Installing The Screws For Engine Pads And The Torque Rod Bracket In The Transmission

Install

  1. the screws, M10, to the front and rear engine pads. Tighten.

Note. Use new screws.

  1. the torque rod mounting on the transmission.

Tighten according to: Tightening torque

Scheme 387: Installing The Steering Wheel Shaft Universal Joint

Align the steering wheel shaft joint on the steering gear.

Install a new steering wheel shaft screw. Tighten acc. to: Tightening torque.

Connect the cable to the stepper motor/solenoid.

Check the position of the tie rod in the steering gear acc. to: Transmission, removing.

Checking The Torque Converter

Ensure that the torque converter is as far into the transmission as possible.

Check with a ruler that the distance between the cover and mounting lugs is approximately 14 mm .

Apply a small amount of grease to the guide pin for the torque converter.

Scheme 388: Flushing The Oil Cooler

Place the lower pipe from the oil cooler in a drip pan.

Flush the oil cooler via the upper hose. Use automatic transmission fluid P/N 116 1540-8 (1 liter packaging) and a syringe or similar.

Scheme 389: Check The Carrier Plate

Check that the carrier plate is not damaged or cracked.

Check that mating surfaces of the engine are clean. Check that the guide bushings for the transmission are intact and in position.

Removing The Screws From The Torque Converter

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right-hand fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Scheme 390: Removing The Oil Pipe From The Gearbox

Position a container under the pipe terminal.

Remove

  1. the 2 screws holding the pipe. Remove the pipe from the gearbox. Install sealing plugs in the pipe and the gearbox. Carefully fold the hose out of the way
  2. the ground lead from the gearbox.

Scheme 391: Lowering The Engine And The Transmission

Lower the vehicle.

Lower the engine and gearbox on the left-hand side using the hook.

Check that no hoses or cables are being stretched or trapped when the engine is lowered.

Lower the engine until the lifting hook stop is visible in the hole on the upper section of the hook, see the arrow in (Scheme 391).

Raise the car.

Scheme 392: Installing The Fixture On The Mobile Jack And Gearbox

Raise the car.

Fit: 9995463 to: 9995972 .

Use the fixture and the plate together with: 9985972 .

Align: 9995463 to the fixture and the transmission.

Note. The support plate on the inside of the fixture mounting eye (see illustration).

Tighten the fixture using the two screws for the torque rod.

Apply the mobile jack lightly against the gearbox.

Scheme 393: Removing All The Screws For The Gearbox/Engine

Remove the remaining 7 screws for the gearbox and engine.

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right-hand fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right-hand fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right-hand fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Removing The Torque Rod

Remove the torque rod between the wheel housing towers and the engine.

Disconnect the inner of the two hose couplings from the connecting sleeve for the passenger compartment heater in the firewall.

Remove the 6 screws for the torque converter.

Turn the engine. Use a socket and ratchet. Pull out the right-hand fender liner slightly to access the crankshaft nut more easily.

Use a Torx TX 50 socket on the torque converter screws.

Removing The Lower Torque Rod Bracket

Remove

  1. the bolts (1), x3
  2. the bolt (2), x1
  3. the bracket.

Scheme 394: Installing The Fixture On The Mobile Jack And Gearbox

Fit: 9995463 to: 9995972 .

Use the fixture and plate together with: 9985972 .

Note. Tighten all bolts to the fixtures.

Fit: 9997101 with one of the associated bolts to the fixture and gearbox. Fit: 9997101 with: 9997166 .

Apply the mobile jack lightly to the gearbox.

Note. Tighten all bolts to the fixtures.
