Removing the screws and nuts for the engine pads and torque rod

Remove

  1. the screw for the front/rear engine pad - sub frame
  2. the screws for the torque rod.

Installing and tightening the screws to the gearbox

Fit the screws, 7 x M10, to the gearbox/engine.

First tighten alternately and crosswise with light contact, while checking that the gearbox and engine are in contact all the way around.

Following which, tighten the screws with light contact crosswise to the gearbox/engine. Tighten.

Remove the fixture from the gearbox.

Fitting the torque converter screws.

Note. Use new screws, Torx TX50.

Align the torque converter to the carrier plate, by means of pulling round the engine with the nut to the crankshaft pulley and turning the torque converter.

Fit all screws, 6, loosely. Insert the screws as far as the screw heads sit against the carrier plate. Tighten in accordance with: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Note. Remove the socket wrench from the crankshaft.

Tightening the subframe screws (both sides)

Tighten the screws on the left-hand side of the subframe first, followed by the right-hand side, as per Summary of specific components and tightening torques.

Use: 9512050 .

Tighten the screws, 4 x M10, to the subframe brackets.

Fitting the screws for engine pads and the torque rod bracket in the gearbox

Install

  1. the screws, M10, to the front and rear engine pads. Tighten

Note. Use new screws.

  1. the torque rod bracket to the gearbox. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406971-S13570661772011070100000).

Installing and tightening the front suspension components

Fit the nut to the ball joint pin. Counterhold the ball joint pin while tightening so that the gaiter does not turn. Use a new nut, M12.

Tighten, see: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Tighten the drive shaft screw. Use a new screw. Counterhold with a screwdriver in the brake disc. Tighten in accordance with: Summary of tightening torques for specific components . Use: 9512050 .

Fit on the left-hand side

  1. the link to the anti-roll bar. Counterhold the ball joint pin while tightening so that the gaiter does not turn. Use a new lock nut. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(/volvo/v70/ii-2000-2004/remont/suspension-front/#tightening-torque-specifications-mechanical__summary-of-tightening-torques-for-specific) .
  2. the tie rod. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406974-S21905654952011070100000).

Install

  1. the ABS line to the bracket in the spring strut
  2. the wing liner with support plate and nuts.

Installing and tightening front end components (both sides)

Install and tighten the front end components.

Tightening the ball joint pinion

Tighten the ball joint pinion.

Installing the torque control arm

Install the torque control arm according to Installing the torque control arm.

Scheme 1993

Scheme 1993: Installing the remaining screws on the gearbox and starter motor

Install

  1. the screws for the gearbox and engine. Tighten to 50 Nm
  2. the screws for the clamps for the wiring.

Scheme 1994

Scheme 1994: Installing the gearbox cable bracket on the gearbox and the cables on the levers

Install

  1. the bracket and the screws. Tighten to 25 Nm
  2. the cable on the bracket. Secure it with the locking
  3. the lever on the gearbox. Tap in the expander pin
  4. the mechanical cables on the levers. Check the marking
  5. the connector.

Installing the air cleaner (ACL) housing and the torque rod in the engine compartment

Install the air cleaner (ACL) housing and torque rod in the engine compartment.

Scheme 1995

Scheme 1995: Checking the steering gear bearing in the boot at the firewall

Check that the steering gear bearing in the boot has not detached from the boot.

If it has become detached apply a little grease to the edge of the boot (around the hole). Press the bearing back down into the boot. See arrow in illustration.

Note. Check that the rubber boot is positioned correctly in the bodywork. Adjust if necessary. There is a risk that noise from the gearbox or engine and road noise may enter the passenger compartment.

Connect the battery lead

First read Battery, disconnecting.

Test driving

Scheme 1996

Scheme 1996: Installing the engine cover

Install

  1. the engine cover and the screws
  2. the front soundproofing panel.

Test driving

Fit the screws, 7 x M10, to the gearbox/engine.

First tighten alternately and crosswise with light contact, while checking that the gearbox and engine are in contact all the way around.

Following which, tighten the screws with light contact crosswise to the gearbox/engine. Tighten.

Remove the fixture from the gearbox.

Note. Use new screws, Torx TX50.

Align the torque converter to the carrier plate, by means of pulling round the engine with the nut to the crankshaft pulley and turning the torque converter.

Tighten the screws on the left-hand side of the subframe first, followed by the right-hand side, as per Summary of specific components and tightening torques.

Use: 9512050 .

Tighten the screws, 4 x M10, to the sub-frame brackets.

Install

  1. the screws, M10, to the front and rear engine pads. Tighten

Note. Use new screws.

  1. the torque rod bracket to the gearbox. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406971-S13570661772011070100000).

Fit the nut to the ball joint pin. Counterhold the ball joint pin while tightening so that the gaiter does not turn. Use a new nut, M12.

Tighten, see: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Fit on the left-hand side

  2. the tie rod. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406974-S21905654952011070100000).

Install

  1. the ABS line to the bracket in the spring strut
  2. the wing liner with support plate and nuts.

Installing and tightening screws for transmission

Fit the screws, 7 x M10, to the gearbox/engine.

First tighten alternately and crosswise with light contact, while checking that the gearbox and engine are in contact all the way around.

Following which, tighten the screws with light contact crosswise to the gearbox/engine. Tighten.

Remove the fixture from the gearbox.

Note. Use new screws, Torx TX50.

Align the torque converter to the carrier plate, by turning the engine with the nut to the crankshaft pulley and turning the torque converter.

Fit all screws, 6, loosely. Insert the screws as far as the screw heads sit against the carrier plate. Tighten in accordance with: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Note. Remove the socket wrench from the crankshaft.

Install the sub-frame's four screws together with the sub-frame's brackets and engine heater, if installed.

Tighten acc. to: Tightening torque. First tighten the screws on the sub-frame's left side, then on the right.

Tighten the screws for the brackets M10.

Installing the screws for engine pads and the torque rod bracket in the transmission

Install

  1. the screws, M10, to the front and rear engine pads. Tighten.

Note. Use new screws.

  1. the torque rod bracket to the transmission. Tighten. See «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406971-S13570661772011070100000).

Fit the nut to the ball joint pin. Counterhold the ball joint pin while tightening so that the gaiter does not turn. Use a new nut, M12.

Tighten, see: Summary of tightening torques for specific components.

Tighten the screw to the drive shaft. Use a new screw. Counterhold the brake disc using a screwdriver. Tighten. See: Summary of tightening torques for specific components . Use: 9512050 .

Fit on the left-hand side

  1. the link to the anti-roll bar. Counterhold the ball joint pin while tightening so that the gaiter does not turn. Use a new lock nut. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(/volvo/v70/ii-2000-2004/remont/suspension-front/#tightening-torque-specifications-mechanical__summary-of-tightening-torques-for-specific) .
  2. the tie rod. Tighten in accordance with: «Summary of tightening torques for specific components»(ref-406974-S21905654952011070100000).

Install

  1. the ABS line to the bracket in the spring strut
  2. the wing liner with support plate and nuts.
