Removal
Note. The ATF filter is maintenance free. Replace only when there is oil leakage from the joining area to the transmission.
- Drain ATF completely. (Scheme 5) NOTE: Tighten ATF drain plug after draining ATF.
- Using oil filter wrench, remove ATF filter. (Scheme 6)
- Get new ATF filter and apply a thin coat of ATF to the oil seal.

Installation
- Install ATF filter. Turn it by hand, being careful not to damage oil seal.
- Using oil filter wrench, tighten ATF filter to transmission case. CAUTION: Align oil filter wrench with torque wrench while tightening ATF filter.
- Add ATF.
- Move select lever to neutral position.
- Remove air intake chamber and duct.
- Disconnect inhibitor switch connector. (Scheme 7)
- Remove center exhaust pipe.
- Remove snap pin from range select lever. (Scheme 8)
- Remove plate assembly from transmission case. (Scheme 9)
- Remove bolts. (Scheme 10)
- Move range select lever to parking position (left side). (Scheme 11)
- Remove inhibitor switch from transmission. (Scheme 12)

- Install inhibitor switch to transmission case. (Scheme 12)
- Move range select lever to neutral position.
- Using stopper pin, tighten bolts of inhibitor switch. (Scheme 10)
- Install select cable to range select lever.
- Install plate assembly to transmission. (Scheme 9)
- Install snap pin to range select lever. (Scheme 8)
- Install center exhaust pipe.
- Connect inhibitor switch connector. (Scheme 7)
- Install air intake chamber and duct.
Removal & Installation
- Clean transmission exterior. NOTE: Tighten ATF drain plug after draining ATF.
- Drain ATF completely. (Scheme 5)
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove the heat shield cover.
- Remove the propeller shaft. See Refer to REMOVAL, Propeller Shaft.
- Using puller assembly, remove the oil seal.
- Using installer, install the oil seal.
- Install the propeller shaft. See appropriate Refer to REMOVAL, Propeller Shaft.
- Install the heat shield cover.
- Install the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Pour ATF and check the ATF level.
- Prior to removal, set lever to "N" position.
- Remove under cover. CAUTION: When removing exhaust pipes, be careful each exhaust pipe does not drop out.
- Remove rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove heat shield cover.
- Remove snap pin from range select lever. (Scheme 13)
- Remove plate assembly from transmission case. (Scheme 14)
- Disconnect cable from select lever and then remove cable bracket. see scheme 3
- Remove select from plate assembly.

- Install select cable to plate assembly.
- Install select cable to range select lever.
- Install plate assembly to transmission. (Scheme 14)
- Install snap pin to range select lever. (Scheme 13)
- Move the select lever to the "N" position, then adjust the select cable position. See «SELECT CABLE»(ref-168997-S25036695832004112300000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
- Install heat shield cover.
- Clean transmission exterior. NOTE: Tighten ATF drain plug after draining ATF.
- Drain ATF completely. (Scheme 5) NOTE: Remove and clean the magnet. Remove the old gasket on the oil pan and transmission case completely.
- Remove oil pan.
- Disconnect duty solenoids and ATF temperature sensor connectors. Remove connectors from clip and disconnect connectors at 9 places. (Scheme 15) CAUTION: When removing control valve body, be careful not to interfere with transfer duty solenoid wiring.
- Remove the control valve. (Scheme 16)

- Set the select lever in "N" position.
- Install the control valve and ground earth connectors. (Scheme 16)
- Connect all connector. (Scheme 15)
- Attach the magnet at the specified position. (Scheme 17)
- Apply proper amount of liquid gasket to the entire oil pan mating surface. (Scheme 18)
- Install the oil pan.
- Pour ATF into the oil charge pipe.
- Check the level of the ATF.
