Piston ring grooves - use ground - down side of old piston ring.

Piston ring gap clearance - use feeler gauge.
Insert piston ring at narrowest point on cylinder bore.
Piston ring heights - use feeler gauge in piston ring groove.

New piston rings with 'Top' uppermost - use commercially available pliers.
Position ring gaps:
I - Compression rings 180° to each other as illustrated.
| II - Offset oil control rings 25 to 50 mm / 1 to 2 in. from gap of second compression ring. | |||
