PROCEDURE
- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Turn the A/C switch on. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank1). Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test Tester Display Control the VVT Linear (Bank1) Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream. Standard Condition Techstream Operation Specified Condition 0% Normal engine speed 100% Engine idles roughly or stalls HINT: If the result is not as specified, allow the engine to cool (engine coolant temperature of 50°C (122°F) or less) and perform the Active Test again. DTCs related to the VVT system may be stored due to Active Test operation, but this does not indicate a malfunction. If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank2). Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test Tester Display Control the VVT Linear (Bank2) Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream. Standard Condition Techstream Operation Specified Condition 0% Normal engine speed 100% Engine idles roughly or stalls HINT: If the result is not as specified, allow the engine to cool (engine coolant temperature of 50°C (122°F) or less) and perform the Active Test again. - REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK ASSEMBLY Refer to «REMOVAL [02/2014 - ]»(ref-644297-S18861714072014072300000)
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.

Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Check the operation. Connect an auxiliary battery positive (+) lead to terminal 1 and negative (-) lead to terminal 2, and check the movement of the spool valve. *a Component without harness connected (Camshaft Timing Oil Control Valve Assembly) *b When Applied *c When Cut Off *d Spool Valve OK Condition Specified Condition Auxiliary battery voltage is applied Valve moves in left arrow direction shown in illustration Auxiliary battery voltage is cut off Valve moves in right arrow direction shown in illustration NOTE: Accumulation of foreign matter can cause minor pressure leaks. Minor pressure leaks in the intake side camshaft timing oil control valve assembly will cause the intake camshaft to advance. Minor pressure leaks in the exhaust side camshaft timing oil control valve assembly will cause the exhaust camshaft to retard. The inappropriate camshaft timing that results from these leaks will cause a DTC to be stored. If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 2) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Bank 1) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). - INSPECT THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Put the engine in inspection mode (maintenance mode). - REMOVE INLET NO. 2 AIR CLEANER Remove the 2 bolts. Remove the inlet No. 2 air cleaner from the inlet No. 1 air cleaner.
- REMOVE INLET NO. 1 AIR CLEANER Disengage the hose clamp from the inlet No. 1 air cleaner. Remove the bolt. Remove the inlet No. 1 air cleaner from the air cleaner assembly.
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Disengage the hose clamp from the air cleaner hose. Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and disengage the wire harness clamp. Slide the clip and disconnect the ventilation hose from the air cleaner hose. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the air cleaner hose from the throttle body with motor assembly. Remove the 2 bolts. Disengage the clamp to remove the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Disconnect the throttle body with motor assembly connector and disengage the wire harness clamp. Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose from the throttle body with motor assembly. *1 No. 2 Water By-pass Hose *2 No. 3 Water By-pass Hose Remove the 4 bolts, wire harness clamp bracket and throttle body with motor assembly from the intake air surge tank assembly. NOTE: If the throttle body with motor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY GASKET Remove the throttle body gasket from the intake air surge tank assembly.
- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. *a Component without harness connected (Throttle Body with Motor Assembly) Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 0.3 to 100 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body with motor assembly.
- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY GASKET Install a new throttle body gasket to the intake air surge tank assembly with the protrusion of the throttle body gasket oriented as shown in the illustration. *a Protrusion
- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Install the throttle body with motor assembly and wire harness clamp bracket to the intake air surge tank assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the throttle body with motor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose to the throttle body with motor assembly and slide the 2 clips to secure them. Connect the throttle body with motor assembly connector and engage the wire harness clamp.
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Engage the clamp to install the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose. Connect the air cleaner hose to the throttle body with motor assembly. Install the 2 bolts. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Tighten the hose clamp. Connect the ventilation hose to the air cleaner hose and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and engage the wire harness clamp. Engage the hose clamp to the air cleaner hose.
- INSTALL INLET NO. 1 AIR CLEANER Connect the inlet No. 1 air cleaner to the air cleaner assembly. Install the bolt. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Engage the hose clamp to the inlet No. 1 air cleaner.
- INSTALL INLET NO. 2 AIR CLEANER Connect the inlet No. 2 air cleaner to the inlet No. 1 air cleaner. Install the 2 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL INTAKE AIR RESONATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY Connect the intake air resonator sub-assembly to the inlet No. 2 air cleaner. Install the 2 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) Engage the 3 hose clamps to the intake air resonator sub-assembly.

