MODULE NETWORK INPUT MESSAGES - ACM

The PAM calculates the distance to an object within the 170 degree semicircular (azimuth) area around the front and/or rear of the vehicle. A variable-rate warning tone is generated through the audio speakers.

The rear parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the rear of the vehicle using 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid sensors detect objects approximately 1, 524 mm (60 in) from the rear of the vehicle, 508 mm (20 in) from the rear side of the vehicle, and 304.8 mm (12 in) above the ground.

The front parking aid system calculates the distance to an object around the front of the vehicle using 4 ultrasonic sensors. The parking aid sensors detect objects approximately 685.8 mm (27 in) from the front of the vehicle, 457.2 mm (18 in) from the front side of the vehicle, 304.8 mm (12 in) above the ground.

Parking Aid Audible Alert

Note. On vehicles with Sony® Sound the audio DSP module uses a hardwired input from the ACM to activate the alert.

The audio speaker volume is reduced when the parking aid warning tone sounds. The audio speaker increases its warning tone rate as the vehicle gets closer to an obstacle. When an object is detected within 304.8 mm (12 in) of the sensors, the warning tone becomes continuous. Objects to the rear side generates a continuous tone only for 3 seconds if the object is stationary or receding from the vehicle.

The tone is prioritized to the system (front or rear) which has an object closer to the bumper. Tone alternates between front and rear audio speakers if an object is closer than 254 mm (10 in) front and rear.

Parking Aid Sensors

The parking aid sensors are wide beam ultrasonic sensors. The sensors continuously send out ultrasonic signals to detect objects and communicate the information back to the PAM.

Only objects which reflect enough sound waves are detected by the sensors. This varies due to the shape, surface properties and size of objects being detected. Incorrect sensor alignment, dirt covered sensors, heavy rain and snow can cause objects not to be recognized.

Parking Aid Module (PAM)

The PAM calculates and reports, via audible output, the distance between the rear of the vehicle (and front, if equipped) and an object.

The PAM can be diagnosed with a scan tool.

Parking Aid Module (PAM) Switch (if equipped)

The PAM switch is intrigral with the Active Park Assist switch. It is a momentary contact switch with an LED. The switch input directly to the PAM.

  1. B1 CHECK THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Is the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to B2. No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness.
  2. B2 CHECK THE LEFT REAR OUTER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Left Rear Outer Parking Aid Sensor C4009. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B48:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to B3. No : INSTALL a new left rear outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR - REAR»(ref-569603-S19507621142013072700000) .
  3. B3 CHECK THE RIGHT REAR OUTER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Right Rear Outer Parking Aid Sensor C4011. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B44:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to B4. No : INSTALL a new right rear outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR - REAR»(ref-569603-S19507621142013072700000) .
  4. B4 CHECK THE RIGHT REAR INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Right Rear Inner Parking Aid Sensor C4012. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B46:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to B5. No : INSTALL a new right rear inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR - REAR»(ref-569603-S19507621142013072700000) .
  5. B5 CHECK THE LEFT REAR INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Left Rear Inner Parking Aid Sensor C4010. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B50:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Using a scan tool, clear the DTCs and repeat the self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to B6. No : INSTALL a new left rear inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR - REAR»(ref-569603-S19507621142013072700000) .
  6. B6 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PAM C4014C. Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014C-11 LMP07 (BU/WH) - Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to B7. No : REPAIR the circuit.

B7 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT AND GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TOGETHER Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014C-11 LMP07 (BU/WH) C4014C-8 RMP07 (GN/WH) Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to B8. No : REPAIR the affected circuits.
  8. B8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all the PAM connectors. Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-569603-S04307691352013072700000) . No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections.   1. C1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Using a scan tool, perform PAM self-test. Are multiple DTCs recorded? Yes : GO to C2. No : For DTC B1B44:14, B1B46:14, B1B48:14 or B1B50:14, GO to C3 . For all other DTCs, REFER to the «PAM DTC Chart»(ref-569603-S40483694982013082100000) .
  2. C2 CHECK THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Is the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to C3. No : REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness.

Is DTC B1B57:11 still present? Yes : GO to I5. No : INSTALL a new left front inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR - FRONT»(ref-569603-S31714781862013072700000) .
  5. I5 CHECK THE RIGHT FRONT INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Right Front Inner Parking Aid Sensor C1430. Ignition ON. No : REPAIR the circuit.

