ATF PAN, ATF STRAINER AND MECHATRONIC OVERVIEW

CAUTIONThere is a risk of damaging the transmission. Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transmission or if the ATF pan has been removed.

Note. Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or faulty. Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS . General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION . Coat O-rings and seals with ATF. Other types of lubrication lead to faults in the transmission hydraulics.

TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION AND SEQUENCE

Note. Replaced the bolts for the ATF pan.

Tighten the bolts in three steps in the sequence shown

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm in the following sequence: -1 to 19-.

Note. Bolts -18- and -19- are shorter. Bolt -18- attaches the transmission output speed sensor to the transmission housing. Bolt -19- attaches the Mechatronic connector to the transmission housing.

ATF Oil Pan - Tightening Specification and Sequence

Note. Replaced the bolts for the ATF pan.

Tighten the bolts in three steps in the sequence shown

Mechatronic, Tightening Specification and Sequence

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm in the following sequence: -1 to 19-.

  2. Engine/Transmission Jack V.A.G 1383 A
  3. Transmission Support T10337

Removing

Note. Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS . General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

Remove the noise insulation -1- and -2-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the subframe crossbrace. Refer to Removal and Installation

Mount the T10337 on the V.A.G 1383 A and attach it to the bottom of the transmission.

Raise the transmission slightly.

WARNINGThere is the risk of an accident. The V.A.G 1383 A may only be used during assembly and must not sit unsupervised under the vehicle.

Remove the transmission support with the rear transmission mount. Refer to TRANSMISSION SUPPORT WITH TRANSMISSION MOUNT .

Drain the ATF -arrow-. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .

Remove the bolts from the ATF pan in the following sequence: -12 through 1-.

Remove the ATF oil pan.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following

Note. Replaced the bolts and the gasket for the ATF pan. With high mileage vehicles, replace the ATF strainer when the ATF pan is removed. Refer to ATF FILTER . Otherwise the ATF strainer must be replaced only if it is damaged.

Clean both magnets -arrows-. Make sure the magnets completely contact the depressions in the ATF filter.

Clean the sealing surface from all sealant residue.

Make sure the ATF filter is mounted correctly on the Mechatronic otherwise it will not be possible to mount the ATF pan so that it contacts the surface completely.

  1. The collar -1- on the ATF filter must be installed all the way into the opening -2- in the Mechatronic.
  2. The mount -4- on the back must fit into the bolt -3- on the Mechatronic.

3 Tighten the T40199 hand-tight as illustrated.

Mount the ATF pan with the new gasket on the transmission over the T40199.

Install the bolts -1 through 4- by hand until the bolt heads make contact.

Remove the T40199 and tighten the bolts in the specified tightening sequence TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION AND SEQUENCE .

Install the subframe crossbrace. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the transmission mount. Refer to TRANSMISSION MOUNT .

Install tunnel crossmember. Refer to TUNNEL CROSSMEMBER .

Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .

Install the noise insulation -1- and -2-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

ATF FILTER

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782

Removing

Note. Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS . General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION .

Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Place the V.A.G 1782 under the transmission.

Carefully pull the ATF filter downward and off the Mechatronic.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following

Mount the O-ring -2- on the ATF filter -1-.

Clean both magnets -arrows-. Make sure the magnets completely contact the depressions in the ATF filter.

Mount the ATF filter on the Mechatronic.

  1. The collar -1- on the ATF filter must be installed all the way into the opening -2- in the Mechatronic.
  2. The mount -4- on the back must fit into the bolt -3- on the Mechatronic.

Install the ATF pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .

MECHATRONIC UNIT

Removing

  1. Transmission installed.

Note. Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Refer to CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS . General repair instructions, refer to REPAIR INFORMATION . Always replace the Mechatronic unit if it is dirty or defective.

CAUTIONThere is a risk of damaging the transmission. Do not start the engine if there is no ATF in the transmission and if the Mechatronic is removed.

