Carbon Accumulation Check

Note. If the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) has been reported on, check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Scheme 344: Carbon Accumulation Check
  1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, go to «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-333558-S02093989162009072100000) .
  4. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in P or N) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
  5. Check the REL TP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS. The reading should be below 2.56 deg. If it is not, clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).

Throttle Position Learning Check

Scheme 345: Throttle Position Learning Check
  1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the PCM. If it doesn't, go to «DLC CIRCUIT TROUBLESHOOTING»(ref-333558-S02093989162009072100000) .
  4. Select the INSPECTION MENU with HDS.
  5. Do the TP LEARNING CHECK in the ETCS TEST. If needed, clean the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).

Throttle Body Cleaning

CAUTIONDo not insert your fingers into the installed throttle body when you turn the ignition switch ON (II) or while the ignition switch is ON (II). If you do, you will seriously injure your fingers if the throttle valve is activated.

  1. Check for damage to the air cleaner. If the air cleaner is damaged, replace it (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).
  2. Remove the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333563-S04881410422009072100000) ).
  3. Clean off the carbon from the throttle valve and inside the throttle body with a paper towel soaked in throttle plate and induction cleaner. NOTE: Remove the throttle body to clean it. Be careful not to pinch your fingers. To avoid removing the molybdenum coating, do not clean the bearing area of the throttle shaft (A). Do not spray throttle plate and induction cleaner directly on the throttle body. Use Honda genuine throttle plate and induction cleaner.
  4. Install the throttle body (see «THROTTLE BODY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333563-S04881410422009072100000) ).
  5. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait 2 seconds.
  7. Do «PCM IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE»(ref-333561-S36442749152009072100000) .

Scheme 347: Air Cleaner Removal/Installation
  1. Disconnect the MAF sensor/IAT sensor connector (A).
  2. Remove the harness clamps (B) and the bolts (C).
  3. Loosen the band (D), then remove the air cleaner (E).
  4. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: When tightening the screw of the hose band (F), align the edge of the hose band (G) within the range of the marks (H) painted on the hose band.

Scheme 348: Air Cleaner Element Inspection/Replacement
  1. Open the air cleaner housing cover (A).
  2. Remove the air cleaner element (B) from the air cleaner housing (C). NOTE: Be careful when removing the element, and do not turn it upside down. Debris from the element may fall into the MAF sensor/IAT sensor.
  3. Check the air cleaner element for damage or clogging. If there is damage or clogging, replace it. NOTE: Do not use compressed air to clean the air cleaner element.
  4. Clean and remove any debris from inside the air cleaner housing.
  5. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. If you did not replace the air cleaner element, this procedure is complete. If the maintenance information required air cleaner element replacement, reset the maintenance minder (see «MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY»(ref-333543-S19439314552009072100000) ). If the idle speed fluctuates, do the idle speed inspection procedure «IDLE SPEED INSPECTION»(ref-333561-S36063228922009072100000) .

Scheme 349: Intake Air Resonator Removal/Installation
  1. Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333608-S42868124562009072100000) ).
  2. Remove the air cleaner (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(ref-333563-S07939488122009072100000) ).
  3. Remove the front bumper (see «FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333589-S35526460782009072100000) ).
  4. Remove the seal (A).
  5. Remove the bolts (B), then remove the intake air resonator (C) from the engine compartment.
  6. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
  7. Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-333608-S42868124562009072100000) ).

Scheme 350

Scheme 350: IMT Actuator Replacement
  1. Remove the engine cover (see step 1 on «IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-333546-S38274197062009072100000) ).
  2. Disconnect the IMT actuator connector (A).
  3. Remove the bolts (B) and the IMT actuator (C).
  4. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring (D).
