How to Check the Compression Opel Astra G

Remove

1. 1. Open driver's door
2. 2. Stop injection with TECH II • Remove cover (1) • Remove protective cap (2) • Connect TECH II to socket (3)

3. 3. Open bonnet
4. 4. Remove bonnet (2) • Remove oil filler cap (1) • Pull off engine cover – 3 off • Replace oil filler cap

Note. Rubber retainers (3) must remain in cover

5. 5. Remove air intake manifold (1) • Unclip wiring harness – 3 clips • 2 clips • 2 fastening bolts

6. 6. Remove sheathed glow plug • 4 wiring harness plugs (1) – using KM-717 • 4 sheathed glow plugs (2) – using MKM-6104

Inspect

7. 7. Connect compression recorder to cylinder 1 • Fit KM-6367 • Connect compression recorder to KM-533-B

Note. Use a compression recorder with a measuring range of 10 to 40 bar

8. 8. Compression, Check • Operate starter for approx. 4 seconds – Minimum engine speed 150 rpm – 2 people

Note. The pressure difference between the individual cylinders should not exceed 100 kPa (1 bar).

9. 9. Remove compression recorder with KM-6367 from cylinder 1
10. 10. Repeat the test procedure on cylinders 2, 3 and 4

Install

11. 11. Install sheathed glow plugs • 4 sheathed glow plugs – using MKM-6104 – Tightening torque 17.5 Nm • 4 wiring harness plugs
12. 12. Install air intake pipe. • 2 clips – Tightening torque 3.5 Nm • 2 fastening bolts • Clip wiring harness into position – 3 clips
13. 13. Install engine cover • Remove oil filler cap • Push in engine cover – 3 rubber retainers • Replace oil filler cap
14. 14. Close bonnet
15. 15. Remove TECH II • Remove TECH II from socket • Fit safety cap • Fit cover
16. 16. Close driver's door
