Check Engine for Leaks Opel Astra H

Cooling System 1 illustration ~166 words

Note. Engine at operating temperature (oil temperature >= 80 °C).

Inspect

  1. 1. Check coolant level • Top up coolant to COLD mark if necessary
  2. 2. With engine running, place tester (1) on coolant compensation tank.
  3. 3. Test engine for leaks • The air is drawn out of the coolant expansion tank by the operation of the rubber boot – If the blue liquid in the top chamber of the tester turns yellow, the cylinder head gasket or the cylinder head is leaking

Note. The transparent cylinder of the tester contain a blue reactive fluid that turns yellow if air is drawn in that contains the slightest traces of carbon monoxide. When fresh air is drawn in the test fluid is regenerated, i.e. it turns blue again

Note. No coolant must be drawn in

  1. 4. Testing the tester • The liquid can be tested by drawing in the exhaust from the exhaust pipe – In this case the test liquid must turn yellow
