How to Remove and Install the Alternator Opel Astra G

Remove

Disconnect earth cable from battery.

Remove air cleaner housing with hot film mass air flow meter and air intake cover - see illustration "Air Ducts X 12 XE" or "Air Ducts Z 12 XE" or "Air Ducts Z 14 XEP".

Remove ribbed V-belts – see operation "Ribbed V-belts, Remove and Install".

Remove ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install".

Remove upper fastening bolt (3) for alternator.

Loosen lower alternator fastening bolt (2) and swing alternator to the rear.

Remove wiring connections (1) from alternator.

Remove lower alternator fastening bolt and remove alternator upwards.

Note. Check alternator – see operation "Alternator, Check" (X 16 XEL Engine) in group "J".

Disassemble and reassemble alternator – see operation "Bosch Compact Alternator, Disassemble and Reassemble" (X 16 XEL Engine) in group "J".

Install

Attach alternator with lower fastening bolt to timing case/ cylinder block – do not fully tighten.

Attach cable connections to alternator.

Attach alternator with upper fastening bolt to timing case/ cylinder block- tightening torque 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft.

Tighten lower fastening bolt – tightening torque 35 Nm / 26 lbf. ft.

Install ribbed V-belt tensioner – see operation "Ribbed V-belt Tensioner, Remove and Install".

Install ribbed V-belt – see operation "Ribbed V-belt, Remove and Install".

Install air cleaner housing with hot film mass air flow meter and air intake cover - see illustration "Air Ducts X 12 XE" or "Air Ducts Z 12 XE" or "Air Ducts Z 14 XEP".

Connect earth cable to battery.
