- INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Turn the A/C switch on. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side). Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1). Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test Tester Display Control the VVT Linear (Bank1) Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream. Standard Condition Techstream Operation Specified Condition 0% Normal engine speed 100% Engine idles roughly or stalls HINT: If the result is not as specified, allow the engine to cool (engine coolant temperature of 50°C (122°F) or less) and perform the Active Test again. DTCs related to the VVT system may be stored due to Active Test operation, but this does not indicate a malfunction. If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side). Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1). Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test Tester Display Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1) Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the Techstream. Minor pressure leaks in the exhaust side oil control valve will cause the exhaust camshaft to retard. The inappropriate camshaft timing that results from these leaks will cause a DTC to be stored. If the result is not as specified, replace the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). Make sure that the O-ring is not cracked or moved out of place when installing the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly connector.
- INSTALL CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side) Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly. Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly and wire harness bracket to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the bolt. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Do not allow foreign matter to contact the oil seal face of the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (connecting surface with the cylinder head cover sub-assembly). NOTE: Slide only the upper part of the valve lift control actuator connector clip, as the straight pin will fall out from the bottom if the valve lift control actuator connector clip is completely removed. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the intake camshaft position at the No. 1 cylinder and No. 3 cylinder are as shown in the illustration. *a No. 1 Cylinder *b No. 3 Cylinder HINT: If the intake camshaft position is not as shown in the illustration, rotate the crankshaft clockwise again so that the intake camshaft is aligned as shown in the illustration. Using a screwdriver, lightly pry the valve lift control actuator connector to make a space between the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly and camshaft housing sub-assembly. NOTE: Do not forcibly pry the valve lift control actuator connector. Do not damage the camshaft housing sub-assembly and camshaft bearing cap. Using a magnet hand, remove the straight pin from the valve lift control actuator connector. NOTE: Do not drop the straight pin into the engine. HINT: The straight pin can be removed by utilizing the space between the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly and camshaft housing sub-assembly to move the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly so that there is no load on the straight pin. Using a screwdriver, remove the valve lift control actuator connector clip from the valve lift control actuator connector. NOTE: Do not drop the valve lift control actuator connector clip into the engine. Remove the 2 nuts and wire harness clamp bracket from the camshaft housing sub-assembly. Remove the bolt from the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly. Remove the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly from the camshaft housing sub-assembly. NOTE: If the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Remove the O-ring from the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly. *1 O-ring Remove the valve lift control actuator connector from the valve rocker shaft assembly.

It is not necessary to perform this measurement when installing a new continuously variable valve lift controller assembly as the protrusion length is 34.57 to 34.73 mm (1.36 to 1.37 in.). If the protrusion length of the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly is not 34.57 to 34.73 mm (1.36 to 1.37 in.), perform the Active Test and adjust the protrusion length to the specified value. Make sure to remove the valve lift control actuator connector before installation. Install the valve lift control actuator connector to the valve rocker shaft assembly. Insert the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly into the camshaft housing sub-assembly. Install the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly to the camshaft housing sub-assembly with the bolt. Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) NOTE: Make sure the O-ring is not caught between the parts. If the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Install the wire harness clamp bracket to the camshaft housing sub-assembly with the 2 nuts. Torque: 18 N*m (184 kgf*cm, 13 ft.*lbf) Using a screwdriver, slide the valve lift control actuator connector clip from the valve lift control actuator connector. NOTE: Slide only the upper part of the valve lift control actuator connector clip, as the straight pin will fall out from the bottom if the valve lift control actuator connector clip is completely removed. Using a screwdriver, lightly pry the valve lift control actuator connector and align the hole in the valve lift control actuator connector with the hole in the continuously variable valve lift controller assembly. - INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY Install the 4 ignition coil assemblies to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)
- CONNECT ENGINE WIRE Connect the engine wire with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts. Torque: 8.4 N*m (86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf) Engage the 9 clamps and connect the 22 connectors.

- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Check the throttle control motor operating sound. Turn the ignition switch to ON. When depressing the accelerator pedal, check the operating sound of the throttle control motor. Make sure that no friction noise is emitted from the throttle control motor. If any friction noise exists, replace the throttle body assembly. Check the throttle position sensor. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position. Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List Tester Display Throttle Sensor Position Depress the accelerator pedal. When the throttle valve is fully open, check that the Throttle Sensor Position value is within specification. Standard Throttle Valve Opening Percentage Tester Display Specified Condition Throttle Sensor Position 60% or higher NOTE: When checking the throttle valve opening percentage, the shift lever should be in N. Fully depress the accelerator pedal. If the percentage is less than 60%, check the throttle body assembly, wire harness and ECM.

- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and disengage the 2 wire harness clamps. Disengage the 2 clamps. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Disconnect the throttle body assembly connector. *1 No. 1 Water By-pass Hose *2 No. 2 Water By-pass Hose Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the No. 1 water by-pass hose and No. 2 water by-pass hose from the throttle body assembly. w/ Stud Bolt: Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and throttle body assembly from the intake manifold. NOTE: If the throttle body assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. w/o Stud Bolt: Remove the 4 bolts and throttle body assembly from the intake manifold. NOTE: If the throttle body assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it.
- REMOVE THROTTLE BODY GASKET Remove the throttle body gasket from the intake manifold.
- INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. *a Component without harness connected (Throttle Body Assembly) Standard Resistance Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (M-) - 2 (M+) 20°C (68°F) 0.3 to 100 ohms If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body assembly.
- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY GASKET Install a new throttle body gasket onto the intake manifold with the protrusion of the throttle body gasket oriented as shown in the illustration. *a Protrusion
- INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY w/ Stud Bolt: Install the throttle body assembly to the intake manifold with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the throttle body assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. w/o Stud Bolt: Install the throttle body assembly to the intake manifold with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) NOTE: If the throttle body assembly has been struck or dropped, replace it. Connect the No. 1 water by-pass hose and No. 2 water by-pass hose to the throttle body assembly and slide the 2 clips to secure them. Connect the throttle body assembly connector.
- INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE Connect the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose to the throttle body assembly. Engage the 2 clamps to install the air cleaner cap with air cleaner hose. Tighten the hose clamp. Torque: 4.0 N*m (41 kgf*cm, 35 in.*lbf) Connect the No. 2 ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover sub-assembly and slide the clip to secure it. Connect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector and engage the 2 wire harness clamps.
- INSTALL NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 64»(ref-635583-S10843495692014070300000) & «PROCEDURE - Step 64»(ref-635583-S17790066882014070300000)
- ADD ENGINE COOLANT Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 2»(ref-635587-S34221687702014070300000)
- INSPECT FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK Refer to «PROCEDURE - Step 1»(ref-635615-S30243093042014070300000)
- PERFORM INITIALIZATION NOTE: Be sure to perform this procedure after removing and reinstalling the throttle body assembly or any throttle body assembly components. Perform the following procedure after replacing the throttle body assembly or any throttle body assembly components. The following procedure should also be performed if the throttle body assembly is cleaned. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3 and clear the DTCs. Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR [08/2013 - ]»(ref-635448-S28277682012014070300000) Turn the ignition switch to ON without operating the accelerator pedal. Perform the "Inspection After Repair".
