Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION (+).
Scheme 453
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check ECT SENSOR 2 in the DATA LIST with the HAS. Is about 356 °F (180 °C) or more, or 0.08 V or less indicated? YES -Go to next step. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 2 and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the ECT sensor 2 2P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check ECT SENSOR 2 in the DATA LIST with the HAS. Is about 356 °F (180 °C) or more, or 0.08 V or less indicated? YES -Go to next step. NO -Go to step 11 .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HAS.
- Disconnect PCM connector A (49P).
- Check for continuity between ECT sensor 2 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between ECT sensor 2 and the PCM (A21), then go to step 13 . NO -Go to step 18 .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Replace ECT sensor 2 (see «ECT SENSOR 2 REPLACEMENT»(ref-360080-S33241050012010042600000) (+).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HAS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-360079-S22847966492010042600000) (+).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HAS. Is DTC P2184 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 2 and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-360080-S11980508702010042600000) (+) or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-360056-S32194616542010042600000) (+).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HAS. Is DTC P2184 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at ECT sensor 2 and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-360056-S32194616542010042600000) (+) then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-360080-S27881728262010042600000) (+). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
