Replace Thermostat Housing Opel Astra H

Remove

  1. 1. Disconnect battery • Detach earth cable
  2. 2. Remove engine cover.
  1. 3. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield, air cleaner housing • Detach engine transport shackle (2) – Unscrew nut (1) • Unscrew 3x stud bolt (3)
  2. 4. Raise vehicle by its full height
  3. 5. Place collecting pan by its full height
  4. 6. Unscrew coolant pump coolant drain bolt
  5. 7. Lower vehicle by its full height
  6. 8. Drain coolant • Unscrew closure cap of coolant expansion tank

Note. Opening the coolant compensation tank accelerates coolant drainage

  1. 9. Detach wiring harness plug for coolant temperature sensor (1) • Unclip wiring harness (2)
  2. 10. Detach coolant hose (3) • From thermostat housing
  1. 11. Detach 2x heating hose • From radiator
  2. 12. Remove thermostat housing • Unscrew stud bolt (3) • Unscrew 2x bolts (1)

Note. Pull thermostat housing with coolant pipe (2) out of coolant pump

Install

  1. 13. Install coolant pipe • Replace 2x coolant pipe seal ring • Insert coolant pipe – In thermostat housing

Note. Coat gasket lightly with silicone grease (white)

Note. Sprue on coolant pipe engages in recess on thermostat housing

  1. 14. Install thermostat housing • Replace gasket • Tighten 2x bolt 9 Nm • Tighten stud bolt 9 Nm

Note. Coat gasket lightly with silicone grease (white)

  1. 15. Attach 2x heater hose • On radiator, thermostat housing
  2. 16. Attach coolant hose • To thermostat housing
  3. 17. Connect wiring harness plug for coolant temperature sensor • Attach wiring harness
  4. 18. Attach exhaust manifold heat shield • Detach 2x wiring harness plug, oxygen sensor • Tighten 2 stud bolts 23 Nm • Tighten bolt • Install wiring harness bracket – Tighten nut – Tighten bolt

Note. Insert engine transport shackle

  1. 19. Attach engine cover
  2. 20. Raise vehicle by its full height
  3. 21. Install coolant pump coolant drain bolt • Insert bolt with commercially available Teflon strip 20 Nm
  4. 22. Close coolant drain screw
  5. 23. Lower vehicle by its full height
  6. 24. Top up coolant • Observe specified coolant quantity

Note. Fill and bleed cooling system

  1. 25. Connect battery
  2. 26. Close bonnet
  3. 27. Program volatile memories
