Code Definition

1. DTC P0171: Fuel System Too Lean
2. DTC P0172: Fuel System Too Rich

Note. Before performing any diagnostic test, refer toWARNINGS, CAUTIONS and NOTES in DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .

Note. Testing individual components does not isolate shorts or opens. Perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

Diagnostic Aids

Lambda controller block on minimum or maximum limit. Check for following possible problems

1. Intake or exhaust system leak.
2. Faulty EVAP Purge Control Solenoid Valve (PCSV).
3. Faulty fuel delivery system.
4. Faulty ignition system.
5. Faulty Heater Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor, Throttle Position (TP) sensor.