NOTE: After disconnecting the ECM connectors, make sure that dirt, water or other foreign matter does not contact the connecting parts of the ECM connectors. Disengage the wire harness clamp. Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps. Disengage the cooler pipe clamp. Remove the 3 bolts and ECM. NOTE: If the ECM has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the 2 bolts and wire harness clamp bracket from the ECM.
- REMOVE ECM BRACKET Remove the 2 bolts and ECM bracket from the engine room ECU cover.
- REMOVE NO. 2 ECM BRACKET Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 ECM bracket from the engine room ECU box.
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM ECU COVER Disengage the 3 claws to remove the engine room ECU cover from the engine room ECU box.
- REMOVE ENGINE ROOM ECU BOX Remove the engine room ECU box from the ECM.
- INSTALL ENGINE ROOM ECU BOX Install the engine room ECU box to the ECM.
- INSTALL ENGINE ROOM ECU COVER Engage the 3 claws to install the engine room ECU cover to the engine room ECU box.

- INSTALL ECM Install the wire harness clamp bracket to the ECM with the 2 bolts. Torque: 4.5 N*m (46 kgf*cm, 40 in.*lbf) Install the ECM with the 3 bolts. Bolt (A) Torque: 13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf) Bolt (B) Torque: 30 N*m (306 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the ECM has been struck or dropped, replace it. Engage the cooler pipe clamp. Note. Perform the mass air flow meter sub-assembly inspection according to the following procedure. Only replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly when the mass air flow meter sub-assembly value in the Data List (with the engine stopped) is not within the normal operating range or there is foreign matter on the mass air flow meter sub-assembly platinum hot wire (heater).
- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER SUB-ASSEMBLY HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [02/2014 - ]»(ref-644155-S26546829062014072300000) Read the value using the Techstream (MAF). NOTE: Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface. Perform the inspection of the mass air flow meter sub-assembly while it is installed to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly (installed to the vehicle). During the test, do not use an exhaust air duct on the exhaust pipe. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the power switch on (IG) (do not start the hybrid system). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAF. Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List Tester Display MAF Wait for 30 seconds, and read the value on the Techstream. Standard Condition Tester Display Condition Standard Condition MAF Engine not running 30 seconds after power switch turned on (IG) 0.53 gm/sec or less If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly. - INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (for Bank 2) HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing a heated oxygen sensor. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [02/2014 - ]»(ref-644155-S26546829062014072300000) Using SST, install the heated oxygen sensor to the front exhaust pipe assembly. SST: 09224-00010 without SST [Torque (N*m (kgf*cm, ft.*lbf))] Torque: 44 N*m (449 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf) with SST [Reading of Torque wrench (N*m (kgf*cm, ft.*lbf))] Torque: 39 N*m (398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the heated oxygen sensor has been struck or dropped, replace it. HINT: This torque value is effective when SST is parallel to the torque wrench. The "with SST" torque value is effective when using SST with a fulcrum length of 30 mm (1.18 in.). The "with SST" torque value is effective when using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 260 mm (10.2 in.). If using a torque wrench with a different length, or connecting the torque wrench and SST at an angle, refer to the alternate torque values. - INSPECT CIRCUIT OPENING RELAY (C/OPN) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 5 Auxiliary battery voltage not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kohms or higher Auxiliary battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the circuit opening relay (C/OPN).
- INSPECT FUEL PUMP RELAY (FUEL PMP) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 3 - 4 Auxiliary battery voltage not applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 ohms Auxiliary battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kohms or higher 3 - 5 Auxiliary battery voltage not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kohms or higher Auxiliary battery voltage applied between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the fuel pump relay (FUEL PMP).
