Engine can be identified by eighth character of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on a metal pad located on top of dash, near left end of windshield. If eighth character of VIN is "Y" (RPO Code LD8) engine is a 4.6L V8. If the eighth character is a "9" (RPO Code L37), engine is a 4.6L V8 Northstar. If tenth character of VIN is "Y", vehicle is a 2000 model year. If tenth character of VIN is "1", vehicle is a 2001 model year.
