CONDITIONING FOR SENSOR TESTING

HINT

Perform the operation with the engine speeds and time durations described below prior to checking the waveforms of the air fuel ratio and heated oxygen sensors. This is to activate the sensors sufficiently to obtain appropriate inspection results.

Scheme 388

Scheme 388: CONDITIONING FOR SENSOR TESTING
  1. (a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
  2. (b) Start the engine and warm it up with all the accessories switched off until the engine coolant temperature stabilizes.
  3. (c) Run the engine at an engine speed of between 2500 RPM and 3000 RPM for at least 3 minutes.
  4. (d) While running the engine at 3000 RPM for 2 seconds, and then 2000 RPM for 2 seconds, check the waveforms of the air fuel ratio and heated oxygen sensors using the Techstream.

HINT

  1. If the voltage output of either the air fuel ratio or heated oxygen sensor does not fluctuate, or there is a noise in the waveform of either sensor, the sensor may be malfunctioning.
  2. If the voltage outputs of both the sensors remain lean or rich, the air fuel ratio may be extremely lean or rich. In such cases, perform the Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor Active Test using the Techstream.
  3. If the Three-way Catalytic Converter (TWC) has deteriorated, the heated oxygen sensor (located behind the Three-way Catalytic Converter [TWC]) voltage output fluctuates up and down frequently, even under normal driving conditions (active air fuel ratio control is not performed).

P0441Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge FlowOne of the following conditions met: Leak detection pump creates negative pressure (vacuum) in EVAP system and EVAP system pressure measured. Reference pressure is measured at start and at end of leak check. If stabilized pressure higher than [second reference pressure x 0.2], ECM determines that purge VSV stuck open. After EVAP leak check performed, purge VSV turned on (open), and atmospheric air introduced into EVAP system. Reference pressure is measured at start and at end of check. If pressure does not return to near atmospheric pressure, ECM determines that purge VSV stuck closed. While engine running, following conditions successively met: Negative pressure not created in EVAP system when purge VSV turned on (open) EVAP system pressure change less than 0.4 kPa(gauge) [3 mmHg(gauge)] when vent valve turned on (closed) Atmospheric pressure change before and after purge flow monitor less than 0.154 kPa(gauge) [1.155 mmHg(gauge)]Purge VSV Purge line Connector/wire harness (Purge VSV - ECM) ECM Canister pump module Canister (filter inside canister clogged) Leak from EVAP systemComes onDTC storedDTC for Mexico Models - Not apply

P0455Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Gross Leak)Leak detection pump creates negative pressure (vacuum) in EVAP system and EVAP system pressure is measured. Reference pressure is measured at start and end of leak check. If stabilized pressure is higher than [second reference pressure x 0.2], ECM determines that EVAP system has a large leak.Fuel cap (loose) Leakage from EVAP line (canister - fuel tank) Leakage from EVAP line (purge VSV - canister) Leakage from canister pump module Leakage from fuel tank Leakage from canisterComes onDTC storedDTC for Mexico Models - Not apply
