Anti-Lock/traction Control 11 illustrations ~812 words

Preparation

Raise the vehicle.

Remove the handbrake cable mountings from the sub-frame.

Install the tensioner.

Note. The tensioner must be positioned as far out as possible on the tensioner plates to provide the correct lifting force.

Scheme 167

Scheme 167: Use the tensioner

Tensioner 9995659 is used when working on the suspension. It is vital that the screwed joints for the rubber bushings are tightened in the normal position (in the same position as when the car is on the ground and has three people in the car and a full fuel tank).

The tensioner relieves the pressure on the components in the suspension when removing and installing.

The tool is secured to the sub-frame with mounting 9997061 . This means that the lift stability is not affected during work.

Note. Thoroughly check that the power cable to the AOC connection does not get trapped between tool 9997061 and the sub frame.

Scheme 168

Install the threaded bar on the tensioner caliper 9995659 .

Scheme 169

Scheme 169

Lift up the tensioner caliper with the threaded bar 9995659 .

Insert the threaded bar in the mounting 9997061 from underneath.

Insert the locking washer with the handle in from the side in mounting 9997061 under the threaded screw.

Lock the screw in the locking washer. Align the locking washer in the mounting.

Note. The locking washer has a locating pin which must be aligned with the screw.

Scheme 170

Scheme 170

Install the 2 screws (5740-3c) from kit 9989761 in the control arm holes.

Scheme 171

Scheme 171

Install the rails 5740-1 modified according to (VM-277) on the control arms.

Make sure that the outer support lugs of the rail come in contact with the edge of the cast holes in the control arms and that the inner of the two center holes is used for the screw.

Make sure that the rollers on the tensioner comes in contact with the rails on both sides.

Note. The tensioner must be positioned as far out as possible on the rails with the lifting arms extended equally on both sides to provide the correct lifting force.

Scheme 172

Scheme 172

Raise the control arms to their normal position using the tensioner.

Scheme 173

Scheme 173: Normal position

The normal position of the rear suspension is 453 mm from the wing edge to the center of the wheel.

Removing the tensioner

Detach the tensioner, pull out the fork and lower the tensioner using the threaded bar.

Remove

  1. mounting «9995659»(ref-403953-S17943043902011061000000) from the sub frame.
  2. the rails 5740-1 from the control arms.

Install the handbrake cable mountings in the sub-frame.

Scheme 174

Scheme 174: Switch off the ignition. Remove the wheel and wheel sensor

Note. Blow clean around the sensor using compressed air before removing.

Remove the sensor mounting screw. Pull out the sensor.

Remove the electrical cables from the brackets.

Remove the clips from the electrical cables.

Separate the connector. Remove the sensor.

Install the wheel sensor

Clean around the sensor seat so that when installed the sensor will be in the correct position against the pulse wheel. Use a soft brush.

Install

  1. the sensor. Tighten the screw. Tighten to 10 Nm
  2. the wiring in its brackets
  3. the clips
  4. the connector.

Check that the wiring is installed in the brackets and clips.

Preparations

Switch off the ignition.

Scheme 175

Scheme 175: Remove the seat cushion for the rear seat

Pull the seat cushion straight up from its mountings (if it stays in place lift the seat cushion past the backrest support).

Fold the cargo compartment carpet out of the way.

Remove the wheel.

Scheme 176

Scheme 176: Remove the connectors for the wheel sensors

Right-hand side

  1. Fold the backrest
  2. Remove the two nuts over the cover
  3. Remove the remaining nuts
  4. Remove the cover over the fuel pump (FP)
  5. Separate the connector for the wheel sensor
  6. Install a piece of cable on the connector. Pull the cable from underneath between the tank and bodywork
  7. Detach the wiring from the tank. Disconnect the cable from the connector. Leave the cable in place.

Scheme 177: Remove the wheel sensor

Note. Blow clean around the sensor using compressed air before removing.

Remove the mounting screws for the sensor. Pull out the sensor.

Disconnect the wiring from the clips on the brake hose.

Remove all the sensor wiring.

Clean around the sensor seat so that when installed the sensor will be in the correct position against the pulse wheel. Use a soft brush.

Install the wheel sensor wiring. Tighten the screw. Tighten to 10 Nm .

Install the wiring in the clip on the brake pipe and on the tank.

Install the wheel sensor connector

  1. Secure the new connector to the loose cable
  2. Pull up the sensor connector between the fuel tank and the bodywork (1) to the second connector
  3. Disconnect the cable from the connector
  4. Connect the sensor connector to the existing connector (2)
  5. Reinstall the fuel pump (FP) cover.
