DTC P050A: Cold Start Idle Air Control System Performance Problem
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Are any Pending or Confirmed DTCs other than P050A indicated? YES -Go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -Go to step 3.
- Check for a blocked or an incorrectly installed intake air duct. Is it OK? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Reconnect or repair the intake air duct, then go to step 19 .
- Check for damage at the air cleaner housing. Is it OK? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Replace the air cleaner housing (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(ref-512902-S06198685672012110400000) ), then go to step 19 .
- Check for dirt or debris in the air cleaner element. Is it dirty? YES -Replace the air cleaner element or remove the debris (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(ref-512902-S06198685672012110400000) ), then go to step 19 . NO -Go to step 6.
- Let the engine cool until the value of ECT SENSOR 1 is 122°F(50°C) or less.
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds or more.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P050A in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate FAILED? YES -Go to step 10. NO -If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, and the PCM. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep idling until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 6 .
- Do the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL VALVE normal? YES -Go to step 11. NO -Replace the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-512914-S27009668942012110400000) ), then go to step 19 .
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- While holding the engine speed at 2, 500 rpm for 30 seconds, check the MAF SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is there about 6.5-9.1 g/s? YES -Go to step 13. NO -Replace the MAF sensor/IAT sensor (see «MAF SENSOR/IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S04701607362012110400000) ), then go to step 19 .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Allow the engine to cool to the ambient temperature.
- Note the ambient temperature.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Quickly note the value of the IAT SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
- Compare the value of the IAT SENSOR and the ambient temperature. Does the value of the IAT SENSOR differ 5.4 °F (3 °C) or more from the ambient temperature? YES -Replace the MAF sensor/IAT sensor (see «MAF SENSOR/IAT SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S04701607362012110400000) ), then go to step 19. NO -Check for dirt, carbon, or damage in the throttle bore. If there is dirt or carbon, clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-512914-S16029622042012110400000) ), then go to step 19. If there is damage in the throttle bore, replace the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-512914-S27009668942012110400000) ), then go to step 19.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Let the engine cool until the value of ECT SENSOR 1 is 122°F(50°C) or less.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds or more.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P050A indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 25.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P050A in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 24 , go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep idling until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 22 .
DTC P050B: Cold Start Ignition Timing Control System Performance Problem
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Are any Pending or Confirmed DTCs other than P050B indicated? YES -Go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -Go to step 3.
- Check for a blocked or an incorrectly installed intake air duct. Is it OK? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Reconnect or repair the intake air duct, then go to step 21 .
- Check for damage at the air cleaner housing. Is it OK? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Replace the air cleaner housing (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(ref-512902-S06198685672012110400000) ), then go to step 21 .
- Check for dirt or debris in the air cleaner element. Is it dirty? YES -Replace the air cleaner element or remove the debris (see «AIR CLEANER ELEMENT INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT»(ref-512902-S06198685672012110400000) ), then go to step 21 . NO -Go to step 6.
- Let the engine cool until the value of ECT SENSOR 1 is 122°F(50°C) or less.
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds or more.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P050B in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate FAILED? YES -Go to step 10. NO -If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor, the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, ECT sensor 1, ECT sensor 2, and the PCM. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep idling until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 6 .
- Inspect the ignition timing (see «IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION»(ref-512906-S20141892042012110400000) ). Is the ignition timing OK? YES -Go to step 12 . NO -Go to step 11.
- Check for damage at the CKP sensor (see «CKP SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02894939802012110400000) ) and the CKP pulse plate (see «CKP PULSE PLATE REPLACEMENT»(ref-512928-S11198756592012110400000) ). Is the CKP sensor and/or the CKP pulse plate damaged? YES -Replace the CKP sensor (see «CKP SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02894939802012110400000) ) and/or the CKP pulse plate (see «CKP PULSE PLATE REPLACEMENT»(ref-512928-S11198756592012110400000) ), then go to step 21 . NO -Go to step 28 .
- Do the ETCS TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL VALVE normal? YES -Go to step 13. NO -Replace the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-512914-S27009668942012110400000) ), then go to step 21 .