  2. J2 CHECK THE LED CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014A-13 CMP02 (GN/BU) - Ground Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. No : GO to J3.
  3. J3 CHECK THE LED CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Ignition OFF. Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014A-13 CP02 (GN/BU) C2114-7 CMP02 (GN/BU) Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : GO to J4. No : REPAIR the circuit.
  4. J4 CHECK THE CENTER STACK SWITCH ASSEMBLY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C2114-12 GD133 (BK) - Ground Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : For the LED indicator always on, GO to J6 . For the LED indicator never on, GO to J5. No : REPAIR the circuit.
  5. J5 CHECK LED INDICATOR FUNCTION WITH CIRCUIT BYPASSED Connect: Center Stack Switch Assembly C2114. Connect a fused jumper wire between: Lead 1 Lead 2 Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014A-1 CBR01 (BU) C4014A-13 CMP02 (GN/BU) Does the LED indicator illuminate? Yes : GO to J6. No : INSTALL a new active park assist switch. REFER to «ACTIVE PARK ASSIST»(ref-569602) .
  6. J6 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all the PAM connectors. Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-569603-S04307691352013072700000) . No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

  1. O1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Using a scan tool, perform PAM self-test. Are any DTCs recorded? Yes : For DTC B1C30:73, GO to O2. For all other DTCs, REFER to the «PAM DTC Chart»(ref-569603-S40483694982013082100000) . No : GO to O4 .
  2. O2 CHECK THE CENTER STACK SWITCH ASSEMBLY FOR AN INTERNAL FAULT Disconnect: Center Stack Switch Assembly C2114. Using a scan tool, perform PAM self-test. Is DTC B1C30:73 still present? Yes : GO to O3. No : INSTALL a active park assist switch. REFER to «ACTIVE PARK ASSIST»(ref-569602) .
  3. O3 CHECK THE DISABLE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PAM C4014A. Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014A-4 CMP18 (GN/BN) - Ground Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to O7 . No : REPAIR the circuit.
  4. O4 CHECK THE DISABLE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C4014A-4 CMP18 (GN/BN) C2114-3 CMP18 (GN/BN) Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : GO to O5. No : REPAIR the circuit.
  5. O5 CHECK THE CENTER STACK SWITCH ASSEMBLY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between: Positive Lead Negative Lead Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C2114-12 GD133 (BK) - Ground Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes : GO to O6. No : REPAIR the circuit.

O6 CHECK SYSTEM OPERATION WITH CENTER STACK SWITCH ASSEMBLY BYPASSED Connect a fused jumper wire between: Lead 1 Lead 2 Pin Circuit Pin Circuit C2114-3 CMP18 (GN/BN) - Ground Does the disable function operate? Yes : INSTALL a active park assist switch. REFER to «ACTIVE PARK ASSIST»(ref-569602) . No : GO to O7.
  7. O7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all the PAM connectors. Scheme 14: Minimum Detectable Object Locations

Note. The object used in this system check can be fabricated from 9 cm O.D. (3 in I.D) plastic pipe 100 cm (39 in) in length (available as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe, or similar from a hardware or plumbing supply).

Note. The following system check should be carried out with the vehicle on a level surface. The specified object locations are approximate, not absolute.

Note. The parking aid system defaults to on when the ignition key is cycled from OFF to ON.

Note. The scan tool may be used to monitor distance PIDs. The distance PIDs read between 0 and 255 cm (0 and 8.4 ft) on a correctly functioning system.

  1. Turn the ignition to ON, engine OFF.
  2. Set the parking brake on.
  3. Place the gearshift in REVERSE (R).
  4. Verify that the parking aid system detects the specified object when placed within the 5 specified locations (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5). The pipe should be inside of these locations. The speaker should beep slowly when objects are detected on the outer edges of the detection zone, and increase as the object is moved closer to the vehicle. When the object is within 46 cm (18 in) of the rear bumper, the tone should be on continuously. If the parking aid system does not detect objects above, refer to «PARKING AID»(ref-569603-S05479319082013072700000) .

Scheme 15: Elevation System Check
  1. NOTE: The following system check should be carried out with the vehicle on a 3.0 m wide by 4.5 m deep (10 ft wide by 15 ft deep) smooth concrete surface, free of all obstacles and noise from fan and pneumatic tools. Turn the ignition to the ON position, engine off.
  2. Set the parking brake.
  3. Place the gearshift in REVERSE (R).
  4. NOTE: No audible warning tones should be heard. If audible warning tones are heard, check to make sure the bumper is installed correctly and not tilted downward so that the sensor is pointing towards the ground. Verify that no audible warning tones are heard. If the audible warning tone is heard, refer to «PARKING AID»(ref-569603-S05479319082013072700000) .
