Code Definition

1. DTC P0139: Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction
2. DTC P0140: Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction - Stuck

Note. Before performing any diagnostic test, refer toWARNINGS, CAUTIONS and NOTES in DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .

Note. Testing individual components does not isolate shorts or opens. Perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

Diagnostic Aids

When Engine/Transaxle Control Module (E/TCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM) is monitoring HO2S checks for open circuit in HO2S output line. Input voltage supplied to E/TCM or ECM interface circuit is 4.5 volts or more, when 5 volts is applied to HO2S output line via resistor. Making air-fuel ratio 15% richer does not result in rasing HO2S output voltage beyond 0.1 volts. Check for following possible problems

1. Open or short in wire between rear HO2S and E/TCM or ECM.
2. Short in wire between rear HO2S and E/TCM or ECM.
3. Short between rear HO2S wires.
4. Misplaced, bent, loose or corroded rear HO2S or E/TCM or ECM connector terminals.
5. Faulty rear HO2S.