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- While holding the engine speed at 2, 500 rpm for 30 seconds, check the MAF SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is there about 6.5-9.1 g/s? YES -Go to step 15. - Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Allow ECT sensor land ECT sensor 2 to cool to the ambient temperature.
- Note the ambient temperature.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Quickly note the value of ECT SENSOR 1 and ECT SENSOR 2 in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
- Compare the value of ECT SENSOR 1 and the ambient temperature, and the value of ECT SENSOR 2 and the ambient temperature individually. Does either sensor differ more than 5.4 °F (3 °C) from the ambient temperature? YES -Replace the sensor that differed more than 5.4 °F (3 °C) from the ambient temperature. Refill the cooling systems (see «COOLANT CHECK»(ref-512899-S13443221892012110400000) ), then go to step 21. NO -Check and repair any problems with the following items. Repair or replace them if needed, then go to step 21. If all of the items are OK, go to step 28 . Engine compression and cylinder leakdown VTEC system Engine oil A/C system Power steering
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Let the engine cool until the value of ECT SENSOR 1 is 122°F(50°C) or less.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds or more.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P050B indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor, the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, ECT sensor 1, ECT sensor 2, and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 27.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P050B in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 26 , go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor, the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, ECT sensor 1, ECT sensor 2, and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep idling until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 24 .
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ).
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Let the engine cool until the value of ECT SENSOR 1 is 122°F(50°C) or less.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 seconds or more.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P050B indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor, the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, ECT sensor 1, ECT sensor 2, and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then go to step 30 . If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 33.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P050B in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 32 , go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor, the throttle body, the MAF sensor/IAT sensor, ECT sensor 1, ECT sensor 2, and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then go to step 30 . If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep idling until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 30 .
DTC P060A: PCM Internal Control Module Malfunction
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P060A indicated? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P060A indicated? YES -If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) .
DTC P062F: PCM Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P062F indicated? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
- Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P062F indicated? YES -If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1 . NO -If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) .
DTC P065A: ACG No Charging Malfunction
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P0562 indicated at the same time? YES -Go to «DTC P0562 TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S25640925442012110400000) (see ). NO -Go to step 3.
- Inspect the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT INSPECTION»(ref-512905-S20602512182012110400000) ). Is the drive belt OK? YES -Do the alternator overhaul (see «ALTERNATOR OVERHAUL»(ref-512905-S23207345312012110400000) ). NO -Replace the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT INSPECTION»(ref-512905-S20602512182012110400000) ).
DTC P06A8: Internal VCC Power Malfunction
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P06A8 indicated? YES -Replace the PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the PCM.
DTC P16BB: Alternator B Terminal Circuit Low Voltage
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm (in P or N) for 1 minute.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BB indicated? YES -Go to step 7. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box. Also check the battery performance (see «BATTERY TEST»(ref-512910-S33392585292012110400000) ).
- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box (+ B line). Are the connections and terminals OK? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Repair the connections or the terminals, then go to step 9 .
- Check for an open in the wire between the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box at the engine harness. Is the harness OK? YES -Replace the alternator (see «TENSIONER PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(ref-512905-S10218254512012110400000) ), then go to step 9. NO -Repair an open in the wire between the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Start the engine.
- Check under these conditions: A/C on Temperature control at maximum cool Blower fan at maximum speed Headlights on high beam Rear window defogger on
- Hold the engine speed at 2, 000 rpm (in P or N) for 1 minute.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16BB indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the under-hood fuse/relay box, then go to step 1 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) .
DTC P16E2: PGM-FI-ACG LIN Communication Error
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). Check for loose terminal on the alternator (+ B terminal). If the alternator +B terminal was poor connection or loose terminal, the DTC P16E2 will be stored.

- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16E2 indicated? YES -Go to step 6. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the alternator 1P connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Measure the voltage between alternator 1P connector terminal and body ground. Is there any voltage? YES -Go to step 15 . NO -Go to step 10.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (49P).
- Check for continuity between alternator 1P connector terminal and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between the PCM (B45) and the alternator, then go to step 17 . NO -Go to step 14.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B45 and alternator 1P connector terminal. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 22 . NO -Repair an open in the wire between the PCM (B45) and the alternator, then go to step 17 .
