CLEAN WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Always clean the connection locations and the area around them before loosening.
  2. Clean the transmission and transmission components using cleaning solution -D 009 401 04-.
  3. Use lint-free cloths when cleaning, for example, the "WYPALL X70/WORKHORSE" cloth made by Kimberly-Clark Professional.
  4. Seal all open lines and connections immediately with clean plugs or caps from the engine bung set VAS 6122.
  5. Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them. Use foil or lint-free cloths.
  6. Carefully cover or plug unpacked components if repairs cannot be performed immediately.
  7. Only install clean components: Remove the replacement parts from their packaging just prior to installing them.
  8. Protect the disconnected connectors from dirt and moisture and only connect when they are dry.

CONTACT CORROSION

Contact corrosion can occur if non-approved fasteners are used such as bolts, nuts, washers, etc.

For this reason, only connecting elements with a special surface coating are installed.

In addition, rubber or plastic parts and adhesive are made of materials that do not conduct electricity.

If you are not sure about the suitability of parts, install new parts.

Note. Original replacement parts are recommended because they have been tested. It is recommended to use Audi accessories. Damage resulting from contact corrosion is not covered by the warranty.

The "Multitronic 0AW, FWD transmission" works the same way as the Continuously Variable Transmission Multitronic 01J. Additional information about the function of this transmission 951103 Variable Automatic Transmission Multitronic 01J: Design and Function.

Note. The continuously variable automatic transmission multitronic 0AW is also called "Continuously Variable Transmission", or "CVT" for short.

  7. Threaded holes into which self-locking bolts or bolts coated with locking fluid are screwed, must be cleaned (for example tap). Otherwise there is a risk that the bolts will shear the next time they are removed.

Circlips, Snap Rings

  1. Do not overstretch the circlips.
  2. Replace damaged or stretched circlips.
  3. The circlips must fit completely inside the groove.

Bearings

  1. Install needle bearings with lettered side (thicker metal) racing the fitting tool.
  2. Insert bearing with axle oil or ATF, depending on installation location.
  3. Do not interchange the outer or inner races of bearings of the same size.
  4. Always replace the tapered roller bearings on one shaft together and use new bearings from a single manufacturer.

Adjusting Shims

  1. Measure the adjusting shims at several locations with a micrometer. Different shim thicknesses make it possible to select the required thickness precisely; install 2 shims if necessary.
  2. Check for burrs and damage. Only install perfect shims.

TEST DRIVES WITH THE USE OF TEST AND MEASURING DEVICES

If testing equipment must be used during a road test, observe the following

WARNINGDistraction and testing equipment that is not secured properly can cause accidents. The passenger airbag could pose a risk if it deploys in a collision. Operating testing equipment while driving causes it to shift position. There is an increased risk of injury due to unsecured testing equipment. Always secure testing equipment on the rear seat using a strap and have a second person in the rear seat operate it.

WORK ON THE VEHICLE

Observe the following to avoid personal injury and vehicle damage

WARNINGThere is a risk of injury and accident from accidentally engaging a gear when the engine is running. Before work is done when the engine is running, place the selector lever in the "P " position and press the parking brake button to engage the electro-mechanical parking brake.

To prevent personal injury and damage or destruction of electrical and electronic components, observe the following

LubricantDifferent axle oils for Multitronic 0AW Note the allocation of the axle oils according to the transmission code letters.
CAUTIONThere is a risk of damaging the transmission. After roughly September 2008, a new gear oil will be used in the production of "multitronic 0AW FWD" transmissions. These transmissions have a filler plug with inner-Torx and also have new transmission code letters. For transmissions from before the change, the previous gear oil is used. These transmissions have a filler plug with an inner hex socket. Do not mix the axles oil, not even in small quantities. This will cause the sealing rings to leak. Note the allocation of gear oils and the filler plugs for the transmission code letters. Only axle oil for "multitronic 0AW" which can be obtained as a replacement part must be used in front final drive.
