  1. INSTALL PLANETARY GEAR Apply grease to the planetary gears and pin parts of the planetary shaft. Install the 3 planetary gears.
  2. INSTALL RUBBER SEAL Install the rubber seal.
  3. INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY Apply grease to the plate washer and a new snap ring. NOTE: Be sure to install the snap ring in the armature shaft groove securely. Be sure to properly install the snap ring because it expands easily. Install the starter armature to the starter commutator end frame. Using snap ring pliers, install the plate washer and a new snap ring. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Snap Ring Pliers Using a vernier caliper, measure the length of the snap ring. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Length Maximum length 5.0 mm (0.196 in.) If the length is greater than the maximum, replace it with a new snap ring.
  4. INSTALL STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME COVER Install the end frame cover to the commutator end frame.
  5. INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE PLATE Insert the starter armature plate to the starter yoke. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Keyway *2 Key Align the keyway of the starter armature plate with the key inside the starter yoke, and install the starter armature plate.
  6. INSTALL STARTER COMMUTATOR END FRAME ASSEMBLY Align the rubber of the end frame with the cutout of the starter yoke. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Cutout *2 Rubber Install the end frame to the starter yoke. NOTE: The magnet of the starter yoke may attract the starter armature when the starter commutator end frame is installed, causing the magnet to break.
  7. INSTALL STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY Align the protrusion of the starter yoke with the cutout of the repair service starter kit. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *1 Cutout *2 Protrusion Install the starter yoke with the 2 through-bolts. Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
  8. INSTALL MAGNETIC SWITCH ASSEMBLY Apply grease to the plunger and the hook. Hang the plunger hook of the magnetic switch to the drive lever. Install the magnetic switch with the 2 nuts. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Connect the lead wire to the magnetic switch with the nut. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

  1. INSTALL PLANETARY GEAR Apply high-temperature grease to the planetary gears and pin parts of the planetary shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION High-temperature grease Install the 3 planetary gears.
  2. INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY Apply high-temperature grease to the starter armature shaft. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION High-temperature grease Apply high-temperature grease to the washer and bearing as shown in the illustration. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION High-temperature grease Install the starter armature assembly to the starter commutator end frame assembly. Using snap ring pliers, install the washer and a new snap ring. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Snap Ring Pliers NOTE: Be sure to install the snap ring in the starter armature shaft groove securely. Be sure to properly install the snap ring because it expands easily. If the length is greater than the maximum, replace the snap ring with a new one.

  4. INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE PLATE Insert the starter armature plate to the starter yoke assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Keyway *b Key Align the keyway of the starter armature plate with the key inside the starter yoke assembly, and install the starter armature plate.
  5. INSTALL STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY Align the rubber of the starter commutator end frame assembly with the cutout of the starter yoke assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Cutout *b Rubber Install the starter commutator end frame assembly to the starter yoke assembly. NOTE: The magnet of the starter yoke assembly may attract the starter armature assembly when the starter commutator end frame assembly is installed, causing the magnet to break. Align the protrusion of the starter yoke assembly with the cutout of the starter drive housing assembly. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Cutout *b Protrusion Install the starter yoke assembly with the 2 through-bolts. Torque: 6.0 N*m (61 kgf*cm, 53 in.*lbf)
  6. INSTALL REPAIR SERVICE STARTER KIT Apply high-temperature grease to the plunger. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION *a Hook High-temperature grease Hang the hook of the plunger on the drive lever. Apply high-temperature grease to the return spring. TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION High-temperature grease Install the plunger and return spring. Install the magnet switch with the 2 screws. Torque: 7.5 N*m (76 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf) Connect the lead wire to the magnet switch with the nut. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

  1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY Install the starter assembly with the 2 bolts. Torque: 37 N*m (377 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) Using a 12 mm union nut wrench, connect the wire harness to the starter assembly with the nut. Torque: 9.8 N*m (100 kgf*cm, 87 in.*lbf) NOTE: Use the torque value compensation formula to calculate the torque value for use when a torque wrench is combined with a tool such as a union nut wrench. Refer to «PRECAUTION [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602551-S11461672722014030500000) . Cover the terminal cap. Connect the connector.
  2. CONNECT ENGINE WIRE Install the 3 bolts. Bolt A Torque: 19 N*m (195 kgf*cm, 14 ft.*lbf) Bolt B Torque: 8.4 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf) Connect the clamp and the 2 connectors. Connect the clamp and the connector.

  10. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK ASSEMBLY Install the windshield wiper motor and link assembly. Refer to «INSTALLATION [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602723-S36271851472014030500000) .

  1. PRECAUTION NOTE: After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work. Refer to «PRECAUTION [03/2012 - ]»(ref-602551-S11461672722014030500000) .
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WARNING: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. Refer to «PRECAUTION [03/2012 - 07/2012]»(ref-602724-S22259792752014030500000) NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