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Replace the alternator (see «TENSIONER PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(ref-512905-S10218254512012110400000) ).
- Reconnect all connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16E2 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the alternator was replaced, replace the PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ), then go to step 17 . NO -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) .

DTC P16E4: ACG High-temperature
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). This DTC is stored when the alternator temperature is high (about 320 °F (160 °C) or more).
- If the temperature of the engine and the alternator is high, open the hood to cool the engine compartment.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P16E4 indicated? YES -Replace the alternator (see «TENSIONER PULLEY REPLACEMENT»(ref-512905-S10218254512012110400000) ). NO -Check the cause of the high temperature, and repair it.
DTC P219A: Air-fuel ratio variation of cylinders
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ). If any of the DTCs listed below are indicated at the same time as DTC P219A, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for P219A.
P0133, P1157, P1172, P2195, P2238, P2252, P2A00: A/F sensor(Sensor 1)
P0134, P0135: A/F sensor (Sensor 1) heater
P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204: No. 1-No. 4 cylinder injector(s)
P0300: Random misfire
P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304: No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, or No. 4 cylinder misfire detected
P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354: No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, or No. 4 ignition coil circuit
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Record following HDS parameters (On-board snapshot): VEHICLE SPEED ENGINE SPEED MAP SENSOR ECT SENSOR 1 APP SENSOR AF FB (ST FUEL TRIM)
- Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check under these conditions: A/C off All electrical loads off
- Do the Cylinder AF Test three times in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the result OK? YES -Go to step 6. NO -Go to step 9 .
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Test-drive the vehicle in the range of these recorded on-board snapshot parameters: VEHICLE SPEED ENGINE SPEED MAP SENSOR ECT SENSOR 1 APP SENSOR AF FB (ST FUEL TRIM)
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P219A in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate FAILED? YES -Go to step 20 . NO -If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 7 and recheck.
- Do a cylinder compression test (see «ENGINE COMPRESSION INSPECTION»(ref-512907-S09860656572012110400000) ). Is the compression of the problem cylinder lower than the other cylinders? YES -Adjust the engine compression (see «ENGINE COMPRESSION INSPECTION»(ref-512907-S09860656572012110400000) ), then go to step 22 . NO -Go to step 10.
- Inspect the valve clearance (see «VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-512907-S22265525272012110400000) ). Is the valve clearance OK? YES -Go to step 11. NO -Adjust the valve clearance (see «VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-512907-S22265525272012110400000) ), then go to step 11.
- Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Check under these conditions: A/C off All electrical loads off
- Do the Cylinder AF Test three times in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the result OK? YES -Go to step 22 . NO -Go to step 14.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Exchange the injector from the problem cylinder with one from the another cylinder.
- Recconect all connectors.
- Start the engine, and let it idle for 10 minutes.
- Check under these conditions: A/C off All electrical loads off
- Do the Cylinder AF Test three times in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is an injector failure indicated at the cylinder where the injector was exchanged? YES -Replace the faulty injector (see «INJECTOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S39629198822012110400000) ), then go to step 22 . NO -Go to step 21 .
- Inspect the valve clearances (see «VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-512907-S22265525272012110400000) ). Are the valve clearances OK? YES -Go to step 21. NO -Adjust the valve clearances (see «VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-512907-S22265525272012110400000) ), then go to step 22 and recheck. If DTC P219A is indicated go to step 21. If DTC P219A is not indicated, troubleshooting is complete.
- Check for carbon build-up in the intake manifold (see «INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512902-S18459429352012110400000) ), and the exhaust line (see «EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT»(ref-512902-S38392538502012110400000) ). Is there carbon build-up in the intake manifold and/or the cylinder head? YES -Remove the carbon, then go to step 22. NO -Check the engine for oil leaks. If needed, repair the engine, then go to step 22. NOTE: If engine oil burning occurs, this code can be stored.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Test-drive the vehicle in the range of these recorded on-board snapshot parameters: VEHICLE SPEED ENGINE SPEED MAP SENSOR ECT SENSOR 1 APP SENSOR AF FB (ST FUEL TRIM)
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P219A indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injectors and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 27.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P219A in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 26 , go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, go to step 1 and recheck. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 25 .
