cooler hose clamps (see «ATF COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT»(ref-333568-S24092226122009072100000) ).
  31. 4WD model: Install the transfer assembly (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION»(ref-333568-S10584817662009072100000) ).
  32. Wipe the driveshaft clean. Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts (see «FRONT DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION»(ref-333570-S41037587502009072100000) ). Make sure each ring "clicks" into place in the differential and the intermediate shaft.
  33. Connect the tie-rod end ball joints to the knuckles (see step 3 on «KNUCKLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-333573-S41639788552009072100000) ).
  34. Install exhaust pipe A using new gaskets (B) and new self-locking nuts (C). Tighten the nuts to the specified torque.
  35. Install the front sub-frame stiffener using new bolts.
  36. Install the splash shield (see «SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(ref-333594-S31882515052009072100000) ).
  37. Install the front wheels.
  38. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
  39. Install the connector bracket (A) to the front cylinder head.
  40. Install the harness clamp bracket (A) to the rear cylinder head.
  41. Connect the heater hoses (A).
  42. Install the P/S pump outlet hose (A) using a new O-ring (B), and install the P/S pump inlet hose (C).
  43. Install the P/S hose bracket (D) to the rear cylinder head cover.
  44. Install the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(ref-333547-S39082279042009072100000) ).
  45. Connect the powertrain control module (PCM) connectors (A) and the engine wire harness connector (B), then install the harness clamps (C).
  46. Install the PCM cover (A).
  47. Connect the positive alternator cable (A) to the under-hood fuse/relay box, then install the harness clamps (B).
  48. Install the steering joint to the steering gearbox pinion shaft (see step 4 on «INSTALLATION»(ref-333571-S41698220832009072100000) ).
  49. Install the steering joint cover (see step 6 on «INSTALLATION»(ref-333571-S41698220832009072100000) ).
  50. Install the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION»(ref-333571-S37732073232009072100000) ).
  51. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (B).
  52. Connect the fuel feed hose (A) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(ref-333562-S07004954342009072100000) ), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B).
  53. Install the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(ref-333568-S07117893332009072100000) ).
  54. Connect the starter sub-harness connector.
  55. Connect the positive starter cable (A), then install the harness clamps (B).
  56. Install the battery base (A), then install the harness clamps (B) and the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box (C).
  57. Install the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).
  58. Install the intake air duct (A), then connect the breather pipe (B). NOTE: When tightening the screw of the hose band (C), align the edge of the hose band (D) with the mark (E) painted on the hose band. If you tighten the screw over the mark, replace the hose band.
  59. Install the engine cover (see «IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333546-S38274197062009072100000) ).
  60. Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333608-S42868124562009072100000) ).
  61. Install the bulkhead cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD COVER REPLACEMENT»(ref-333593-S12466888562009072100000) ).
  62. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.
  63. Refill the engine with engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(ref-333553-S35525073332009072100000) ).
  64. Refill the transmission with ATF (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(ref-333568-S25714344582009072100000) ).
  65. Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch.
  66. Refill the reservoir with power steering fluid (see «FLUID REPLACEMENT»(ref-333571-S37821406662009072100000) ).
  67. Refill the radiator with engine coolant (see step 11 on «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(ref-333555-S19429433502009072100000) ).
  68. Do the power steering system bleeding procedure (see step 6 on «FLUID REPLACEMENT»(ref-333571-S37821406662009072100000) ).
  69. Do the cooling system bleeding procedure (see step 13 on «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(ref-333555-S19429433502009072100000) ).
  70. Check for fluid leaks.
  71. Do the PCM reset procedure (see «IF THE MIL DID NOT STAY ON»(ref-333557-S34760717652009072100000) ).
  72. Do «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-333561-S36442749152009072100000) .
  73. Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(ref-333557-S25100768752009072100000) ).
  74. Inspect the idle speed (see «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(ref-333561-S36063228922009072100000) ).
  75. Inspect the ignition timing (see «IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION»(ref-333546-S36644467332009072100000) ).
  76. Check the wheel alignment (see «WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(ref-333572-S15020653992009072100000) ).

  1. Remove the radiator (see «RADIATOR AND FAN REPLACEMENT»(ref-333555-S21535150732009072100000) ).
  2. Support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the engine/transmission.
  3. Disconnect the front engine mount actuator connector (A).
  4. Remove the front engine mount stop (B), then remove the front engine mount bolt (C).
  5. Remove the front engine mount (A).

  1. Install the front engine mount (A).

  1. Remove the rear warm up three way catalytic converter (rear WU-TWC) (see «WARM UP TWC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333564-S29204868182009072100000) ).
  2. Remove the heat shield.
  3. Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the engine/transmission.
  4. Disconnect the rear engine mount actuator connector (A).
  5. Remove the rear engine mount stop (B), then remove the rear engine mount bolt (C).
  6. Remove the rear engine mount (A).

  1. Install the rear engine mount (A).
