New X 22 XE DOHC Petrol Engine
This engine is a member of the new ECOTEC engine generation from Opel/Vauxhall.
Its most important features are:
- 4 valves per cylinder.
- Direct ignition.
- Motronic 1.5.4 engine management system.
- Knock control.
- Electronically controlled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
- Secondary air injection (AIR = air injection reactor).
- Oil cooler.
- Air intake resonator.
Under certain operating conditions, an electric pump (secondary air injection) feeds air to the exhaust manifold, improving hydrocarbon combustion. In addition, this process increases the exhaust temperature, leading to a faster catalytic converter response.