DTC P2A00: A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) Circuit Range/Performance Problem
Note. Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information (see GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Clear the DTC with the HDS.
- Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3, 000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
- Test-drive under these conditions: Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158°F(70°C) Transmission in D Vehicle speed between 25 - 55 mph (40-88 km/h) for 5 minutes Drive at a steady speed between 55-75 mph (88-120 km/h) for 10 seconds, then decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) for 8 seconds
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2A00 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate FAILED? YES -Go to step 6. NO -If the HDS indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM. If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 3 and recheck.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Replace the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) (see «A/F SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S33740854082012110400000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Reset the PCM with the HDS.
- Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-512915-S18881962312012110400000) ).
- Test-drive under these conditions: Engine coolant temperature (ECT SENSOR 1) above 158°F(70°C) Transmission in D Vehicle speed between 25-55 mph (40-88 km/h) for 5 minutes Drive at a steady speed between 55-75 mph (88-120 km/h) for 10 seconds, then decelerate (with the throttle fully closed) for 8 seconds
- Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC P2A00 indicated? YES -Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM, then go to step 1 . NO -Go to step 13.
- Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2A00 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the HDS indicate PASSED? YES -Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated instep 12 , go to the indicated «DTC'S TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-512916-S10431985942012110400000) . NO -If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and the PCM, then go to step 1 . If the HDS indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until a result comes on. If the HDS indicates OUT OF CONDITION, go to step 11 .

- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Do the gauge self-diagnostic function (see «SELF-DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION»(ref-512917-S25449613202012110400000) ). Does the MIL flash? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Substitute a known-good gauge control module (see «GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT»(ref-512917-S09574005072012110400000) ), then recheck. - Connect the HDS to the DLC (see «GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION»(ref-512892-S22789688592012110400000) ).
- Check the SCS in the DATA LIST with the HDS. Is a short indicated? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect PCM connector A (49P), then disconnect the HDS.
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A32 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between the PCM (A32) and the DLC. NO -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ).

- Check the No. A3-1 IG MAIN (50 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Repair an open in the wire between the No. A3-1 IG MAIN (50 A) fuse and the ignition switch. If the wire is OK, go to step 2. NO -Repair a short in the wire between the No. A3-1 IG MAIN (50 A) fuse and the ignition switch. Also replace the No. A3-1 IG MAIN (50 A) fuse.
- Inspect the No. A17 Fl MAIN (15 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Go to step 9 . NO -Go to step 3.
- Remove the blown No. A17 Fl MAIN (15 A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Remove PGM-FI main relay 1 (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Check for continuity between body ground and PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3 individually. Is there continuity? YES -Replace the under-hood fuse/relay box (see «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512932-S29860116432012110400000) ). Also replace the No. A17 Fl MAIN (15 A) fuse. NO -Go to step 6.
- While disconnecting each of the parts or connectors below, one at a time, check for continuity between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground: PGM-FI main relay 2 PCM connector A (49P) Each injector 2P connector CMP sensor B 3P connector CKP sensor 3P connector Electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay Does continuity go away when one of the above parts or connectors is disconnected? YES -Replace the part that made the short to body ground go away when disconnected. If the part is the PCM, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). Also replace the No. A17 FI MAIN (15 A) fuse. NO -Go to step 7.
- Disconnect the connectors from these parts: PGM-FI main relay 2 PCM connector B (49P) Injectors CMP sensor B CKP sensor Electronic throttle control system (ETCS) control relay
- Check for continuity between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between PGM-FI main relay 1 and each part. Also replace the No. A17 Fl MAIN (15 A) fuse. NO -Replace PGM-FI main relay 1. Also replace the No. A17 Fl MAIN (15 A) fuse.
- Inspect the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Go to step 21 . NO -Go to step 10.
- Remove the blown No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Remove PGM-FI main relay 2 (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Test PGM-FI main relay 2 (see «POWER RELAY TEST»(ref-512911-S09694139012012110400000) ). Is the relay OK? YES -Go to step 13. NO -Replace PGM-FI main relay 2. Also replace the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse.
- Check for continuity between PGM-FI main relay 2 4P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 14. NO -Go to step 17 .
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connector C (49P).
- Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C10 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse and the PCM (C10), between the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse and PGM-FI main relay 2, or between the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse and the immobilizer control unit. Also replace the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse. NO -Replace the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse, and update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ).
- Remove the rear seat cushion (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-512936-S35186813802012110400000) ).
- Remove the access panel from the floor (see step 3 on «FUEL TANK UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512903-S22165279602012110400000) ).
- Disconnect the fuel pump 4P connector.
- Check for continuity between fuel pump 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short in the wire between the fuel pump and PGM-FI main relay 2. Also replace the No. B9 FUEL PUMP(20A)fuse. NO -Check the fuel pump, and replace it if needed (see «FUEL PUMP/FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT REPLACEMENT»(ref-512903-S27019861892012110400000) ). Also replace the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse.
- Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
- Disconnect PCM connectors C (49P) and B (49P).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal C10 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 25. NO -Repair an open in the wire between the No. B9 FUEL PUMP (20 A) fuse and the PCM (C10).
- Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal A7 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 30 . NO -Go to step 26.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove PGM-FI main relay 1 (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Measure the voltage between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 29. NO -Replace the under-hood fuse/relay box (see «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512932-S29860116432012110400000) ).
- Check for continuity between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 4 and PCM connector terminal A7. Is there continuity? YES -Test PGM-FI main relay 1 (see «POWER RELAY TEST»(ref-512911-S09694139012012110400000) ). If the relay is OK, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). NO -Repair an open in the wire between the PCM (A7) and PGM-FI main relay 1.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove PGM-FI main relay 1 (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.
- Measure the voltage between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 33. NO -Replace the under-hood fuse/relay box (see «REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-512932-S29860116432012110400000) ).
- Check for continuity between PGM-FI main relay 1 4P connector terminal No. 2 and PCM connector terminal A9. Is there continuity? YES -Go to step 34. NO -Repair an open in the wire between the PCM (A9) and PGM-FI main relay 1.
- Test PGM-FI main relay 1 (see «POWER RELAY TEST»(ref-512911-S09694139012012110400000) ). Is PGM-FI main relay 1 OK? YES -Go to step 35. NO -Replace PGM-FI main relay 1.
- Disconnect PCM connector B (49P)
- Check for continuity between body ground and PCM connector terminals B1, B10, C2, C44, and C49 individually. Is there continuity? YES -Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software (see «PCM UPDATE»(ref-512916-S11084252612012110400000) ), or substitute a known-good PCM (see «SUBSTITUTING THE PCM»(ref-512892-S14637491262012110400000) ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the symptom/indication goes away and the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM (see «PCM REPLACEMENT»(ref-512916-S02027474692012110400000) ). NO -Repair an open in the wire(s) between the PCM (B1, B10, C2, C44, C49) and body ground (G101) (see «CONNECTOR TO FUSE/RELAY BOX INDEX»(ref-512935-S10943883832012110400000) ).

- Relieve the fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(ref-512903-S20563776592012110400000) ).
- Remove the engine cover.
- Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the quick-connect fitting (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(ref-512903-S02781388452012110400000) ).
- Disconnect the injector connectors (C) and the engine mount control solenoid valve connector (D).
- Remove the ground cable bolts (G101 and G102) (E).
- Remove the fuel rail mounting nuts (F) from the fuel rail (G).
- Remove the fuel rail and the injectors from the injector base.
- Remove the injector clips (H) from the fuel rail.
- Remove the injectors from the fuel rail.
- Coat the new O-rings (black) (A) with clean engine oil, and insert the injectors (B) into the fuel rail (C).
- Install the injectors clips (D).
- Coat the new O-rings (brown) (E) with clean engine oil.
- Install the fuel rail and the injectors in the injector base (F).
- Install the fuel rail mounting nuts (G) and the ground cable bolts (G101 and G102) (H).
- Connect the injector connectors (I) and the engine mount control solenoid valve connector (J).
- Connect the quick-connect fitting (K) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(ref-512903-S23446338642012110400000) ), and quick-connect fitting cover (L).
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel rail will be pressurized. Repeat this two or three times, then make sure there are no fuel leaks.
- Reinstall the engine cover.

- Disconnect the MAP sensor connector (A).

- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (C).
