Timing, Check
Remove air cleaner housing - see operation "Air Cleaner Housing, Remove and Install". Remove air intake hose.
Turn crankshaft slowly and uniformly in engine rotational direction until the piston of the 1st cylinder is at "ignition TDC".
Piston of 1st cylinder is at "TDC" if the pin on the oil pump aligns with the mark on the crankshaft pulley.
To check "1st cylinder TDC": Disconnect fluid filler opening cap. 2nd cam of 1st cylinder must point diagonally upwards.
Attach engine to Engine Bridge MKM-883-1.
Remove fastening nuts (1) and remove upper engine damping block bracket. Remove fastening bolts (3) and remove lower engine damping block bracket.
For vehicles with air conditioning: Release V-belt for compressor. Remove fastening bolts for V-belt tensioner (2) and remove V-belt tensioner and intermediate plate.
Remove upper toothed belt cover.
Install TDC fixing bolts (1) in camshaft drive gear and injection pump drive gear.

If correctly adjusted, the TDC fixing bolts (1) must be able to be inserted in the drive gears for the camshaft and injection pump in this position.
If the TDC fixing bolts cannot be inserted, the adjustment must be corrected.