Move the selector lever into P.

Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Remove the ATF filter. Refer to ATF FILTER .

CAUTIONThere is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge. Always discharge the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist. Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

Disconnect the connector on transmission by rotating screw connections counter-clockwise -arrow-.

Remove the bolt -1-.

Turn the connector housing -2- counter-clockwise -arrow- and remove it.

Remove the bolts in the following sequence: -19 to 1-.

CAUTIONRisk of causing damage to the Mechatronic. Only the bolts with a T40 TORX® bolt head may be loosened. If other bolts are loosened, this may affect the function of the Mechatronic unit or it may come apart.

Remove the Mechatronic from the transmission.

CAUTIONDanger of damaging the sensor on the back side of the Mechatronic. Lay the Mechatronic with the bolt head side facing down only.

Installing

  1. Tightening specifications, refer to «ATF PAN, ATF STRAINER AND MECHATRONIC OVERVIEW»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/automatic-trans/#gears-hydraulic-controls-automatic-transmission-0bk-awd-avant__atf-pan-atf-strainer-and-mechatronic) .

Note. Replace the Mechatronic O-rings and bolts.

Install new O-rings -1- and -3- into the grooves in the oil pipes.

Insert the ATF pipe -2- into the Mechatronic.

Check the oil pipes for damage and make sure they fit securely inside the Mechatronic.

Remove the sealing sleeve using the T10271 and install a new sleeve.

Install the four T40199 hand-tight, as illustrated.

Note. The T40199 prevent the Mechatronic from tilting when it is being installed. Also, the oil pipes on the back of the Mechatronic will not get damaged. The spring clip on the back of the Mechatronic prevents the Mechatronic from being mounted flush on the transmission housing. It is recommended to have a second technician help when installing the Mechatronic.

Carefully mount the Mechatronic on the transmission housing.

  1. The selector lever -A- must fit into the bracket -C- for the multifunction transmission range switch -F125- -arrow 1-, move the bracket -C- if necessary.
  2. The selector lever -A- must fit into the selector slide -B- -arrow 2-. Move the selector slide -B- if necessary.

Install the bolts -1 through 4- by hand until the bolt heads make contact.

Remove the four T40199.

Tighten the bolts on the Mechatronic in the specified tightening sequence MECHATRONIC, TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION AND SEQUENCE .

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following

Make sure the connector locks and is secure.

Install the ATF filter. Refer to ATF FILTER .

Install the ATF pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .

SELECTOR LEVER SHAFT SEAL

  1. Pry Lever - Rmv Outside Mirror 80 - 200

Procedure

Move the nuts -arrows- and front muffler. Refer to [For Eingine(s) CAEB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the ATF oil pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Remove the ATF filter. Refer to ATF FILTER .

Remove the Mechatronic unit. Refer to MECHATRONIC UNIT .

Remove the ball socket -1- on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the 80 - 200.

Note. Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Remove the spring pin -2- on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

Remove the selector lever and shaft -arrow-.

Pry out the shaft seal using a small screwdriver.

Apply ATF to the circumference and the space between the sealing lips of the new shaft seal.

  1. Installed position: Open side of shaft seal faces transmission.

Mount the shaft seal on the transmission housing and push it in all the way using a suitable socket -arrow-.

Install the selector lever and shaft.

Note. If the actuator rod for the locking latch moves too far to the rear, then it can be pulled forward -arrow 2- while pushing the locking latch at the same time -arrow 1-.

Install the spring pin -2- flush on the shaft for the selector lever using a pin punch -1-.

Install Mechatronic unit. Refer to MECHATRONIC UNIT .

Install the ATF filter. Refer to ATF FILTER .

Install the ATF pan. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID OIL PAN .

Install the front muffler. Refer to [For Eingine(s) CAEB] Removal and Installation .

Fill the ATF. Refer to ATF, DRAINING OR FILLING AFTER REPAIR .
