Starter Check (Installed) Opel Campo I

Inspect

Battery – charged and earth connected; terminals tight unbroken not oxidised.

Ground connections for alternator engine body battery – satisfactory.

Positive cable battery/starter/alternator – tight unbroken with voltage drop in leads during starting to be less than 0.5 V.

Caution

If voltage drop is greater than 0.5 V determine cause and rectify.

Install

Opel Tester for voltage and current measurement according to operating instructions.

Red connector to battery positive terminal and black connector to battery negative terminal.

Clamp-on probe to cable between battery and starter – arrow on probe points away from battery.

Inspect

Starter function – engage top gear apply foot and parking brakes and engage starter using starter key switch.

Test values:

  • 4JA1T/4JA1TC engine – 8.76 V/300 A or less.
  • 4JG2T engine – 3 V/1300 A or less.

Caution

Maximum duration of test 5 seconds to prevent overheating.
