Front Differential
Park vehicle on level surface with engine off. Remove Yellow handled dipstick located on top of differential and clean with cloth. (Scheme 19) Check fluid level. Level should be between "C" and "B" marks. Add fluid if necessary.

Transaxle
Use Dexron IIE or Dexron III ATF.
Front Differentials
Use API GL-5 80W-90 gear oil.
- Allow engine to cool for 3-4 hours. Raise and support vehicle. Remove drain plug. Drain transmission fluid into proper container. If cleaning oil screen, remove oil pan. Apply an even bead of Liquid Gasket (1217B) when reassembling. Tighten all bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-168997-S14108536602004112300000) .
- Fill transaxle with fluid. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Shift gear selector through all positions, ending in Park. Check fluid level with engine idling. Add fluid as necessary. DO NOT overfill.
INHIBITOR SWITCH
Inhibitor switch allows back-up lights to turn on when gear selector lever is in "R" position, and allows starter to operate when in "P" or "N" position. Inhibitor switch supplies input signal for each range and turns on corresponding range light on instrument panel.
SELECT CABLE
Move select lever from "P" position to "1" position. You should be able to feel the dententes in each position. If the detentes cannot be felt or the position pointer is improperly aligned, adjust the cable.
- Prior to removal, set lever to "N" position.
- Remove rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove heat shield cover.
- Loosen the adjusting nut on each side. (Scheme 20)
- Turn adjusting nut "B" until it lightly touches the connector. (Scheme 21)
- While preventing adjusting nut "B" from moving with a wrench, tighten adjusting nut "A". (Scheme 22)
- After completion of fitting, make sure that the select lever operates smoothly all across the operating range.
