- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Turn the A/C switch on. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side). Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank1). Powertrain > Engine > Active Test Tester Display Control the VVT Linear (Bank1) Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream. Standard Condition Techstream Operation Specified Condition 0% Normal engine speed 100% Engine idles roughly or stalls HINT: If the result is not as specified, allow the engine to cool (engine coolant temperature of 50°C (122°F) or less) and perform the Active Test again. DTCs related to the VVT system may be stored due to Active Test operation, but this does not indicate a malfunction. If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM. - SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS for Bank 1: Disengage the wire harness clamp to separate the wire harness. for Bank 2: Disengage the 2 wire harness clamps to separate the wire harness.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 1) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 2) Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH. Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Remove the bolt and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH. NOTE: Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.

- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 - 2 20°C (68°F) 6.9 to 7.9 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Check the operation. The inappropriate camshaft timing that results from these leaks will cause a DTC to be stored. If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector. Install the wire harness clamp bracket to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH with the bolt. Torque: 8.4 N*m (86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf)
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 2) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH). Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector.

- INSTALL WIRE HARNESS for Bank 2: Engage the 2 wire harness clamps to install the wire harness. for Bank 1: Engage the wire harness clamp to install the wire harness.

- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Check the throttle control motor operating sound. Turn the ignition switch to ON. When depressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the throttle control motor. Make sure that no friction noise is emitted from the throttle control motor. If any friction noise exists, replace the throttle body with motor assembly. Check the throttle position sensor. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Powertrain > Engine > Data List Tester Display Throttle Sensor Position Fully depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully open, check that the Throttle Sensor Position value is within specification. Standard Throttle Valve Opening Percentage Tester Display Specified Condition Throttle Sensor Position 60% or higher NOTE: When checking the throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in P or N. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. If the percentage is less than 60%, check the throttle body with motor assembly, wire harness and ECM.

- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and disengage the wire harness clamp. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the No. 1 air cleaner hose. Disengage the vacuum hose clamp from the No. 1 air cleaner hose. Disconnect the air hose from the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Disengage the 2 air cleaner cap clamps. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose from the throttle body with motor assembly.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Disconnect the throttle body with motor assembly connector and disengage the wire harness clamp. Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose from the throttle body with motor assembly. *1 No. 2 water by-pass hose *2 No. 3 water by-pass hose Remove the 4 bolts, wire harness clamp bracket and throttle body with motor assembly from the intake air surge tank. NOTE: If the throttle body with motor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY GASKET Remove the throttle body gasket from the intake air surge tank.

- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY GASKET Install a new throttle body gasket to the intake air surge tank with the protrusion of the throttle body gasket oriented as shown in the illustration. *a Protrusion
- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY Install the throttle body with motor assembly and wire harness clamp bracket to the intake air surge tank with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the throttle body with motor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose and No. 3 water by-pass hose to the throttle body with motor assembly and slide the 2 clips to secure them. Connect the throttle body with motor assembly connector and engage the wire harness clamp.
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Install the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose to the throttle body with motor assembly. Engage the 2 air cleaner cap clamps to install the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose. Tighten the hose clamp. Connect the air hose to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Engage the vacuum hose clamp to the No. 1 air cleaner hose. Connect the No. 2 ventilation hose to the No. 1 air cleaner hose and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and engage the wire harness clamp.

- PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Be sure to perform this procedure after removing and reinstalling the throttle body with motor assembly or any throttle body with motor assembly components. Perform the following procedure after replacing the throttle body with motor assembly or any throttle body with motor assembly components. The following procedure should also be performed if the throttle body with motor assembly is cleaned. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [12/2013 - ]»(ref-636036-S39197130512014070700000) Turn the ignition switch to ON without operating the accelerator pedal. Perform the "Inspection After Repair". After the engine is warmed up, check that the idle speed is within the specified range with the A/C switch off. Standard Idle Speed 600 to 700 rpm NOTE: Be sure to perform this step with all accessories off. Make sure that the shift lever is in P or N. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Powertrain > Engine > Data List Tester Display Throttle Sensor Position Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check that the value is 60% or higher. Perform a road test and confirm that there are no abnormalities.

- REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and disengage the wire harness clamp. Remove the 2 bolts from the air cleaner assembly. Disconnect the air hose from the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Loosen the hose clamp and separate the air cleaner assembly from the No. 1 air cleaner hose. Separate the air cleaner assembly from the inlet air cleaner assembly. Disengage the clamp to remove the air cleaner assembly.
- REMOVE ECM Raise the 2 levers while pushing the locks on the levers, and disconnect the 2 ECM connectors. NOTE: After disconnecting the ECM connectors, make sure that dirt, water or other foreign matter does not contact the connecting parts of the ECM connectors. Disengage the wire harness clamp. Remove the 3 bolts and ECM. NOTE: If the ECM has been struck or dropped, replace it.
- REMOVE ECM BRACKET Remove the 2 screws and ECM bracket from the ECM.
- REMOVE NO. 2 ECM BRACKET Remove the 2 screws and No. 2 ECM bracket from the ECM.

- INSTALL NO. 2 ECM BRACKET Install the No. 2 ECM bracket to the ECM with the 2 screws. Torque: 3.0 N*m (31 kgf*cm, 27 in.*lbf)

- INSTALL ECM Install the ECM with the 3 bolts. Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf) NOTE: If the ECM has been struck or dropped, replace it. Engage the wire harness clamp. Connect the 2 ECM connectors and lower the 2 levers. NOTE: When connecting the ECM connectors, make sure that dirt, water or other foreign matter does not contact the connecting parts of the ECM connectors. Be sure to securely connect the ECM connectors.
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY Engage the clamp to set the air cleaner assembly. Install the air cleaner assembly to the inlet air cleaner assembly. Install the air cleaner assembly to the No. 1 air cleaner hose and tighten the hose clamp. Install the 2 bolts to the air cleaner assembly. Torque: 5.0 N*m (51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf) Connect the air hose to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly. Connect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and engage the wire harness clamp.
- CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [12/2013 - ]»(ref-636009-S07395919032014070700000)

The accelerator pedal sensor assembly does not require lubrication. Do not apply oil or other lubricants to the accelerator pedal sensor assembly. If applied, the accelerator pedal sensor assembly must be replaced. Disconnect the accelerator pedal sensor assembly connector. Remove the 2 nuts and accelerator pedal sensor assembly. NOTE: If the accelerator pedal sensor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it.
- INSTALL ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY NOTE: Avoid physical shock to the accelerator pedal sensor assembly. Do not disassemble the accelerator pedal sensor assembly. The accelerator pedal sensor assembly does not require lubrication. Do not apply oil or other lubricants to the accelerator pedal sensor assembly. If applied, the accelerator pedal sensor assembly must be replaced. Install the accelerator pedal sensor assembly with the 2 nuts. Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf) NOTE: If the accelerator pedal sensor assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Connect the accelerator pedal sensor assembly connector.

Note. Perform the mass air flow meter sub-assembly inspection according to the following procedure. Only replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly when the mass air flow meter sub-assembly value in the Data List (with the engine stopped) is not within the normal operating range or there is foreign matter on the mass air flow meter sub-assembly platinum hot wire (heater).
- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER SUB-ASSEMBLY HINT: Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly. Refer to «INITIALIZATION [12/2013 - ]»(ref-636036-S08872600722014070700000) Read the value using the Techstream (MAF). NOTE: Perform the inspection with the vehicle indoors and on a level surface. Perform the inspection of the mass air flow meter sub-assembly while it is installed to the air cleaner cap sub-assembly (installed to the vehicle). During the test, do not use an exhaust air duct on the exhaust pipe. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (do not start the engine). Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / MAF. Powertrain > Engine > Data List Tester Display MAF Wait for 30 seconds, and read the value on the Techstream. Standard Condition Tester Display Condition Standard Condition MAF Engine not running 30 seconds after ignition switch turned to ON 0.49 gm/sec or less If the result is not as specified, replace the mass air flow meter sub-assembly. If the result is within the specified range, inspect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly. Refer to «INSPECTION [12/2013 - ]»(ref-636218-S26554695922014070700000)

The "with SST" torque value is effective when using a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 260 mm (10.2 in.). If using a torque wrench with a different length, or connecting the torque wrench and SST at an angle, refer to the alternate torque values. Engage the 3 wire harness clamps.
