- Release fuel rail pressure then disconnect the fuel supply quick connect fitting at the fuel rail. Refer to «STANDARD PROCEDURE»(ref-457834-S04226998202012030200000) and «FITTING, QUICK CONNECT»(ref-457834-S36340154892012030200000) .
- Disconnect the battery negative and positive cables.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Remove exhaust crossover pipe (5) from exhaust manifolds.
- 4X4 vehicles Disconnect axle vent tube from left side engine mount.
- Remove the through bolt retaining nut and bolt from both the left and right side engine mounts.
- 4X4 vehicles Remove locknut from left and right side engine mount brackets.
- Disconnect two ground straps from the lower left hand side and one ground strap from the lower right hand side of the engine.
- Disconnect crankshaft position sensor (1). NOTE: The following step applies to 4X4 vehicles equipped with automatic transmission only.
- 4X4 vehicles Remove the axle isolator bracket from the engine, transmission and the axle.
- Remove structural cover. Refer to «COVER, Structural Dust , Removal , 4.7L»(ref-457796-S31446606602012030200000) .
- Remove starter (4). Refer to «STARTER , Removal»(ref-457802-S39254669482012030200000) .
- Drain cooling system. Refer to «Standard Procedure»(ref-457792-S30781673372012030200000) .
- Remove torque converter bolts (Automatic Transmission Only).
- Remove transmission to engine mounting bolts.
- Disconnect the engine block heater power cable from the block heater, if equipped.
- Lower vehicle.
- Remove throttle body resonator assembly and air inlet hose.
- Disconnect throttle and speed control cables.
- Disconnect tube from both the left and right side crankcase breathers (1). Remove breathers.
- Discharge A/C system. Refer to «Plumbing , Standard Procedure»(ref-457787-S01365783702012030200000) .
- Remove A/C compressor (2). Refer to «COMPRESSOR, A/C , Removal»(ref-457787-S14624345472012030200000) .
- Remove shroud, fan assembly and accessory drive belt.
- Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at the radiator.
- Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses.
- Remove radiator, A/C condenser and transmission oil cooler. Refer to «RADIATOR, Engine Cooling , Removal»(ref-457792-S21225288992012030200000) and «CONDENSER, A/C , Removal»(ref-457787-S16872234702012030200000) .
- Remove generator (3). Refer to «GENERATOR , Removal»(ref-457799-S36013499732012030200000) .
- Disconnect the two heater hoses from the timing chain cover and heater core.
- Unclip (2) and remove heater hoses (1) and tubes from the intake manifold.
- Remove power steering pump and position out of the way.
- Remove intake manifold.
- Install Engine Lifting Fixture (special tool #10101, Fixture, Engine Lifting).
- Disconnect body ground strap (1) at the right side cowl.
- Disconnect ground strap (1) at the left side cowl. NOTE: It will be necessary to support the transmission in order to remove the engine.
- Position a suitable jack under the transmission.
- Remove engine from the vehicle.
Scheme 158
- Position engine in the vehicle.
- Position both the left and right side engine mount brackets and install the through bolts and nuts. Tighten nuts to 4X2 vehicles 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.). 4X4 vehicles 102 N.m (75 ft. lbs.).
- 4X4 vehicles Install locknuts onto the engine mount brackets. Tighten locknuts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).
- Remove jack from under the transmission.
- Remove Engine Lifting Fixture (special tool #10101, Fixture, Engine Lifting) (1).
- Connect right (1) side ground straps.
- Connect left (1) side ground straps.
- Install intake manifold.
- Position generator wiring behind the oil dipstick tube, then install the oil dipstick tube upper mounting bolt.
- Install power steering pump.
- Connect fuel supply line quick connect fitting. Refer to «FITTING, QUICK CONNECT»(ref-457834-S36340154892012030200000) .
- Install generator. Refer to «GENERATOR , Installation»(ref-457799-S02313752592012030200000) .
- Install A/C condenser. Refer to «CONDENSER, A/C , Installation»(ref-457787-S28795394962012030200000) .
- Install radiator and transmission oil cooler. Refer to «RADIATOR, Engine Cooling , Installation»(ref-457792-S25692808462012030200000) .
- Connect radiator upper and lower hoses.
- Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator.
- Install accessory drive belt, fan assembly and shroud.
- Install A/C compressor (2). Refer to «COMPRESSOR, A/C , Installation»(ref-457787-S06271131602012030200000) .
- Install throttle body resonator assembly and air inlet hose. Tighten clamps 4 N.m (35 in. lbs.).
- Raise vehicle.
- Install transmission to engine mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).
- Install torque converter bolts (Automatic Transmission Only).
- Connect crankshaft position sensor (1).
- 4X4 vehicles Position and install the axle isolator bracket onto the axle, transmission and engine block. Tighten bolts to specification. Refer to «Specifications»(ref-457796-S29075114712012030200000) .
- Install starter (4). Refer to «STARTER , Installation»(ref-457802-S22328630612012030200000) . CAUTION: The structural cover requires a specific torque sequence. Failure to follow this sequence may cause severe damage to the cover.
- Install structural cover. Refer to «COVER, Structural Dust , Installation , 4.7L»(ref-457796-S13975014522012030200000) .
- Install exhaust crossover pipe (5).
- Install engine block heater power cable, if equipped.
- 4X4 vehicles Connect axle vent tube to left side engine mount.
- Lower vehicle.
- Fill engine with clean oil.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to «Plumbing , Standard Procedure»(ref-457787-S01365783702012030200000) .
- Refill the engine cooling system. Refer to «Standard Procedure»(ref-457792-S30781673372012030200000) .
- Connect the battery positive and negative cables.
- Start the engine and check for leaks.
