  1. Disable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Discharge A/C system, using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Remove brace between shock towers. Remove air intake duct. Remove air cleaner assembly. Drain engine coolant.
  2. Relieve fuel system pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-98439-S29308250822001052300000) . Disconnect radiator hoses at water crossover. Remove engine cover. Remove radiator upper cover. Remove upper radiator hoses from engine.
  3. Disconnect forward discriminating sensor, and set aside. Remove both cooling fans. Remove transmission cooler lines from radiator. Disconnect cruise control servo connections. Remove throttle and cruise control cables from throttle body. Remove shift cable from manual shift lever and bracket. Remove vacuum hose from brake booster.
  4. Disconnect fuel inlet and return lines using Fuel Line Disconnector (J-37088-A). Disconnect hoses from coolant reservoir. Remove coolant reservoir. Remove negative battery cable from left cylinder head. Remove positive battery cable from battery and body retainer. Remove PCM case and PCM. Remove right sound insulator.
  5. Working underneath dash, disconnect vacuum lines and engine wiring under instrument panel, wiring harness at PCM, and pull harness through cowl. Disconnect wiring and vacuum connections as needed to allow removal. Remove both hoses from power steering cooler.
  6. Raise and support vehicle. Remove both wheels. Separate both axles from steering knuckle. Remove back O2 sensor heat shield and connector. Disconnect exhaust hangers and remove catalytic converter. Disconnect steering coupler. Disconnect fuel lines from transaxle.
  7. Remove battery lead from generator. Remove A/C manifold from compressor and ABS modulator from frame. Position Support Table (J-38580) under frame and lower vehicle onto table. Remove 6 frame-to-body bolts. Raise body off powertrain.
  8. Remove coolant crossover pipe from engine. Remove park/neutral switch. Remove engine wire harness. Remove "Y" pipe. Remove drive belt. Remove power steering pump and hoses. Remove generator and bracket. Remove A/C compressor and bracket. Remove idler pulley. Remove engine to transmission brace. Attach engine lift to engine. Remove engine mount and bracket. Remove exhaust manifold. Remove flywheel inspection cover. Remove torque converter. Remove bell housing to engine bolts. Remove engine from transmission and frame assembly. Remove crossunder pipe.
