- Install scan tool. Start engine and check if DTC P0335 is present. If DTC is present, go to next step. If DTC is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in «TESTS W/O CODES»(ref-16659) article. Also check for faulty ECT sensor, faulty idle speed control motor or misadjusted idle speed. If engine does not start, check for broken timing belt, faulty CMP sensor or ignition system problem.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check voltage between sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and ground. See appropriate wiring diagram in «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-16646) article. Battery voltage should be present. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check circuit between terminal No. 1 and SFI relay. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, check continuity between sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and ground. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, check circuit between terminal No. 3 and ground. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, check voltage between sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and ground. DVOM should read 4.8-5.2 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check circuit between terminal No. 2 and ECM. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect CKP sensor harness connector. Using scan tool, check idle speed display. See CKP SENSOR IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS table. If reading is not as specified, replace CKP sensor. Clear DTC. See CLEARING CODES under Self Diagnostic System section. Retest system. If DTC resets, replace ECM.
